White House social secretary to step down

White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers will step down.
White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers will step down.

Washington (CNN) - Desiree Rogers, the White House social secretary, plans to step down, three sources familiar with the situation told CNN Friday.

Her office came under scrutiny after a couple who lacked an invitation showed up at President Barack Obama's first state dinner.

Officials with the White House and the administration, as well as a colleague of Rogers, told CNN of her plans to leave.

UPDATE: In an e-mail to CNN's Suzanne Malveaux, Rogers said she is headed back to the private sector.

"It has been incredible setting the foundation for the WH for this historical Presidency," she wrote.

Read President Obama's statement after the jump.

Statement from the President and the First Lady on Desiree Rogers

“We are enormously grateful to Desiree Rogers for the terrific job she’s done as the White House Social Secretary. When she took this position, we asked Desiree to help make sure that the White House truly is the People’s House, and she did that by welcoming scores of everyday Americans through its doors, from wounded warriors to local schoolchildren to NASCAR drivers. She organized hundreds of fun and creative events during her time here, and we will miss her. We thank her again for her service and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

– CNN's Ed Henry and John King contributed to this report

Fact check- tripling debt? that is what equals obama. Stick to the "Facts". Left wing obamabots don't like actually talking about policy, they just call names. Get a job, I'm sick of supporting the lazy and unwilling.

If anyone is incompetent it's Sarah Palin. The woman is so stupid it's ridiculous. She doesn't even know who the founding fathers are. And her comment about not wanting a law professor in the White House is insane. Twenty six presidents were formers lawyers.

Watch out America, one of the three top racist in the country will be yelling foul on this issue. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and Barrack Hussein Obama, Jr. are the leading racist in the country, and they will quickly jump on the race card every chance that they get. Forget the facts, just look to the skin color. This hope and change thing isn't working out so hot for this one term muslim prez. What a shame.............

No, you are out of work because you lack job skills and an education. Quit blaming others for your deficiencies.

this is what happens when you bring inner-city thug cronyism into the White House...Obama's a street activist thug at best; and Rodgers' level of expertise might be to organize the barbecue chicken grilling at a church picnic.....anything above that level...well, their perfomance speaks for itself.

    ------------------------------
For all of you that keep asking why racism is in the conversation, take a look at what one of your own wrote. This is just one, there are MANY more... if you don't believe me, listen to Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity or the king of ridiculous, Glenn Beck.

So what? If this were Bush's wife's secretary no one would give this story the time of day. But anything about Obama, and it's suddeny a big deal and has to be something nefarious, sinister, bad. Leave them alone you haters. People come and go in administrations all the time. You are so petty, frightened, fearful and full of paranoid lies constantly fed to you by the Fox Noise Channel and the other hateful talking heads like Limbaugh, Savage, Levin, etc. that you can't think straight and want to believe all evil things about our President. You people are stupid and sick in the head. Obama is trying to move this Country forward and the Republicans want it to go backwards.

I can respect YOUR feelings and thoughts on this President. Obviously, you were not who I was addressing in my post. Only put the shoe on if it fits. In this case it doesn't. My anger stems from the OBVIOUS racism in some of the posts here (qualified to fry chicken). If you don't see it, or affect it by it no problem. However I do and am.

Funny how many Dims try to blame Republicans for everything. We had nothing to do with your WH parties. And the guests that "broke in" were the ones who wanted to be your friends – hardly Republicans. If you're incompetent you can't keep blaming it on George Bush for crying out loud!

Some of the comments I see here are kind of disturbing to say the least; these are supposed to be adults communicating their opinion? If that is the case, then we need serious education reform in this country; I'm just speaking my opinion on that. Here is my opinion on another issue; Evolution:
In biology, evolution is genetic changes in populations of organisms over successive generations.[1] When a population splits into smaller groups, these groups evolve independently and develop into new species. Anatomical similarities, geographical distribution of similar species and the fossil record indicate that all forms of life have their origin in a common ancestor through a long series of these divergence events, stretching back in a tree of life that has grown over the 3,500 million years of life on Earth.

Evolution is the product of two opposing forces: processes that constantly introduce variation in traits, and processes that make particular variants become more common or rare. A trait is a particular characteristic such as eye color, height, or a behavior that is expressed when an organism's genes interact with its environment. Genes vary within populations, so organisms show heritable differences (variation) in their traits. The main cause of variation is mutation, which changes the sequence of a gene. Altered genes are then inherited by offspring. There can sometimes also be transfer of genes between species.

Two main processes cause variants to become more common or rare in a population. One is natural selection, which causes traits that aid survival and reproduction to become more common, and traits that hinder survival and reproduction to become more rare.Natural selection occurs because only a few individuals in each generation will survive, since resources are limited and organisms produce many more offspring than their environment can support. Over many generations mutations produce successive, small, random changes in traits, which are then filtered by natural selection and the beneficial changes retained. This adjusts traits so they become suited to an organism's environment: these adjustments are called adaptations. Not every trait, however, is an adaptation. Another cause of evolution is genetic drift, an independent process that produces entirely random changes in how common traits are in a population. Genetic drift comes from the role that chance plays in whether a trait will be passed on to the next generation.
We have to start thinking in a logical manner for every situation that comes to us; scientifically, economically, cultural, historical, domestically, psychological, legal, political, historical, and in a moral/ personal sense as well. If we followed logic for our situations, we would be a lot better off; that is how I percieve the world.

Due to her imcompetence doing assigned her duties, she needed to
be let go a long time ago. In stead of paying attention to what her
duties were she was always out on a photo-op adventure. She might
be a good person but sure didn't follow her job description. She was
a federal employee and failed in her job so deserved to be let go.

mmm@had to play the race card as a cover for the incompetence of this bunch of clowns. I am sure some of you libertards could also find some way to blame it on Bush, Hannity, Limbaugh and Fox News too. Liberals can never take personal responsiblitlity for their actions, they have to blame someone or something else. It is so sickening.

"Why is it that as soon as someone criticizes anyone from this administration, they are deemed haters and racists."

While generalizing leads to misapplication of the label on some who don't deserve it, one would think you'd be more concerned with asking "what is my party doing to engender this response?" and then FIXING IT, rather than inventing logical mobius strips to run circles in with your "reverse racism" nonsense.

“Robin” is just repeating an Internet rumor that the Obamas have more staff than any other president in history.

Do a quick online search and you'll soon find that, according to Anita McBride, Laura Bush's former Chief of Staff, Mrs. Bush had between 24 and 26 staffers working for her by the end of her husband's second term in office.

By contrast, Mrs. Obama has about 22.

The Associated Press has also reported that several other First Ladies had larger numbers of personnel working for them than Michelle Obama does.

It really helps if you actually think before you post ...

    Racist! Blah! Blah! Blah! Racist!
Those of you who call others racist just because we disagree with a black President are intellectually shallow. I also disagree with every white male that sides with the black President's agenda on the economy and healthcare.
I have truly experienced racism...and seen racists try to humiliate my father. Take it from me...the race-card is SO TIRED already.
