Condoleezza Rice backs Whitman

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is weighing in on the California gubernatorial race.

(CNN) – Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is weighing in on the California gubernatorial race, announcing Monday she is backing former eBay CEO Meg Whitman's bid for the GOP nomination.

"California is my home and there is only one person running for Governor who can lead the way toward rebuilding our state," Rice said in a statement provided by the Whitman campaign. "In my experiences in and out of government, I find the most effective leaders to be those who maintain a clear vision, mobilize diverse groups, and inspire them to work together in confronting the most pressing challenges.

Rice, the former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor under President Bush, is currently a professor of political science at Stanford University.

Whitman is battling state insurance commissioner Steve Poizner for the Republican party's nomination. A poll conducted late last month showed the former eBay chief with a 17-point over Poizner with nearly 4 in 10 Republican primary voters undecided. The primary is set for June 8.

What in rice's resume would ever lead to the conclusion that she is "smart?" Her dissertation was roundly panned as shoddy at best. Oddly – the critique was that she started from a foregon conclusion and then cherry picked evidence to fit and ignored everyting else. Sound familiar?

She was a twit. What "smart" person would willingly become the handmaiden of dubya? Sort of like signing on to carry water for Lindsey Lohan......

We should take Rice's word for what reason? I really have trouble with these people that come out of Corporate America and claim they can lead. Well, I have to say that many of these people will fire member of the board and other people who disagree with them. That won't work in government when you are across the table with legislators that the people have elected.

I wish Condi had run against Obama, she would make a much better president than he is and I would have voted for her over McCain. So all you libs calling her names and disagreeing with her, I guess that makes you racist??

  6. It has begun-

"If I was crazy, I'd be a conservative too" said... "George W. Bush created two huge socialist programs, (the unfunded drug program and the bank bailout), attacked our rights in the constitution with his wiretapping, and violated the international rules on torture. "

    What ignorance?!

YOu do realize Obammy voted for the "Bank bailout" & the "unfunded drug program" as Senator Obammy! You do realize the CRA under Bill Clinton is what lead to the housing bubble/burst coupled with the blocking by the Dems to regulate Fannie & Freddie. Yes Bush called for more regulation. With two bills! & Obammy along with Dodd signed on to filibuster! Research that one! You do realize Obammy kept the wiretapping regulations Bush put into place and Obammy reserves the right to use EIT at his discretion? You do realize Gitmo is still open?
    LOL!!!
To busy playing hypocrite to notice! LOL!! It amazing how ignorant these DEMs are on CNN Comments site!

Can't believe so many comments still suggest Bush is responsible for the huge deficit THIS administration has amassed. When will it no longer be Bush's fault? How many presidents will have to pass through the White House before you wake up and smell the current poop in the Rose Garden? Really stupid people out there. Believe Ms. Rice is an excellent candidate. Extremely bright, hard-working, and true American.

While you may or may not agree with Ms. Rice's politics, please don't be so racist..she is an intelligent, strong black woman. She deserve some respect...especially fro those of you who elected the "token-in chief"

Condi should be defending herself against international war crimes charges instead of being a professor at Stanford. This endorsement might help Whitman during the Repug primary but it should be the kiss of death in the general election.

It is all about bed-fellows. I am not going to vote for Whitman, even if Jerry Brown does not join the campaign for California governor.

  15. Wake Up

You haters and Obamabots are embarassing. Condi Rice is a scholar. She is a genius. She is a very very intelligent woman. You left wingers sicken me. Hilary is a wife of a politician...Condi is a self-made, scholar.

  16. jm for sc

    jules sand-perkins,

If either of them had, it woud be the same as it is for Obama. People like McConnell does not want to respect a black president. Many will deny it, but that is 90% of the problem if not 100%. They are fighting to make sure every effort of the presidnet fails even if it means being caught in lies on tape supporting the very things they are fighting against.

Well of course Rice would support large corporate America.

Who cares what Rice says or thinks? She was as lame as
Bush and the rest of his destructive clan.

For all the nasty comments about Rice, I can only say that it must be envy. She's obviously head and shoulders above the average intelligence of those trashing her.
