Boehner imagines being Speaker

John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid all answered questions posed by YouTube users Friday.
John Boehner, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid all answered questions posed by YouTube users Friday.

Washington (CNN) - In his speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference last week, House Minority Leader John Boehner asked the crowd to imagine what Congress would look like if he became Speaker of the House - a prospect that has become more likely as the political environment sours for Democrats.

A confident-sounding Boehner continued to float that possibility on Thursday after the bipartisan health care summit with President Obama in a post-meeting question and answer session with YouTube users. Video of his chat which was posted Friday morning.

"If I become Speaker of the House, we are going to run the House differently, different from the current majority and from past Republican ones," he promised, answering a question from a YouTube user who demanded that legislators read lengthy bills before voting on them.

"And if I become Speaker there will be a 72 hour reading period before any bill is brought to the floor," the Ohio Republican added, repeating a pledge he made at CPAC.

"We don't need these really big bills," he said. "We can keep these bills smaller, more targeted, so that people actually can read them and understand what they are voting on before they come to the floor."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also sat down for interviews with YouTube users after the health care summit.

"If I become Speaker of the House, we are going to run the House differently...

Sounds like you are advocating for change, John Boehner.

And haven't Republicans been ridiculing promises of change lately?

After watching the health care summit yesterday, it became abundantly clear to me that Reid, McConnel, Boehner and Cantor need the boot. They are ones causing the partisan divide in Washington. I hope they get replaced with Durbin, Colburn, and Paul Ryan in the November elections

And if I become President I will give every citizen a million dollars and they won't have to pay any taxes.
Fellow Americans, when are we going to stop believng these professional politicians who have been in Congress forever and have done virtually nothing? Yes, they will say anything to get elected, but talk is cheap. Look at their record.

The Republicans will win the next election and boot Dems out of power in the House.

I just hope that whomever they choose to become speaker will at least take Paul Ryan's proposals regarding deficit reduction seriously.

Mr. Boehner is on record as not supporting Ryan's ideas.

    Strike one, John.

Beano likes to imagine himself as Speaker of the House. (He may also like to imagine himself wearing pink taffeta, for all I know.)

I like to imagine him unemployed.

Yeah, just what we need, another corporate stooge with too much power. You think things are bad now? Just put the republicans back in charge and bend over for your corporate overlords. This nation is doomed. Seriously, enjoy the rapid decline of the United States of Amerika, Inc. while it lasts, consumerbots. Have a nice day!

P.S. Ayn Rand was an idiot.

We won't know if Boehner would follow through on his promises as Speaker unless he gets a chance. We do know Pelosi has not kept her's and is a lier. She lied in the summit yesterday when Boehner said the bill would pay for abortions. She responded, looking in Boehner's direction, and said that was not true and wanted to make sure the TV audience new that. Maybe she should take that up with many of the her Democrat members in the House who are upset that the Senate version and Obama's proposal funds abortins. I've seen any number of Democrats on TV who are on both sides of the issue who say it is a big problem within the Democrat ranks.

Wow... 72 hours to read the bill... I wonder will anyone actually use the 72 hours to READ the bills or will they use that time to find more bipartisan pork to add to it?

6 hours in a summit and Boner and company couldn't come up with one single new idea.

The goverment is broken, and his party is the reason why. Don't think for a moment we all don't know it.

I figured that John Boehner would like to be speaker-it is obvious his disdain for Nancy Pelosi.......Boehner is not fit to be a dog catcher-let alone the speaker..I hope that his constituients will vote his butt out of office-he is too polarizing & arrogant!! Let him go back to his "tanning bed"!!!!!

"If I become speaker, I will continue to mis-inform and lie to the electorate and make really stupid assertions like, 'America has the best health care system in the world,' even while 45,000 Americans die each year because of our corrupt, Republican-supported health care system."

NO I can't imagine you as speaker of the House – it is too horrifying. You are the male version of Nancy Pelosi, Mr. SprayTan, and we don't need anymore fake idiots running our Congrssional bodies. Go meet Larry Craig in a bathroom and let the US get back to being a country again.
