Driftwood, Texas (CNN) – Texas Gov. Rick Perry won his state's Republican gubernatorial primary outright on Tuesday, avoiding a potentially costly runoff election against Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
With returns showing the governor on pace for a resounding victory, Hutchison called Perry to concede the race shortly shortly after 9 p.m. Addressing supporters in Dallas, she asked Republicans to unite behind Perry.
"Now we must unite," she said. "We must win Texas for Republicans."

Vote Bill White for Governor. He will never talk about Texas suceding from the Union especially while our brave troops from Texas are serving in the Middle East. Perry isn't a leader and is bad news for Texas as well as our troops.
It's a shame that voters would support a man (Perry) that suggests Texas should secede from the US. Do people really listen to what politicians say and understand the message? And if they do, does that mean the people that voted for this man also think Texas should secede from the US? What a sad state of affairs.
Let the succession party begun. See you later, Texas, we love to see you go.
Dumber than a box of rocks concedes to dumber than two boxes of rocks, this is news?
" We must win Texas for republicans " Here is one of the many reasons politicians dont have a clue. The motive should be to win for the good of the people, not just republicans. I hope the state of Texas, takes exception to this line of thought, and does some deep thinking before going to the polls.
Lots of wacko governors out there. Perry's another one. Important to remember who powerless the governor of Texas is, which is one reason we got stuck with George Bush. It's a high profile, do-nothing position. People interested in that position are REALLY interested in something else.
Before anything, could Rick Perry please stop trying to obstruct the investigation about if the State of Texas did or not execute an INNOCENT man?
Oh, wait... that would meant political suicide for him...
Forget what I said...
Ms. Hutchinson, I admire your graciousness, which Mr. Perry would never have come close to matching! Thank you for your service, and I wish we would be seeing more of you. (And, just for the record, I usually vote Democratically.) God bless you and your family.
