Washington (CNN) – White House press secretary Robert Gibbs made good on a bet with his Canadian counterpart Friday, showing up for his daily press briefing wearing an Olympic Team Canada jersey.
Gibbs lost a bet with Dimitri Soudas, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's press secretary, over the winner of the February 28 Canada-U.S. men's gold medal hockey game. Canada won the game in overtime, 3-2.
Gibbs' jersey had "39" on the back - the number worn by Ryan Miller, the starting goalie for the U.S. hockey team.
Gibbs quickly pulled off the Canadian jersey, however, to reveal a U.S. Olympic hockey jersey underneath.
Had the U.S. team won, Soudas would have been required to wear an American jersey at one of his briefings.
Gibbs said the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa had been instructed to deliver a case of Molson Canadian and Yuengling Lager to Harper's office. President Barack Obama and Harper wagered a case of beer on the gold medal game.

A fumbling dork with or without the jersey.
I just have a quick question. Speaking as a
Republican.........
How can all you lefties and righties out there
make something political out of this good
clean fun stuff?
Some of you need to leave America for just
one year and then when you come back you
will have better attitudes. Life is good here, relax
take an aspirin, and enjoy life people.
"showing up for his daily press briefing wearing an Olympic Team Canada jersey" And why not, we have pictures of Obama wearing a Muslim turban so why wouldn't we expect his staff to wear other countries colors?
he should be goalie, nothing would get threw his bloated obese body. maybe Michelle should start her obesity war with Gibbs....or our bloated debt tripled by her awful president of a husband
LOL. Anyone making a big deal... lighten up! This is good clean fun.
Something is seriously wrong with people who can turn even a good natured joke into an opportunity to launch into one of their incessant hate-filled rants. Don't they realize they're saying so much more about themselves than what they're barking about?
This ought to bring the right wing nutjobs out of the woodwork
It is fun! I love calling out such a lying idiot. Every time he talks, I want to ask him to get me more coffee. If it talks like a hick, and walks like a hick.........
To Jeff Jackson in Alabama – amen brother. Coming from a Democrat in Texas. Maybe there are sane people of both parties who could actually work together on something? Maybe we should meet in D.C. with some beers and some common sense. Have a good one.
try again in 4 years. should have had 87 on the back instead of 39, but none you yanks would understand that.
conservative canadian living in the us.
You kept YOUR word and then you showed what you're all about – USA – USA – USA!!!
to "our game our gold". You know, just because we're "yanks" it doesn't mean we don't get it. Not all hockey fans are Canadian. I know Sidney Crosby is number 87, and I'm not Canadian. He place for the Penguins which is a team in the NHL which has American fans. It's not like he's some unknown.
By the way, Crosby is a great player, but for the love of hockey let's get over him already. I don't mind Canada winning, it was a great game, but why Crosby!? Ugh.
Wow...if you made a negative comment here, you probably need a diaper change.
Some of the negative political comments on this story are just sad. This was a bet with Canada. If wearing a CANADIAN hockey jersey is now unacceptable there really is no hope for America. The US and Canada have the best relationship of any two countries in the world, and if we can't see this as good fun between the best of friends – then heaven help us.
Nice to see. This USA-Canada rivalry will has been brewing for the last 20 years in hockey. I am quite sure that eventually our PM or press secretary will be wearing a Team USA jersey the next time our teams meet for an Olympic gold medal, but the Finns, Swedes, Czechs and Russians will have something to say about that.
All of you need a good strong cup of Green Tea. It does wonders for the soul!
I would like to see the fool move to Canada and take nobama with him.
Everybody making political comments on a story like this is pathetic.
Actually Zombie, I won't waste my time on the likes of you, what I posted WAS ALL FACTUAL.
What you post is all liberal, and remember, facts and "you people" don't get along too well.
This is just good clean fun. It's how hard working adults stay on this side of the sanity line. And those of you who are trying to make something more out of it need to grow up.
to my american brothas, what happens on the ice stays on the ice, you're just going to have to get over it. The whole side bet thing was just good sportsmanship between good friends. Canada took gold and that's how we roll!
just a good hearted rivalry.
Maybe we could get him to move there.
A member of the Obama Administration wearing Canadian colors?
Why is this news?
When Obama, himself, and his trillions of dollars of new debt will be resorting us to fly Chinese colors (i.e., that big giant red flag) over our Grand children's "America."
As a Canadian I think of Americans as brothers, but this is our game, and everyone in the country knew our teams had to win. If they didn't it would have been terrible, but it would not, could not ,change the brotherhood. Thank you America for being gracious.
