(CNN) - Sarah Palin and her husband Todd will testify in the federal case against a Tennessee man who allegedly accessed Palin's private e-mail account during the 2008 presidential race, Palin's attorney told CNN Thursday.
"Governor and Mr. Palin have been asked by the U.S. Department of Justice to testify in its ongoing criminal prosecution in the case of U.S. v Kernell," attorney Thomas Van Flein said in a statement. "The Palins expect to testify in person in Knoxville, Tennessee."
The case involves University of Tennessee student David C. Kernell, the 22-year old son of a Democratic state representative.
Kernell was indicted in October 2008 after he allegedly used information freely available online to guess the password to Palin's personal Yahoo! account, the name of which was posted on numerous Web sites at the time. Kernell accessed the account around the same time questions were being raised about Palin's use of personal e-mail accounts to conduct state business as governor of Alaska.
After gaining access to Palin's account, Kernell allegedly reset the password, scanned her account for potentially damaging information and posted the new password to a public Web site.
Federal prosecutors broadened their case against Kernell in 2009, charging him with four felonies: identity theft, wire fraud, computer fraud and obstructing a federal investigation. Kernell has pleaded not guilty to all four counts.
A federal judge has set the trial date for April 20.
Reached by CNN, Kernell's attorney Wade Davies declined to comment on the case.
I thought Palin believed in less government. Now she's hoping the Feds will assist her. Ha!
She'll have her pre-prepared answers on the palm of her hand. What a showboating this will be!!! Oh the poor victim yet again....boo friggedy hoo Failin Palin.
I would love to ask her some questions on cross examination. I think that I would be hearing a lot of "Objection, relevance!" during the questions though.
Will Mrs. Palin have her notes on her "palm" pilot?
She tends to tell different versions of the same story: She told a Canadian audience her family used to go to Canada to get medical care when she was growing up... then told an alternate version of the same story that had her family traveling south by ferry to Juneau from Skagway for treatment of her brother's burned foot, rather than to Canada, according to a 2007 report posted by the Skagway News.
The whole truth and nothing but the truth .... so help me God!
I wish the kid would have gave her the conflicker virus.
How could this guy get accused of doing something illegal, if sarah didn't get anything out of using a private e-mail account?

Oh my, yet a SECOND Sarah Palin article today..... CNN, you really must be in an appeasement mode for the left wing hatemongers.
I hope he's found not guilty so he can get out and do it the same thing to Bachmann(Satan), Boehner(Bonehead), McConnell(ConMan), Pence(Dense) & Cornyn(Cornball).
Hey J.D. Hayworth,
You are a super right wing conservative who I care nothing about. But here's some advice. If you want to beat John McCain, all you have to do is remind the people that he gave us this bimbo and you've won.
Palin quit as Governor. . . how long do we have to continue to listen to people introduce her as if she still is???
She's now just a regular citizen. Let's all treat her that way and maybe she can stop reading her own press, unless it's on her Facebook page!
The tone that CNN uses in its write-ups about Palin is unbelieveable. Even here, it is like they are trying to justify this criminals actions by saying that the information he used to access her password was "freely available online" and that her e-mail address was "posted on numerous Web sites at the time." Why does that matter? He is the criminal. But yet, he gets more respect from CNN than Palin does.
This could be very interesting if she is testifying under oath. Although she will probably get it together and become part of the real world before she says anything too crazy.
Why do we keep placating this crazy crazy broad with publicity?
Wow.. Palin better run off to Canada for some health care before she lies to DOJ.... She's nothing but LIES and HYPOCRISY....
This just keeps her active in the media. The American press will be there like a monkey on a cupcake. I'm sure we will all have to hear how everyone and everything is against her again. Oh well, this may be one of the only times I agree with the prosecution.
Unbelievable postings. I can't wait till you all are on the receiving end of some jerk like Mr. Kernell.

It was Queen
i am hoping for the day that she will no longer be the news. why are we still talking about her...she is not going away is she?
When she raises her hand to take the Oath, her hand will read "Act natural, A lie is the truth if nobody hears it, Hi mom!"
Darn, I was hoping that sarah was going to be questioned about her total lack of intelligence!
I don't have much of any respect for Sarah Palin, but we all have a right to privacy.
Also, I'm not so sure that CNN's description of how he guessed the password was meant as justification of his offence, but rather as a example of how easy it can be to hack into an e-mail account if you are not careful about it. There is no excuse for what David Kernell did, assuming he is found guilty of course, but that is also not an excuse for not taking appropriate measures to protect yourself from people like that.
to Ed in Ariz
Please name just ONE actual lie that she has told. Liberal talking points and other made up crap don't count.
Can't do it can you.....................didn't think so.
He guessed the password using information publicly available? In other words her password was something one of names of he kids. What a moron. Can we trust the country to someone who cant even pick a secure password? Answer is obviously no, but you people are morons and want someone like you in office.
Is she going to charge $100,000 to show up?
