First on the Ticker: Palin to headline annual NRA meeting

Washington (CNN) – Sarah Palin will headline the National Rifle Association's annual meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina in May, the gun rights group told CNN on Thursday.

Her May 14 appearance at the Charlotte Convention Center will offer Palin, a hunter and fierce advocate of gun rights, an opportunity to appeal to one of the conservative movement's most prominent interest groups.

"Governor Palin is one of the most requested speakers in America today," Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's executive director, told CNN in a statement. "She's an outdoorsman, hunter and a steadfast supporter of our Second Amendment freedom. We are pleased to have a fellow NRA member speak at our 139th annual meeting in Charlotte this May."

If the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee is indeed considering a White House bid in 2012, then the visit will also come with a not insignificant perk: the Charlotte media market spills over into heavily-Republican parts of South Carolina, a crucial early primary state.

It is one thing to own a gun. It is another to have guns thata can't be used for hunting, which are guns that are used to commit crimes

New Headline!!! "Palin To Headline Annual Redneck Meeting"

Palin is nothing more than a publicity seeking, money hungry idiot. And her supporters are just as ignorant and simple minded as she is.

    She's a joke!

Instead of bashing Sarah Palin, we should be ending the liberal doctrine of giving everyone who doesn't work and isn't a citizen free healthcare, free tuition, and welfare. Liberals do this to make themselves "seem nice" and get votes. What they are really doing is hurting their supporters because these people cannot fend for themselves and they are becoming too reliant on a government that will continue to go broke with its constant handouts.

The Democrats will take away your guns, she should be able to fit that all on one hand. Also how much are they going to pay her to say this BS?

  7. OBAMA - One Big Ass Mistake America!

This is great news. America needs a positive, upbeat individual who knows what she's doing. Palin may not have the experience that John McCain has but she has enough to do the job and fix America.

Now that charlton heston's dead they need a new shill to show up in places that just suffered a mass shooting, waving their guns around, and whining and crying about how "libruls" want to take their guns! I've got news for the NRA: "well-armed" and "liberal" AREN'T mutually exclusive terms. That being said, there should be certain criteria in place prior to obtaining any firearm that wasn't available when the U.S. Constitution was written. Start with an IQ test. If you don't score 120 or higher, no gun for you! That would disqualify dim bulb barbie and the majority of her followers. Secondly, a psychological evaluation should be administered. Anyone who sees those with a different political ideolgy as "the enemy" is disqualified. That would be pretty much everyone else on the right. Problem solved!

Apparently Mr. LaPierre is not aware that she is an ex-governor... one who quit her position and doesn't have a chance in hell of getting the whitehouse in 2012. If he wants her... he can have her, and by all means, keep her.

Mrs. Palin and the NRA.....please explain your position to those whose children who got seroiusly injured by a gun toting man in Denver school this week or to a parent whose son or daughter gets killed by a gun shot.
We, Americans, should be extremely proud that we are close to #1 for the number of deaths by gun violence. Hooray! NOT, this is tragic and barbaric!!!

Won't help her in Charlotte. Charlotte is a city that McCain/Palin shunned in 2008. The city voted for President Obama. The long term Republican Mayor of Charlotte was running for governor and the city voted for The Democrat Beverly Perdue. There are a few tea baggers that ran for local office but they lost. Charlotte is not one of your typical southern cities and the population is greater than Alaska. She wil probably get the S. C. people and some rural NC people, but forget about a progressive city like Charlotte.

Let me guess, she'll go up there, spew a few snarky platitudes, and collect a big fat paycheck. Sigh. How can people not be getting tired of this vapid schtick?

I read an article yesterday that had the best description of Palin I have seen so far: "The neo-cons' beloved emissary to the gullible." So true...

I would guess that she can shoot off her mouth as well as she can shoot a gun. It isn't a surprise that she would be there because she can do both. I would be willing to believe that she'll be a real blast there. If she is really going to make her own run in 2012, then she needs to be of a bigger caliber in terms of her knowledge.
