(CNN) - Reps. Michele Bachmann, R-Minnesota, and Alan Grayson, D-Florida, engaged in a spirited debate on health care reform Wednesday night on CNN's Larry King Live.
Specifically, the two squared off over whether the tactic of reconciliation - requiring only a simple majority to pass the measure - should be used.
"That's not how the Senate works," Bachmann said. "The Senate works with 60 votes, and now what the president is promoting is a nuclear option which is 50 votes."
Grayson replied: "There's nothing in the Senate rules that prevents reconciliation. It's been used 22 times overall and 14 times by Republicans. If it's good enough to provide tax cuts for the rich - twice under Bush - it's good enough to provide health care for all Americans."
Alan Grayson another liar! Tax cuts for the rich....really your lying!
The Bush tax cuts were for all people rich, middle and poor. Plus they have never created new legislation with this rule before, they adjusted the tax percentages not the same. By the way when the Bush tax cuts expire next year see how you like that! Upper, middle and lower income people will be greatly affected. It is a crime for the Feds to tax anyone at a rate of 40%, I don’t care how much money they make!
These filthy republicns will do and say anything to stop any progress.
Remember this at the polls people.
Remember the death, torture, wars, destruction, lies, tax cuts for the rich and destroying the middle class of America.
Remember how they called anyone who wasnt for their wars, against them and unAmerican.
Most importantly , Remember how Barbara Bush sat in her ivery lilly white tower during katrina and said, "They (meaning blacks) should look at this as a step up" when they were screaming for help in the stadium.
Never forget the disgrace these republicans brought to America internationally.
I will never vote for a republican ever again in my life.
I will never forget the SHAME they brought on America.
Grayson will be gone from the House after the November elections. He needs to go back to New York and stay there.
Affordable healthcare is socialism. Unaffordable healthcare is capitalism. We are a capitalist country, and as such we must find ways to embrace expensive healthcare.
If the poor want to pay for healthcare, I recommend they each buy a few thousand shares of stock in a healthcare index fund. Then when the profits are transferred to shareholders, they can use the dividends to buy their healthcare.
Another advantage of the current system is that by only providing healthcare to the affluent, we incentivize the poor to work harder. A person who is working to cover the costs of a sick child will work much harder than a person who has healthy children.
A brain versus a brainless bigoted McCarthyite... ought to be an easy win for Grayson. Why are they having two House Representatives talk about Reconciliation – it's Senate rules after all.
Why is it that reconciliation is okay for the Republicans, who have used it the 16 times in the past, but a big deal when it comes to the Democrats using the same procedure.
I think the Senate should change their rules so that only a simple majority is required to pass legislation with ties being decided by the Vice President.
Yeah great except the dems whined about it all the time when Bush used it. I hope no one seriously beleives that no one taxes will be raised to pay for this. They said it will bring our deficit down by billions yeah maybe but that doesn't even offset the Trillion it's gonna add to try and pay for this healthcare bill.
Why would anyone even attempt to debate Bachmann. She's a clown and a joke on the American people. She argues just for the sake of arguing. She has no real purpose, other than to get air time and say to the people: "look at me, look at me!!!"
no more arguments...just pass this health care, idiots....ok....Americans are suffering...they do not care abortion....people are lusty, they get pregnent...ok...it is there problem....leave it to women....change to the 21st century....no religion is needed here...ok
Reps. Michele Stupid Bachmann talks this talk about Democrats using the Nuclear Option to pass Health Care. That dizzy Ding Bat doesn't even know what The Nuclear Option is. Will someone please advise this mindless woman that a nuclear option is an attempt by a majority of the United States Senate to end a filibuster by invoking a point of order to essentially declare the filibuster unconstitutional which can be decided by a simple majority, rather than seeking formal cloture with a supermajority of 60 senators.
I hope the Dems try reconcilliation....then there won't be many left after November...and Obummer is gone in 2012...we repeal this diaster, the democrat party is just a memory....and life is good
Anyone who can't see the difference between using a budgetary procedure to invoke temporary tax cuts and using a budgetary procedure to invoke a massive multi-trillion dollar permanent change that affects 15+% of our GDP and has ramifications beyond any legislation we've ever seen in this country is either LYING to themselves or is A COMPLETE AND UTTER MORON.
But that's different Senator Grayson – the rules are only meant to apply to Democrats – I thought everyone knew that.
Hahahahahahahahha.............Bachman versus Grayson.
This can be compared to a debate between Einstein and Scooby Doo.
There is definitely something to be said.........When citizens/voters from Grayson's district are campaigning against him--saying that our congressman is nuts!! They even started a website saying that--"my congressman is nuts".
