Top Palin aide resigns

A top Palin aide stepped down Wednesday.
A top Palin aide stepped down Wednesday.

Washington (CNN) - Sarah Palin's spokeswoman Meg Stapleton, a close adviser to the former Alaska governor who developed a rocky relationship with other Republicans and members of the media, has resigned, two sources close to Palin confirmed Wednesday to CNN.

Stapleton, a spokesperson for the former governor since 2006, cited the need to spend more time with her husband and young daughter. In a statement first reported by Politico, Stapleton explained that serving Palin "has been an honor" but said it is time to "refocus my priorities."

But ever since Palin was suddenly elevated to the national stage in August 2008, Palin insiders, members of Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign and other Republicans sympathetic to the former governor have grumbled privately about Stapleton's ability to handle the increasingly monumental task of advising Palin, a global political celebrity whose every word is dissected and analyzed by pundits, celebrity magazines and the blogosphere.

Members of the political press corps have also long been frustrated with Stapleton, who was the primary conduit between Palin and members of the media since the end of the 2008 presidential race, but rarely responded to phone calls or e-mails. When Stapleton did, they were often terse or combative.

She and Palin had previously spoken about resigning, but Stapleton informed SarahPAC staffers of her decision by e-mail last week.

"Earlier this week, I handed Governor Palin my resignation, effective the end of this month," the e-mail said. "While I had hoped to work together on so many more projects, time with my precious 2-year-old has been further minimized with the whirlwind commitments of all things Palin. I have done my best to scale back, but Isabella is now resorting to hiding my BlackBerry, and she shouldn't grow up begging for a mother to start acting like a mother."

There are no immediate plans to hire a replacement for Stapleton, a source close to the Palin family told CNN. The source noted that the family, which takes pride in their Alaskan identity, are comfortable speaking in their own voice.

UPDATE: Fred Malek, an influential GOP fundraiser and adviser to Palin, e-mailed to compliment Stapleton on her service.

"Any professional has to be judged by success, and by any measure, Team Palin has been an enormous success," Malek told CNN. "As Governor Palin's principle aide during this awesome rise, she has been a one woman  band and deserves much credit and admiration."

Ok, fair enough...no need for political bashing on this one...just let her go, no matter what you thought of her. Give her a pass to the exit.

Let Sarah speak with her own voice.

After all – why just have everyone just think you are a fool –
when you can open your mouth and erase all doubt.

I don't know what the real reason is but i do know that spending more time with her family is a lie. That's the generic excuse for something else.

That Palin and her trite, shallow observations can even be described as a global political celebrity should tell you much about the sad the state of today's global political celebrity-dom.

Why did a FoxEtertainment Spokes Model need a Political Aide? Palin has been out off office for months after all.

I am so glad I was not drinking anything at the time I read this cause it made me laugh so hard. Global political celebrity indeed. Not someone you could actually vote for to represent you in any meaningful way. Her adviser finally saw what the rest of the globe has already seen, Sarah is a phoney gold digging dingbat.

"Isabella is now resorting to hiding my BlackBerry, and she shouldn't grow up begging for a mother to start acting like a mother."

Choose the correct observation below implicit in this statement.

    1. Stapleton does not want Isabella to grow up to be a Bristol and desires her own grandchildren to be legitimate.

2 Stapleton just slammed Bailin' Palin's lack of maternal skills.

    3. All of the above.

Now Sarah Pain will have to go out and hire someone who will help her look smart. A task near impossible due to her complete ignorance. How can you be critical of Meg leaving? As the old saying goes you can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear. Meg is frustrated with the stupid things Sarah Pain says and does and I doubt it will ever change no matter who the Pain hires to replace her.

What I can't figure out is, why the hell would a private citizen (Sarah Palin) need a spokesperson? This should have happened around June 30, 2009, when she quit as governeor. It must be extremely taxing to put together coherent Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace posts on your own, but holy smokes!!!

Cut and run while you can-surely Sarah will start blaming those around her for her failure to be considerd the top GOP candidate for 2012. It is increasingly obvious that she can't be anything more than a devisive, uninformed, hippocritical , too far to the right wannabe candidate for anything that keeps her front and center. Does anybody out there really think she writes her own twitter/facebook comments?? I sincerely doubt it.

Ahhh, the irony. Didn't Former Gov. Palin herself resign to spend more time with her family (and amidst those pesky ethics investigations)?

I'm sorry, I don't mean to add to the current political snarkiness. I really don't. But this was just too good to pass up.

Blame it on McCain's campaign staff, blame it on the media, now blame it on Stapleton who hogged tied Palin down and wrote the notes in her hand while somebody else pulled the puppet strings each time Palin opens her mouth. But each time the finger keeps pointing back at Palin, she's passed around enough blame and lies for every person in America.
