Pelosi on midterms: 'We're fighting for every seat'

Washington (CNN) – Even as her Republican counterpart continues to openly discuss replacing her, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says House Democrats are not yielding any ground when it comes to November’s midterm elections.

“The Democrats will retain the majority in the House of Representatives,” Pelosi says in an interview set to air Sunday on CNN’s State of the Union.

Pelosi adds, “I'm not yielding one grain of sand, we're fighting for every seat.”

The California Democrat told CNN Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley that in campaigning for November’s elections Democrats need to be aggressive in explaining to the public everything the party has done.

“So Democrats are ready. We're confident of that - what we have done for the American people. We have to get out there. We've been working hard, now we have to go out. We said we were going to do certain things, we did them. Now we have to go talk about what we have done.”

With the populist anger rising over the last year about the $700 billion Wall Street bailout, an $862 billion stimulus bill that Republicans say failed to deliver the promised job creation, and Democrats’ ambitious plans for comprehensive health care reform legislation, many political observers believe Democrats will face a tough environment in the upcoming midterms later this year.

House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, has not been shy about his hopes for the midterms. Twice in roughly the last week, the leading House Republican has discussed how the chamber might operate differently if he is in charge as the next speaker.

Pelosi is spouting propaganda and trying to make everyone believe that was she is saying will happen. The only saying is "if you build it they will come". She and the Democrats have lost touch with reality. The reality is we do not want the Health Care Bill that the Senate, Congress and the President are trying so desperate to get passed. We do want Health Care Reform without the Government's greedy hands in the pot to use the money for other uses.

this is no longer about the parties, this is about the american people and who wants to represent the american people and not themselves.. if these folks want to represent us, then vote the way the people in your district expect you to.. ms pelosi lives somewhere in fantasy land...americans are no longer going to listen the bs that comes out of this womans mouth...her district keeps voting her in because they are just like her. but she is not the norm of the country..she choses to ignore the wishes of everyday americans and should be removed from the speakers position...harry reed should be removed as well...but then again he is gone anyway in nov...we want less government.. this country needs jobs, not your healthcare.. people needs jobs to pay for healthcare...the lights are on and nobody is home?????????????????

"I really like Nancy, She is smart, strong and the repubs hate her for this"

No, the "repubs" hate her because she's a socialist intent on subverting two centuries of the American character.

How about both parties lose out to independents this November. That's something I'd love to see though I'm not holding my breath.

Pelosi does not want to lose her position, becuase then she would loose all of the free liquor and expensive trips back and forth to California. She needs the bigger plane to carry her family and friends. What a poor excuse for a representative of our country.

"We said we were going to do certain things, we did them. Now we have to go talk about what we have done.”

The Democrats have done absolutely nothing but get down on their knees and beg the Republicans to let them govern. No healthcare reform. No jobs bill. No unemployment and COBRA extension. All because Democrats would rather beg deference from Republicans rather than use the power of the majority, the mandate given them by voters.
So now voters will take that power back and give it to the GOP.
Nice work, Nancy. That's really something to be proud of.

  9. Never Again

Obama funded SCHIP. Obama created the Home Mortgage Protection Program. He has fought against a huge healthcare lobby and a vengeful Republican party to protect the American people from abuses by the healthcare industry. Stay the course America. What we began in 2008 must continue in 2010. What has the RepubliKlan party ever done for you? What have they done to this country?

    For Ridgeway
Thats STRANGE. You ask how stupid the American people can be ??
Well if they vote in the Republicans again after the mess they left us , I'd have to agree with you.
People like you, who only listen to Fox,Rush ect, would like to rewrite the current past, by repeating over and over again that this economical mess began with Obama's election.
Won't work ........The voter has a longer memory than your fringe thinkers.
How did Bush say it, Fool me once, can't fool me agin ?????????

Agree with Speaker Pelosi. The Dems have done a good job so far considering the short amount of time they have been in the majority, the obstructionist Repubs they have had to contend with, and the mess they are trying to clean up.

She is right. The Republicans/blue dogs are in for a rude awakening in 2010 when they lose because of their fear/hate/obstructionist/purity ideology.

healthcare, economy, and war. it seems to me that all of these subjects were in ruin not so long, there has been improvement in a relatively short time frame. who is to take the accolades for this? truth be told there has been a total lack of accountability for the orgin of our domestic and foriegn issues, and more criticism for the fixes, how does that make sense? it is my hope that all americans know the FACTS and knows what must be done.

The Speaker of the House is going to talk about what they have done? That's not much because Republicans have oppoesed them at every turn. What Democrats need to do is unite and make the country aware of how Republicans have viturally shut our government down all for the sake of their Health Care owners. Democrats need to shine light on the lies told by Republicans all for the purpose of striking fear into the American public for their own gains. Then they must stop this spending on all the pet projects around the country and work on balancing the budget. If they can't or don't do those thigs then they can go and pack their bags.

WHY?? You don't deserve them. You wasted 2 years on waiting for bi-partisanship and you didn't get it. You and Reid are weak, if only we can get Tip O'neil back now there was some backbone for ya. You let the minority rule the house and senate even though the dems HAD a super majority you can't even get appointments through that Obama has nominated. It took only one republican to stop the unemployment emergnecy funding ONE thats it so what good is having the majority going to be? Once the whining and cries started on the right about health care y'all stopped fighting for it you took out the public option you caved to everything they wanted and still when the time came nothing happened why, because you are weak. The dems need a strong leadership and they do not have it, even Obama is so busy trying to get the right on board, he should know that will never happen they don't want him to succeed with anything.

Why do Jim Bunning (R-KY) and the Republican Party hate unemployed Americans? Remember their irresponsible actions in November when YOU have the POWER to choose your representatives. Who do you want, more of that or the party that is bringing modern health care system for all Americans? The choice is clear.

The Iraq War,We don't Torture. For two. Wake Up . If you listen to others besides Rush you might come out of that fog state you;re in .
I'll admit that both parties are nothing to be proud of, but the Dems have always given SOMETHING to the working man. The Republicans have always been for BIG BUSINESS, which would;nt be so bad if they REALLY let it trickle down here in the USA and not in some foreign countries.

Willa-PA- You do realize that the unemployment extension benefits would have already been passed by a bi-partisan vote last week in the jobs bill if DEMOCRAT Senate majority leader HARRY REID hadn't single handedly taken it out of the bill don't you? Senator Bunning wants it to be paid for out of the unspent failed stimulus bill money. Didn't your hero Obama say he wanted future bills to be paid for before implementing? The hypocrispy and ingnorance of the Obama lovers is astounding.

  24. We're fighting too

We are fighting to kick enough of the Democracts out of office to re-establish a balanced government. A government that is not controlled by a single party, one where all voters are represented, that has checks and balance to ensure issues are not rammed down the throat of Americans.

The only difference between this current administration and the past adminstration is that the pendelum has swung to the extreme left, while in the previous it was to the extreme right.

So lets kick a few of the leftists out of office, starting with Pelosi and Reid, a replace a few more of the liberal democrats with moderate republicans and moderate democrats and we will produce a government that is fiscally responsible, willingly increases individual freedoms and not interested in establishing monster goverment organizations.
