No back wax for Rubio

A spokesman for Marco Rubio says the Senate hopeful, pictured, never charged a back wax to his Republican Party of Florida credit card.
A spokesman for Marco Rubio says the Senate hopeful, pictured, never charged a back wax to his Republican Party of Florida credit card.

(CNN) - Florida Senate hopeful Marco Rubio never charged a back wax to his Republican Party of Florida credit card, his campaign spokesman told CNN Tuesday, rebutting Gov. Charlie Crist's curious allegation about his Republican primary rival's grooming habits.

So what exactly did Rubio put on his tab during his $134 visit to an upscale Miami salon when he was Florida House speaker?

Rubio's spokesman Alex Burgos has the details:

"Marco paid $20 for a haircut with a razor on the neck, and he bought some items that went into a silent auction, including gift certificates," he said.

Burgos said the salon in question, Churchill's Barber Shop, sells "travel kits and other gift sets that people usually buy around the holidays as gifts."

After details leaked last month about thousands of dollars worth of questionable charges on his party-issued credit card, Rubio said he paid off the personal charges – including his salon visit – with his own money.

As for the back wax claim: "Charlie Crist's obsession with making up things about other people's grooming habits is bizarre for anyone, especially the sitting governor of Florida," Burgos said.

"It's also a shame he cares more about what's in Marco's personal bills than what's in the stimulus bill he supported."

What next? Don't these politicians have anything better to do? Like maybe doing what they've been hired to do???????

    "The stimulus bill he supported."

How very charming to reap the benefits of the stimulus bill (an economy not cratering) while bashing it for political gain. Must be nice being in the party that doesn't have to make any of the hard choices.

WAKE UP RUBIO AND SMELL THE COFFEE. YOU ARE IN THE BIG LEAGUES NOW. People will want to know everything you do. They want to know what you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner, how many afairs you are having or have had and even how long you sit and squat. Nothing in your life is private any longer. The public and the media will even keep tabs on you while you hike the tails of Argentina.

Well since he was using the republican credit card for his own personal use, all they have to do is look at the charges. If it is on there. He needs to tell the truth. If it is not Crist or whomever said he did should apologize.

But I don't see how he can honestly talk to the people of Florida about the job he wants when he illegally used that card for the other personal items.

The sad thing is, that political rivarly seems to think the best thing to do is 'just put it out there' whether it's true or not....but Citizen Joe and Josie's are on to this..so in the end the messenger looses creditbility.

Again, politicans need to understand..people want intelligent dialogue..not garbage talk. Stick with 'REAL' issues.

The fact he had to defend such a ridiculous claim is the fault of the media for not doing their job. Crist is desperate and will say anything. It's up to the press to verify the facts before they post such claims. Instead they run it and make it easy for Crist to get away with these types of claims. The PRESS NEEDS TO START DOING THEIR JOB.

OMG, back waxing? has the media ran out of real crimes regarding elected officials? what about the tax evading, special interest bribes by the likes of rangle? or peloci's husbands comany getting contracts, or her nephews company getting contracts from government? are those not worthy stories? what about the 100+ companies that she claims on her w-2 as sources of income? guess back waxing is horrible, but is it really the worst that is being commited by republicans?

Now this is funny! Don't know if I quite believe the 'items went to silent auction'...To me it makes it sound worse. Sounds more like birthday or Christmas gifts!

Why not produce the receipts and get it over with? The comment "stimulus bill he supported." has nothing to do with this so please don't get confused with the allegation – just show the evidence.

Marco Rubio is running in a "retirement" state! And he was "approved"
by the standards the Republicans want in a candidate.

Most Republicans don't like "entitlements". Wonder how that will sit with RETIRED FLORIDIANS????

    I don't think sooooooooooooo!

So he didn't pay for a wax, he just paid for the same service to be done with a razor blade, gotcha. Glad we got that out of the way, good to know. Who is paying for this guy's haircuts and gift binges with this republican credit card business? Haven't we learned what credit cards do? Take a look at 2009.

In other words, he paid up AFTER he got caught?

Republicans seem to be coming out of the closet everyday. Their built up anger about gays is because maybe there is a little gay inside of them waiting to come out. Hypocracy is an interesting part of life for republican politicians.
