Washington (CNN) – Senators have reached agreement to end Sen. Jim Bunning's filibuster of $10 billion in benefits for unemployed workers and road projects, Bunning's office and Democratic officials said.
The agreement, officials said, calls for two votes - one on the package itself and another on a measure to pay for it, as Bunning demanded.
The tactic Bunning was using was not a filibuster. Please do your research – "to speak for as long as they wish and on any topic they choose."
And, what's wrong with wanting to make sure the bill passed can be paid for? If the Senate had just agreed to use stimulus funding for the bill this would have been passed days ago. You can't exempt ever bill from paygo and expect to ever balance the budget.
That "blurb" tells us absolutely NOTHING.
Bunnings grandstanding epoch. Oooohh! Ahhhhh! (Not)
And just how in the sam hill are we going to pay for it?
Republicans are only trying to save face but it's too late, we all know they could care less about Americans.
why is it such a bad idea to actually have the money available to pay for these project, instead of this made up funds?
Pay for it by taxing Right -Wing Republicans, just like we tax tobacco, both are bad for America
Somebody has got to change the rules so that one idiot can't have that much power! It's ridiculous that presidential appointments and legislation can be held up by one person who obviously has his own agenda. And why, again, don't we like Congress . . .????
Bunning is a true patriot.
It's about time Sen. Bunning gave in and showed compassion for "Main Street" Americans. I agree that our nation's budget deficits and long-term debt are spiraling out of control, and we must take corrective actions sooner than later to address this problem.
However, voting to fund trillions of dollars for wars and tax cuts while all of a sudden becoming fiscally conservative and blocking essential funding to benefit unemployed everyday Americans is unconscionable and hypocritical.
The vast majority of the unemployed are not jobless by choice, and most are actively seeking employment in the weakest job market in several decades. In the interim, even collecting a few hundred dollars per week could help alleviate some of the pressure of trying to put food on the table and cover minor essential bills.

Maybe the Unemployed should ask Bunning's Charity for Help
On December 18, 2008, the Lexington Herald Leader reported that Sen. Bunning's non-profit foundation, the Jim Bunning Foundation, has given less than 25 percent of its proceeds to charity. The charity has taken in $504,000 since 1996, according to Senate and tax records; during that period, Senator Bunning was paid $180,000 in salary by the foundation while working a reported one hour per week. Bunning Foundation board members include his wife Mary, and Cincinnati tire dealer Bob Sumerel. In 2008, records indicate that Bunning attended 10 baseball shows around the country and signed autographs, generating $61,631 in income for the charity "The whole thing is very troubling," said Melanie Slone, Executive Director for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (Check his profile on Wiki)
So now Democrats are caving to Bunnings demands. And those guys thought they had something to talk abot over Bunnings screwing around with peoples lives, well not any more. Now Republicans can come out of the wood work and talk about how right Bunning was and they also know that Democrats will give them what they want if they continue to ban together.
Democrats should have found any way other than the way Bunning was demanding to get around him. I am so glad this is over but now Democrats can only stand with their collective tails tucked between their whimpy legs.
Typical Bible Belt Politician. Use the Lords word about helping the poor and less fortunate, help thy neighbor BUT never practice what you preach, especially if it interfers with your personal agenda. Politicians can never give up their free healthcare ,their sleek offices, their BOOZEand GIRLS or let the benefits of the needy get in their way. They must keep their constituancy less educated, lower pay scale and make sure they bow down to the great ones who keep them depressed. Bunning is the epitome of this formula. The sooner this area of the country realizes this and gets rid of these whiteheaded group of politicians the sooner America will once again raise its standard of honor and integrity.
Bunning is a butthead. It would be nice if the south gave us some educated people as their reps. Oh, wait, they don't, apparently, have any. I find it amusing that he insisted that the bill be paid for but did not utter a sound as Old Georgie revved up not one, but two wars without funding, WHILE giving tax breaks the the upper income earners. I hope they get this passed quickly. You see, while Bunning will gorge his fat face on a full meal, many people will go to bed hungry and mind you, Bunning, these are people you would approve of. It is not only minorities and illegals who are suffering right now.
Good for him!!!! If they had been focusing on jobs for the last 14 months, instead of everything in their agenda, except jobs, maybe we wouldn't need to be worrying about supplying almost 2 years unemployment benefits!!!
Just a week ago they make a big deal out of PAYGO, exempting any bills they want to pass, and anything that comes up is suddenly an "emergency" but anything else needs to be paid for.
Makes no sense!!!!!
Finally! Members of Congress have grown a spine.
bunning should retire to center field – take a walk from the pitcher's mound bozo!
HERE IS AN ANALOGY FOR HYPOCRITICAL REPUBLICANS
You are terribly sick, near death, and need immediate hospital emergency assistance. But you are currently unemployed and have no cash. Luckily, you have a couple credit cards which the doctors will accept as payment to save your life. What do you do?
Do you tell the doctor you rather die than pay for life-saving service with a credit card? NO WAY! I wise person use the credit card (temporarily accumulating debt), stave off death, and "hopefully" live to fight another day!
Senator Bunning is an idiot. Like much of the Republican party, he only cares about big business. Never the middle class workers! The American People should be thankful that this man is not running for another term!
Sen. Bunning is just a preview of what it would be like if the republicans take over.
And if you read the details, nothing actually changed. It's only that Bunning was trying to take credit for a sensible ammendment that was already in the bill when he rejected it last week. As if he was somehow the fiscally responsible one. As if he was trying to make people forget that he, along with his party, went along with hundreds of billions of unpaid deficti spending for the previous two decades! NOW he suddenly wants to pay for it? Hypocrite!
Sen. Bunning represents what is wrong with Republicans: giving the finger to the American people; clinging to ideology over solutions; always calling for tax cuts and small government; not acknowledging Bush's huge deficits, using legislative tricks and filibusters to block the congressional majority; and offering no positive solutions for health care reform or financial regulation.
Sen. Bunning, like President Hoover earlier, is out of touch with the needs of America during this Great Recession!
