Washington (CNN) – White House press secretary Robert Gibbs made good on a bet with his Canadian counterpart Friday, showing up for his daily press briefing wearing an Olympic Team Canada jersey.
Gibbs lost a bet with Dimitri Soudas, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's press secretary, over the winner of the February 28 Canada-U.S. men's gold medal hockey game. Canada won the game in overtime, 3-2.
Gibbs' jersey had "39" on the back - the number worn by Ryan Miller, the starting goalie for the U.S. hockey team.
Gibbs quickly pulled off the Canadian jersey, however, to reveal a U.S. Olympic hockey jersey underneath.
Had the U.S. team won, Soudas would have been required to wear an American jersey at one of his briefings.
Gibbs said the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa had been instructed to deliver a case of Molson Canadian and Yuengling Lager to Harper's office. President Barack Obama and Harper wagered a case of beer on the gold medal game.

Ya Josh that's how the number one news network on the planet works, go back to the Dorito's and check your mailbox one more time, Oprah is coming on and your "work day is now done".
Hey Fibbs, any answer on whether Sestak was offered a job by the WH to get him out of the race yet or are you still "looking into it" coward?
Most of you sheep have NO idea, but this has been ongoing for weeks and it isn't just Fox news asking and getting ignored, the coward and liar is doing this to many networks.
THE CHI-TOWN WAY, RIGHT BARRY?
Gibbs and CNN are worried about an Olympic bet during one of the pushes on the most polarizing bill in history?
I'm suprised Gibbs was able to figure out which part was the front of the jersey. 10 bucks says Gibbs didn't watch the game and couldn't tell you what constitutes off-sides.
@DJBall – we love our Hockey here too – especially in Philly and I can tell you – we don't like Crosby the crybaby so much.
and to all you other crybabies – lighten up.
Good fun and a great ending to a great hockey game. After watching the posts from the "Pacific" entry yesterday let the right wingers and repubs loose on America over it...of that I'm as sure of as how great the game was.
Good thing Canada won. They would have attacked us otherwise. Nice to see a sense of humor for a change after all the negative spin 24.7 by Fox Lies.
Gibbs is as timely with wearing the jersey as Obama is with getting healthcare passed.
Once a wanker, always a wanker
gibbs is such a hick deutchbag
Josh) why don't you take your hate and shove up ass and leave this country, we don't need any more KKK republicans and take the tea baggers with you.
I'll take this bet over the bet that there were WMDs in Iraq.
THAT bet cost us over 5,000 US soldiers's lives.
This bet was not so bad.
@all the news that's fit to omit
Beck, is that you?
"And I'm sorry but there might be evidence that it just might be Unconstitutional if it passes"
Oh give me a break! Cite your "evidence" PLEASE! Is medicare "unconstitutional" too??? Can't you people ever let up??!!! Does everything that has anything to do with this President, his staff, his family or his freakin' dog for that matter have to bring out the worst in you irrational people??!!!!
GIBBS looks gooooooood in canadian colors he should go there and stay he looks so good
oh yea take that fraud barry boi with you
funny, but true to form for Gibbs; couldn't stick to the deal or his word....had to pull off the jersey and reveal his little gag. I fully supported the US hockey team, and was disappointed in the loss...however, this little prank shows the caliber of the entire Obama administration; untrue to their word and willing to slime their way out of being responsible to their obligation. I can't wait for 2012 and OBama loses, and we get rid of this stuttering bumbling idiot.
@TCM
Kinda like the Iraq war, huh?
Except we didn't borrow $800 billion from china.
You are tooooo cute!
I am a Canadian living in Canada. It is so nice to see Mr. Gibbs keeping his words. Just looking at him in our Canadian jersey makes me feel so proud to be a Canadian. More congratulations to our great atletes.
Funny stuff. I love these bets and seeing when people pay off. Reminds me of the Canadiens jersey I wore for youth hockey (truly ironic because I was a Bruins fan).
Would have been funnier, and more apropos, if Gibbs had a Venezuelan team jersey underneat. Or maybe Cuban. Maybe for the summer games.
I'll say this. That was a hockey game for the ages. Perhaps one of the greatest Olympic contests ever played.

Glad our two countries are getting along now. The dark days of Bush are over!

E have always been your best friend. Just that y'all got mad at us when we asked you to leave Iraq alone. Well, maybe if the guy in charge back then had listened...
"President Barack Obama and Harper wagered a case of beer on the gold medal game."
Now THAT is a Beer Summit!
Hated to lose that game, but at least it was to Canada. And now that I've seen curling, I know what those circles on the ice at the Park City Utah rink were for.
as a hockey crazy fan nothing got my heart pumping than to see our boy sid the kid score the winning goal against our on-ice-enemy team u.s.a. i have to say its more satisfying than beating the russians for geographical reasons. good to see he lived up to the bet he shouldn't have made.
fox reporters were calling our country's 14 gold medals a failure because the U.S won more overall medals. i understand thats good but how dos that make our 14 GOLD medals a failure?, what do you guys think about that? i want the american publics view not a bias opinion that a station has
What is wrong with some of you. It was a fun thing between two press secretaries and you have to go off on rants against our President and the Administration. Grow up!!!
That was pretty cool of Gibbs, to bad he didnt wear it the whole time he was supposed to during his briefing, but that is the Gibbs way of saying FU
Is there nothing that anyone in this administration does that doesn't demand rhetoric from the hate mongering republicans? Heck, it was just an innocent bet made between two people. Such christian people.
