Palin to testify in e-mail case

Sarah Palin has been asked by the U.S. Department of Justice to testify against David C. Kernell.
Sarah Palin has been asked by the U.S. Department of Justice to testify against David C. Kernell.

(CNN) - Sarah Palin and her husband Todd will testify in the federal case against a Tennessee man who allegedly accessed Palin's private e-mail account during the 2008 presidential race, Palin's attorney told CNN Thursday.

"Governor and Mr. Palin have been asked by the U.S. Department of Justice to testify in its ongoing criminal prosecution in the case of U.S. v Kernell," attorney Thomas Van Flein said in a statement. "The Palins expect to testify in person in Knoxville, Tennessee."

The case involves University of Tennessee student David C. Kernell, the 22-year old son of a Democratic state representative.

Kernell was indicted in October 2008 after he allegedly used information freely available online to guess the password to Palin's personal Yahoo! account, the name of which was posted on numerous Web sites at the time. Kernell accessed the account around the same time questions were being raised about Palin's use of personal e-mail accounts to conduct state business as governor of Alaska.

After gaining access to Palin's account, Kernell allegedly reset the password, scanned her account for potentially damaging information and posted the new password to a public Web site.

Federal prosecutors broadened their case against Kernell in 2009, charging him with four felonies: identity theft, wire fraud, computer fraud and obstructing a federal investigation. Kernell has pleaded not guilty to all four counts.

A federal judge has set the trial date for April 20.

Reached by CNN, Kernell's attorney Wade Davies declined to comment on the case.

Testifying "under oath" means nothing to a pathological liar.

You all would be singing an entirely different song if the e-mail account that had been hacked and your private e-mail messages were posted for all the world to see. How hypocritical! How small you are. You can't see past your hatred to the issue, which is fraud, etc.

hey attorney flein...she is NOT the governor!

palin seems to get an ego boost from being called "governor". reality check...you are NOT the governor!

her petty vindictive nature is obviously apparant in her attempt to castrate a kid who simply accessed her unsecure & unethical private "state" email account.

what you would say about the guy if he hacked into Obama's email account?
Obama would not be dumb enough to pick obama as his password. Yeah he should not of hacked it, but she is a moron who can't even pick a password. Read the article, he guessed from public information about her.

Why would CNN title this article "Palin to Go under Oath" on the main page of CNNN website? CNN tries to make it sound like Palin has done something wrong (as usual). Does CNN wonder why they no longer have any viewers?

Ms. Palin, Go away and hide yourself somewhere, anywhere!. Leave America, Why didn't you speak up about the way this country was going when "W" was in office. You are a coward! Why didn't you attack his policies that has taken this country into the worst recession since the great depression. Nothing you say now matters, period! The GOP are suppose to be such great Patriots, Give me break!.... You all have sold America to China, Saudi Arabia, Japan and poor third world countries for cheap labor and Big profits. America does not produce nothing anymore, Cars, blue jeans, gym shoes, washing machines and televisions are thing of the past!.....You have shifted those factory jobs to those countries to avoid paying health insurance, fare wages and retirement benefits to AMERICANS. Tell the Truth, anything else is an insult! Stop the Deception! Tea Party! What A Joke!

I love to hate Sarah but what this kid did was beyond the pale. Even if she was a very public figure one she still deserves to be treated as a human being, and hijacking a personal email account to broadcast all its results worldwide is quite inhumane. (If there was some smoking gun and the info leaked was limited to that, that would be a different story. Alas, it would still be a federal offense.)

If any good comes from this it should be an awareness that email accounts can be laughably insecure. The suspect gained access by guessing the answers to some very simple "security questions" that were anything but secure.

To HonestMistake: President Obama would not be stupid enough to have a public free email account for some hacker to get into. A smart knows not to do this. And for the record, she is not Governer, she quit. And should she be screaming at the top of her lungs about all this government interferance???? Keep posting stories about this whack job CNN, I love the entertainment.

You people the Palin haters just don't get it. She is not going away. It is sooo funny to see the posts because it shows how you can't stand to not read about her as much as you hate her. And in case some of you didn't really read the article or did and cannot understand that the Feds requested her to testify, not the other way around. Maybe if you read legitimate info you would learn that she is the opposite of what you think.
