Washington (CNN) - Republicans continue to push for an in-depth investigation into former Democratic Rep. Eric Massa's alleged sexual harassment scandal - questioning when Democratic leaders knew, and whether they failed to act.
"Calls for additional investigations are ways to say that some people knew and they didn't act quickly enough - particularly the Speaker," said Stuart Rothenberg, editor and publisher of the Rothenberg Political Report. "This is about Massa, but they are trying make it more than that by bringing in other Democrats and the Democratic leadership. It's understandable and it's not unusual."
A report in The Washington Post said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office was notified of the situation within Massa's office in October by Joe Racalto, a top Massa aide, concerned about his boss' behavior. Pelosi said in published reports that she was notified about the sexual harassment claims on March 3.

Seriously, don't they have work to do for the American people? The guy resigned. No one on his staff has pressed criminal charges. THE END.
Ah the hypocrisy of the liberal socialist Dems and their view of ethics. Investigate Mark Foley but never never really deal with Rangel or Jefferson and now Massa. Oh no. Dems do not sin ethically in Congress. Only Pubs do. LOL. Ah, Pelosi.
Shouldn't Republicans worry about cleaning up their own house? Ensign has caused way more trouble than Massa, and he's still employed by OUR government!
These morons republicans want to WASTE our money and time investigating this issue instead of FOCUSING ON IMPORTANT THINGS that affects the American people! are they stupid or what?
Botox Pelosi lies again.
This woman is disgusting, evil, and a witch (all in one).
This is a discipible woman.
I love the DUMocRATS who made fun of Palin. Look in your own party.
This wench is nothing but evil.
Republicans think all Americans are stupid people like them. HEY! concentrate on IMPORTANT ISSUES for the American people, that's the reason why WE send you there! MORONS
More importantly, when did the democrats think they knew that they didn't know what we didn't know they thought they knew we knew? These are very important questions. Have a nice day!
Time for the Democrats to go back to the records and relive the days of Republican scandals. These Repub two-year-olds just love it when something like this hits the news. They seem to forget that they are not above reproach and could burn up the headlines if their little pecadillos got out. Careful boys, your day is right around the corner and it's going to hurt.
They're trying to keep MASSA alive because the RepubliCAN'TS are DEAD!!! VAMPIRE – they need BLOOD to survive!!!
I guess because the RepubliCAN'Ts were let down when MASSA promised CORRUPTION!!!!! HE LIED!!!! So now the Party of No wants to keep the story ALIVE!! Do some REAL work instead of playing POLITICS for EVERYTHING!!!!
Tell ya what crybaby Repubs .... we'll let you waste time and money investigating Massa further when you let us do the same with Bush and Cheney.
Deal or no deal?
Care to open up those floodgates?
Let me guess ..... "HECK NO!" right?
LOL ... No wonder the GOP is a national punchline now!
so much for Pelosi draining the swamp....she brought additional animals into it...
She is such a hypocrite – the Dems did the exact same thing that they accused the Republicans of with Mark Folley, except Massa's indiscretions were much worse!!! What a bunch of hypocrites you libs are!
How are you paying for it??? – March 12th, 2010 5:08 pm ET
First, I think you meant 'depictable woman', right?
Second, your post shows your complete (lack of a) great education...
Now THESE are the issues that I expect Congress to take up.
Nothing makes me feel more proud of these Republicans who get paid taxpayer money to work on legisla...... I mean tabloid scandals.
Yup, over $80,000/year and this is what we expect them to do.
Forget about legislation. Acording to Fox News, The executive branch creates laws when Democrats are in power.
Sooooo cute!!!
Wow, where's the motivation for Ensign, Sanford?
Oh yea, forgot he's a Republican. We EXPECT them to create scandals.
Soooo, they make allegations of sexual harrassment, but the act of sexual harassment isn't what they're concerned about...it's whether they can find some ancillary wrong-doing by the Dem leadership or Dems in general? I read Boenher's statement more as a statement of what the GOP hopes is the case...not something grounded in reality or substantiated by any facts or evidence that provide probable cause (so to speak) to believe that it might be the truth. It's just a baseless shot across the bow.
Wasn't the Republicans hailing Massa as a hero?
Oh that's right, google doesn't cache news articles so I can't see if that's true or not.
Dam you internet!!!!!!
Do you see the razor focus Republicans have when it comes to governing?
And by governing I mean playing Scandal Police.
Do you see how much Republicans care about the American people.
they care SOOOOO much, that they put aside the job we elected them to do in favor of chasing scandals like dogs chase ambulances.
Really the party of the people. Ooops, I meant People Magazine.
Hi pot, I'm kettle.
Nice to meet you.
Do realize when you do exactly the same things that I do then you are no different than me and no better.
But since I have a louder voice I have to be right. Right? RIGHT?!?!?!?!?
Why is the GOP hopping on the politically correct bandwagon all of a sudden? So what if the guy is a lewd jerk with a raunchy sense of humor?
Sure I don't like this Massa fellow, but I really couldn't care less...
"FOCUS ON JOBS!!!!....ooooooh, shiny tickle-fight scandal....."
it's the same sort of neanderthal double-speak as them screaming "unemployment benefits are just handouts to lazy, dope-smoking, Oprah-watching liberal rejects" one minute and then yelling about Obama not magicking up the 7 million jobs we lost over teh past 18 months becuase of the GOP's economic ideology of deregulation and trickle-down daydreams.
They don't need to keep it alive. He is doing it all on his own. The Republicans need to run a clean campaign with no negativity. People are so fed up with the trash in DC that, this time, there may be a house cleaning going on. Vote 'em in. Vote 'em out.
Tell ya what repubs ...
We'll let you waste time investigating Massa when you let us fully investigate Bush and Cheney.
Deal or no deal?
Care to open up those floodgates Repubs?
I'm all for it ...
Let the games begin!
REPUBLICAN GOP HYPOCRISY STRIKES AGAIN!
(1.) – Lying Boehner and the rest of the GOP said nothing for ‘years’ as former House Republican Mark Foley sexually harassed Congressional pages.
(2.) – Hypocritical GOP shut their mouths and tried to hide Republican Senator John Ensign for using campaign funds as hush money to another man’s wife that he had an adulterous relation.
(3.) – What about S.C. Republican Gov. Mark Sanford for going AWOL as he used state money to chase his Argentine lover across South America while leaving his wife and sons home on Father's Day.
Just another ploy of distraction from the republican party. When you have nothing to offer the American people, you try to keep stirring the proverbial pot. Like someone previously stated, "the man resigned." Unlike his republican counterparts (Ensign, just to name names) who think they are above reproach. CNN, when the republicans have something positive to say, please report it. All we have heard since day one from them so far is bickering and bantering. What a bunch of childish acting old men.
