Abramoff, DeLay appear in new DNC ad

A new DNC ad airing in Washington targets Republicans on ethics.

Washington (CNN) - With Democrats like Eric Massa and Charlie Rangel stealing headlines, Republicans want to talk about ethics.

The Democratic National Committee is happy to oblige.

The DNC has launched a new TV ad, airing on cable channels in Washington, D.C., called "GOP: Racked by Scandal." The 30-second spot is a response to an ad launched earlier this week by the Republican National Committee, attacking Democrats over the ethics questions surrounding Massa and Rangel.

The new ad hits back at Republicans, flashing images of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff and former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who stepped down in 2005 under a cloud of legal problems.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is presiding over "a caucus racked by scandal," the ad's narrator claims, as viewers are reminded of Louisiana Sen. David Vitter's prostitution scandal and an FBI investigation into Nevada Sen. John Ensign.

"Mitch McConnell and Michael Steele, they have done nothing to hold them accountable," the ad says. "After years of scandal, tell Republicans it's time to clean up their act."

UPDATE: RNC spokesman Doug Heye responded to the new ad.

"At the risk of providing Democrats some advice, the very week the words 'tickle fight' were thrust into the American political lexicon might not be the best time for Democrats to highlight ethics issues," Heye told CNN.

The criminal behavior of Republican politicos is much more interesting because the GOP thinks God is on their side. He isn't!

Nobody's perfect. but when a party advertises itself as the party of morality and values, you might think they'd try to be a little bit more perfect than the folks they condemn as godless liberals. you'd be wrong! there are no bounds to these people's hypocrisy. and if you talk at any length with a right-winger, you come to understand why. they truly don't grasp the concept of hypocrisy.

I suppose if I were at the DNC, I'd be trying to shift the spotlight away also.

All Democrats seem to be doing to blaming and targeting Republicans. Can we work together and actually do something productive Democrats?! There's a reason why you're losing support.

I was a republican 30 yrs.I saw what this country was put through by my party in last 10 yrs.I dont want 2 go in detail but we were supposedly superior than democrates in ethical conduct ,in fiscal resposibility. We the republican were not suppose to double the frn. bebt, dems left us with budget surplus ,We produced the biggest deficit.Dems suppose 2 b morally inferior than us.We took the cake.OUR rep in congress text sexual messages 2 under age kids.Senator tried 2 have sex in bathroom with a male.other senator having sex with staffer wife.Among all the great morally superior republican Mr.Newt gingrich was cheating on his wife while trying 2 unseat an elected president for the same offence.I m not a democrat but my advice to rest of u republican is to get togethher and get lost at applachian trail.

The question which party i more juvenile. They are like children and teens who keep talking about other issues when you want them to tell you what they did and when. The really don't want to have to tell you what they did so they just keep changing the subject. Eventually the truth does make its way into the conversation in bits and pieces.

Children and teens use this as a diversionary tactic and so do the politicians.

It is time to work on the problems and issues facing this country. Do you think!!!!
