Washington (CNN) - Global financial reform is expected to top the agenda Tuesday as President Barack Obama huddles with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou, whose country is at the center of Europe's debt crisis.
The White House meeting marks the conclusion of a four-country financial relief tour for the beleaguered Greek leader. Beginning Friday, he visited Germany, France and Luxembourg seeking support for his government's new austerity measures to counteract skyrocketing budget deficits.
Yep - he's right. We need to reform the budget in the US so it doesn't get as screwed up as the Greeks. But, Obama has us well on the way.
Too bad the Olympics are being held in Brazil. Greece would have been the ideal place to have it since they have the worst global economy and it is the home of the Olympics.
California is a long way past bankrupt, mostly due to its penchant for giving away money to "the poor," and it's penchant for constantly caving in to union demands.
Greece is bankrupt for the same reasons.
And Obama wants to do the the exact same thing to the entire US that's already bankrupted one country and a US state with an economy five times the size of the economy of that country.
This is either insanity or idiocy.
Beginning Friday, he visited
Germany, France and Luxembourg seeking support for his government's new
austerity measures to counteract skyrocketing budget deficits.
And our current leaders want to mimic Europe's style of Government? California should be the learning curve on what happens when liberals take control of government....Wait, I see it now, King Obama!
Financial reform? What a joke. Wait till you see the huge corporate giveaway that comes out of congress. I bet it will contain as much reform as the healthcare "reform" plan that was written by the lobbyists. I'll believe it when I see it, corporate sellout congress critters and Mr. corporate sellout president. You think this recession's bad, wait till the next one which will result from the government doing nothing to control Wall Street. Have a nice day!
Obama is working with the Greek prime minister to keep global markets stable, Biden is in Isreal working on a peace deal, Clinton working on international human rights and women's rights issues, Gates is in Afghanistan. They can do all of this and push hard to help every American get affordable health insurance. The jobs bill is also making it's way through congress. I love this government!
Sadly, no one is hiding in an undisclosed location. I do miss the hide and seek game Cheney used to play. I wish he'd hide again.
what advice could the white house give to the Greek head of state on skyrocketing budget deficits other than to show them what a real skyrocketing budget deficit looks like?
that's all obama needs, advice from a leader who has spent his country into oblivion, at least they will have lots to talk about, they have the same goals it seems.
This is to funny, Odumbo goes to the country that is also going broke to look for answers. That is most defiantly a "CHANGE" from what most people would do.
How about going to countries that are doing fine and see how they do things. See how real leaders act and take care of things.
It wouldnt work because Odumbo thinks he is the one and only, but what the heck, just a thought.
2010/2012 REAL Change is coming
So why is Obama meeting with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreau? Guess Obama wants to see if he missed anything regarding putting our country in a debt crisis.
don't forget to apologize Obozo
Obama needs to learn HE can't spend his way out of this recession, his actions are only prolonging it. We would have been in an economic recovery by now. If anyone but Obama were leading this country things wouldn't be so bleak. Hillary would have done a much better job than this naive, out of touch and weak leader. Democrats next time cast your vote on experience, not an empty promise.
With Obama's plan being to bankrupt our nation and make everyone dependant on the government like they have done with so many Democrat cities in this country, I'm sure he will be taking notes during this meeting.
Yep, Mr. Papandreou is coming to make sure we're going to funnel Greece some money, too.
If President Obama and the Democratic congress don't stop this crazy deficit spending, we'll be in just as bad shape as Greece. We need fiscal responsibility! Cut spending! keep taxes low! Stop taking money from the hardest working Americans to give free stuff (housing, food, healthcare) to the laziest Americans!!!!!
I am so sick of seeing and hearing this man. Either call for a vote on health reform, insurance reform or whatever "form" you choose to call it today or shut up! IF YOU HAVE THE VOTES...VOTE FOR CHRIST SAKES. It is something America doesn't like, sees thru and absolutely does not want passed. If it were so good for this country all those sweetheart deals would not be necessary.
Obama is sounding more and more like an evangelical preacher than a presidential leader. He is picking groups extremely friendly to him so he can show support for his fledgling popularity. I don't think I heard where his little campaign speech was yesterday...a college no doubt.
As he told McCain..."the election is over". As he told McCain, push this bill thru and he will find out "that's what elections are for".
Our so called leaders – politicians all – fudge and dodge and hedge their bets, and as our culture lurches through the sneers and the whims of postmodernity, we all know we need new creation, but we have forgotten where to find it. :(
Hopefully Obama learns something from the Greeks!
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.
The Greeks are learning this lesson the hard way. We will see if Obama can learn from others.
Maybe he should wear a tie or is that to much to ask of this president. Maybe ties aren't gangsta enough for him and his Chicago thugs. Even Jay Z wore a tie to the WH.
If I am not mistaken, it was in the newspaper a week or two ago, a former Greek government lied to the Europeans in order to be allowed to get into the EU. Be a member of the EU requires a series of standards and procedures that Greece didn't reached but the guy lied saying that they did. Now all Europe might pay the price for some guys' lies.
And probably so will the World (less than more I hope)...
At least they are trying to do their part (even with those wacko communists bombers that they have there threatening to do more bombings) to solve the mess.
Papandreou is talking to the wrong person about financial reform. Barry Soetoro or Barack Obama or whatever he is calling himself these days knows nothing about financial reform as evidenced by his dismal performance so far. But, he is after all, really just a community organizer who is used to making a living by taking government handouts so I don't know why anyone would expect anything else.
Dar you moron. The article says the Greek Prime Minister is here asking for our President's assistance and advice. At least try to read the article before you blindly attack.
Rickster – Again with the 'Soetoro' issue?
Well since your argumentation is filled with flaws you have to retort to dead yet unburied claims about the President's past.
The 'dismal performance so far' has managed to keep the unemployement numbers below 20% (or 30% if you consider part time jobs in the equation) as some people feared that it would reach when the market fell in September 2008, Dow Jones is back on acceptable levels, banks have paid back the money they got borrowed from the govt...
But the sky is falling and I have to believe in your words... Not.
