Washington (CNN) - Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-Rhode Island, blasted national reporters Wednesday for focusing on trivialities instead of the war in Afghanistan.
While delivering a speech, Kennedy spotted only a handful of reporters sitting in the press gallery overlooking the House floor. But because House floor debates are televised, reporters often monitor the proceedings from their desks outside the chamber where they can more easily take notes and work on computers.

Some of the comments against Kennedy and his family are evil. You do not know what is in someone's heart, Judgement is up to GOD. The Kennedy's served their country, well. Fighting in WWII, serving in Congress, working with the disable and the poor. The Kennedys have contributed more to our Nation, than any of you, Conservatives, ever will.
Rep. Kennedy is correct, the MSM focuses on the outrageous, on the flashy, there is very little substance on the "news" each night. Yes, the media has focused on Massa. Where was the story about the Healthcare March? You did not see it on Faux News nor CNN. Rick Sanchez did interview the leader of the group, but his tone was a bit condescending, something we did not hear when Sanchez interviewed the Tea Party leader.
Kennedy is irrelevant.
Finally, all Kennedys are irrelevant.
Strang when the Bush team said something about the press the liberals cried foul. Now they are in power and the liberals do not like it.
You all forget you have a mind and the power to turn it off. Better yet
think for yourself OH NO the liberals want to think for all of us.
Kennedy is right. Why should a french canadian be on here trying to tell us what the truth is?
There is a lot of truth in what Rep Kennedy said. Example: Rick Sanchez waits for President' Obama's speech on Healthcare Reform in Missouri and turns it over to Blitzer, who promptly ignores it and carries on with his own drivel about the Rove interview and his self-serving book promo. That CNN Situation Room is becoming more and more like a tabloid type huckster instead of a creditable news center a la BBC
Congress' approval ratings are around 11%, while some news outlets are enjoying double-digit increases in viewer ratings. Other news outlets, ABC, NBC, CNN, etc, are laying off by the hundreds. Perhaps viewers just got tired of all the bias reporting that has become the 'norm.'
People are watching and reading the news, they are just being selective in watching more accurate reporting. Kudos to them...
so blame the messenger, not the message.......it is the left wing message that is failing, not the press......wht part of "we don't want socialism" don't you get??
He's 100% correct. Our national press has become a cesspool of tabloid journalism. And CNN is right there leading the way.
I don't think any liberal has any legitimate complaints about the media.
Honestly, why should they report the actual legislation?
In America, 'News' is a form of entertainment, that's all. And law-making is not entertaining, unless it is a controversial bill.
So... the problem is not the media, but the masses. We don't have the attention spans or cognitive power to pay attention to real news.
Who out there in this great land would expect a Kennedy to have anything nice to say about any person regardless of what they do for a living? I think this Kennedy is just sick from the results of Scott Brown winning a very blue state. I think I seen a little in the news when Carolyn Kennedy was trying to get something going in New york, you know!!! I think she was just a little too far behind, you know. So lets all put the Kennedys back in their place, this country will do just fantastic without them, how sweet it will be to not have the worry about another drowning from driving over a bridge.......Betty
Kennedy may have been wrong about how many press were "monitoring" events on House floor. But he sure as hell was right about the press playing up trivial news 24/7.
"The media attacking Bush (about subjective things"
Yep, we are where we are right now due to "subjective things".
There are none so blind as those who will not see.
Patrick Kennedy is right on. The news media needs to report facts more, give opinions less and cover stories that have social significance. Running stories 24-7 because of the shock value and ignoring what is happening among our troops in harms way is deplorable. How about some support for our sons and daughters, husbands and wives
CNN sure went out of its way to miss the point.
It's all about ratings. The media only cares about advertising profits.
Anybody that thinks otherwise doesn't know the facts.
That's why when the Republicans staged phony protesters at townhalls last summer and show racist signs at pep rallies promoted by FOX...the media loves it because it shows drama and controversy. Telling the truth and showing civilized debate doesn't get ratings = less $.
Will God do us a favor and please make the Kennedy family disappear forever. Our country was founded on the premise that we would not have in our society families with titles of nobility, and this de facto noble family stands against everything that is just and democratic.
HEY PATRICK DOES THAT INCLUDE ALL THE TV TIME YOUR BOI BARRY IS GETTING??
it seems like you liberals arent paying attention either the majority of the people dont want obama care so how is that working out
The press used to be interested in facts, now they are vultures, paparazzi's, slimy filthy despicable people. The National Enquirer used to be laughed at, now they call it CNN. All just sensationalized so called human interest stories. The press does SUCK, thank you Patrick..
100% correct! The press is "dispicable" for covering sensational news instead of focusing on real news. If you want CNN to give you 24 hour news coverage sleep with 1/2 dozen women/men and have some name recognition and your life will be dissected. Anything else will get you 2 minutes of coverage. Another example is the teabaggers; call Dems socialist and pray for bad things to happen to the president and that will get you wall to wall coverage. Sarah Palin is another example, tell lies and more and that will get you unchallenged news coverage. Because MONEY is driving the news, they love a train wreck. Negativity over positive news happening around the world.
Tell me something I don't know, Patrick! More should take on these 'lap dogs' to the two parties. They tremble at going outside the box to confront both parties, for example, on single-payer or our darling, Israel. They need a backbone!!
I'm from massachusetts and this kennedy, like almost all, is a JOKE to our country.
Where was patches during obama's surge in afghanistan ?
No where to be found or in rehab drying out from pills and booze
Now patches decides not to run again in rhode island cause he's done a terrible job and RHODEY has the highest unemployment in the east coast
Good bye patches
Thank god for SCOTT BROWN
It's not the kennedy seat,it's the people of massachusetts seat !!
Kennedy is absolutely right on. I am from the Walter Cronkite era when the real news from given on a nightly basis. The American people knew when he gave the news, it was truthful and it was important. All day today, all the cable news channels talked about nothing but Massa and then everyone had to give their personal analysis of it. Enough already. I want to hear about the important things going on in this world, not the sensationalism of some political nut who can't own up to who he really is.
Even more 'despicable' are the politicians they are reporting. But the most 'despicable' is that Goober Gibbs that tells his lies from the White House podium.
What a goober.
AMEN!
On cable it is Palin, Rove, Massa, Tea-Party 24/7. There is NOTHING about Afganistan. We are capturing Taliban leaders and killing Al-Quida but the only attention is some mental "wanna-be" jihadess woman from Pa.
There was a little attention on Iraq last week – with the elections – when they thought there was a chance they might fail. But when it was successful, that was the end of that.
Heard any thing about Haiti lately?
