Biden's open mic moment

(CNN) – The burdens of the presidency have been well documented, but perhaps it's not so hard being the No. 2.

At least that's what Vice President Joe Biden suggested to Republican Rep. Eric Cantor at Thursday's bipartisan health care summit.

Cameras picked up an impromptu discussion between Biden and the House minority whip shortly before the afternoon session began:

Biden: How you doing Eric?
Cantor: Not bad Mr. Vice President
Biden: Good, doing alright. It's easy being Vice President believe me.
Cantor: It's like being a grandparent and not the parent.
Biden: Yeah that's it.

Jay Carney, Biden's communications director, said the vice president was "obviously joking, as any review of his schedule and responsibilities would make abundantly clear."

Politico first reported the exchange.

Another Biden gaff? Will it ever end? Probably the worst choice for a VP in history. Obama has made a massive mistake in judgment on this guy.

Obviously joking...but his typical gaffe came when he talked about how he's learned that it's impossible to "know what the people want". Hilllarrrioussss!! He's talking to REPRESENTATIVES of PEOPLE! That's why there are polls and town hall meetings.
He and Obama and the Dems are simply ignoring what the people want.
I guess it would be funnier if the situation wasn't so serious.

He has ALMOST as much sense as our so called Prez. I think both of them together have about 1/2 a brain cell.

Please. It was obviously sarcasm. No wonder the right wing droogies defend Rush Limbaugh as a 'satirist' – they obviously don't know what it is.

No hyperventilation here...I actually made time to watch some of the meeting. It's clear the American people want those we hired to move on to more critical issues. And it's clear the left doesn't want to listen. If this health care deal passes as has been written, it will be an ALMOST dictatorial move.
This is not a neighborhood watch that Obama is forming. This not an achievement he should accomplish just to hang his hat on. This is HUGE!
AND MOST AMERICANS DON'T WANT IT!!!..okay, a little hyperventilation there.

Should Biden have been as "eloquent" as his predecessor? Who can forget Cheney's colorful, four-letter-word you remark? No gaffs there, huh? CHECK, PLEASE???

If my memory serves me correct, many repubs also voted for Obama/Biden. Look at the red states they won. It was Cantor that said being vice president was like being a grandfather not the father. The good thing about this conversation is that 2 lawmakers of opposing sides had a polite conversation with each other as oppoosed to all the partisan bickering that went on.

    Obviously a joke by Biden.

But – had this comment be made by, say, Cheney – or, for example, Palin – would the Democratic party be so silent?

By the way – couldn't help but notice the near desert of news articles on the momentous "summit" yesterday. It's literally not anywhere on CNN's homepage at the moment. That's a little extraordinary, considering the subject matter. Reason?
