(CNN) – Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is weighing in on the California gubernatorial race, announcing Monday she is backing former eBay CEO Meg Whitman's bid for the GOP nomination.

"California is my home and there is only one person running for Governor who can lead the way toward rebuilding our state," Rice said in a statement provided by the Whitman campaign. "In my experiences in and out of government, I find the most effective leaders to be those who maintain a clear vision, mobilize diverse groups, and inspire them to work together in confronting the most pressing challenges.

Rice, the former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor under President Bush, is currently a professor of political science at Stanford University.

Whitman is battling state insurance commissioner Steve Poizner for the Republican party's nomination. A poll conducted late last month showed the former eBay chief with a 17-point over Poizner with nearly 4 in 10 Republican primary voters undecided. The primary is set for June 8.

Its not surprising to hear more racist comments from the left on here. Just because someone is African American does NOT mean they have to be a democrat.

In fact, its in the democrats interests to maintain the status quo of racial inequity in America... successful African Americans become Republicans and Conservatives.

Having Rice backing you is akin to having GW Bush back you. Ms. Whitman is assured to lose now. The problem with C. Rice is that she is a pure academician with very little common sense on matters of national importance. For example... she says she is an expert on all matters Russian, but she is an expert in book knowledge only. Has she every visited or lived in Russia for long periods of time to really understand the Russian psychie or its people's connection to their past? The answer is an absolute 'no'. Ms. Rice's work with Russia was dismal. In addition, because of her inability to transfer book knowledge to real life events the U.S. has severely suffered in Asia. Good luck with such a poor backing, Ms. Whitman.

And if this doesn't work, bribes, lies and torture will do the trick. Wink-Wink.

She read the paper "Osama Bin Laden Plans to Fly Planes Into Buildings" and never told or protected America

If Condaleeza were to change her political party and carry a 'D' after her name like Spector did, would you still think she's a nitwit and call her names? Get a life!! Think about who the candidate is, thier background and how they can help CA out of the deep, deep hole they are in. My money would be placed on a former CEO who has lead e-Bay into making mega billions of dollars. Who better toput CA back on track to climb out of their mess??

I live in CA and wouldn't vote for Meg Whitman if she were running for dog catcher. Her approach is to lead CA as if it were a business which means more tax cuts for the wealthy, increased debt, continued decimation of social programs and across the board cuts in fire/police/emergency services. CA has a dysfunctional legislature and is among a handful of states requiring 2/3 vote to pass legislation. CA needs a constitutional amendment, not a political novice attempting to buy her way in.

Former Gov. Jerry Brown has the necessary experience and leadership that CA so desparately needs.

America voted for bush twice and now it looks like it misses those days of self destruction.Americans wont be happy untill they vote against every piece of legislation that benefits them and vote for everything that caused this second depression and making the rich richer.
