Edwards' mistress details affair to GQ

(CNN) – John Edwards' mistress tells GQ that she slept with the former Democratic vice presidential nominee only hours after first meeting him in 2006, and that she still loves the father of their child.

"You're so hot," Rielle Hunter tells the magazine she said to the former North Carolina senator when she met him at a New York hotel.

Hunter said Edwards promptly provided her with his hotel room telephone number imploring that she call him immediately. When Hunter called a short time later, Edwards asked that she come to his room. Hunter tells the magazine that she "terrified" and told herself she would not sleep with him.

"I had never experienced anything like what was flowing between us," Hunter said in the interview. "I sat on the other side of the room. I wouldn't go near him. "And he kept saying 'What are you doin' over there? Come over here. I can't even see you. Come closer. I won't bite you."

"I was just-there was sooo much attraction and sooo much… I want to say love, but it wasn't love at that point. You know, it was just this, this magnetic force field like I had never experienced. It terrified me," Hunter said. "Absolutely terrified me. And, um, I eventually walked over to his side of the room. He was pretty relentless. And that's all I'm gonna say on that! Now fade to black!"

But Hunter said Edwards quickly realized the potential ramifications of the tryst, telling her that "Falling in love with you could really f- up my plans for becoming president."

"If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans," Hunter said she told Edwards in response. Hunter was soon hired to work as a videographer for Edwards.

Hunter also told the magazine Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, learned of the affair in late December of 2006, days after Edwards announced he was running for president. She said Edwards' wife found a cell phone her husband used only to call Hunter.

She "picked up the phone and called me, because it was the last number dialed," Hunter said. "And I answered the phone and said 'Hey, baby.' And, click."

But Hunter says the two continued their affair, even after Elizabeth Edwards' cancer returned the following March. According to Hunter, the two conceived their daughter that May and Hunter discovered she was pregnant in July.

Edwards took the news well, Hunter said.

"He was always very gracious about it," she said. "And always said that he would support whatever decision I made. But I believe on some level he was hoping I would get an abortion. Because he didn't-he wasn't happy about the timing. Which is understandable. He was married and running for president."

As for the cover up, once the National Enquirer got wind of the story, Hunter says Andrew Young, the former top Edwards aide who recently wrote a tell-all book, volunteered to claim paternity.

"I was on the couch pregnant, and I just felt like I… it was devastating for me, because it went against all of my belief systems. And to go along with this insane plan… but I eventually made the choice to do it," she said.

Unbelievable. He was running for prez with this in his suitcase. Disloyal to his wife, country, and party, all at once.

Oh, come on! all of you get off your high horses ... this stuff goes on ALL the time – has NOTHING to do with the "party" – Democrats, Republicans, famous golf players or regular joe blows... cheating has been going on forever and will continue until humans no longer walk the face of this earth. My question is – if it's so "offensive" and "immoral" why do you care to read about it? yeah .. exactly ...

You just can't trust these sleazy lawyers. They start believing their own lies.

Sen. David Vitter is much the same dude but has escaped the spotlight for his prostitution fling(s). He is the selfrighteous family man until he gets caught spreading his seed around the neighborhood. Notice how quiet he's been since then? Mostly just heard to praise the Saints and hold townhalls in his northshore strongholds. He is going down in the November elections. The voices have yet to begin to remind people of the complete moral bankruptcy of this alleged conservative republican hypocrit.

Vote them all out and let's start over with folks who are not running for reelection but are doing work in the congress.

Photo shop is a dang miracle!!! It's laughable to look at the moving images & then looking at the photos!!! Somebody did a whole hell of a lot of retouching!!! Did they tell her to let her roots grow to 4 inches???

The only positive I can say is Johnny picked a real woman. There's no way Raielle would be confused with a teeny bopper!! hahahah!!! Way to go Johnny!!! The author or whomever it was I saw on tv today said that Raielle said Johnny didn't oppose her doing the article!!!! What? I guess people have been giving him too much benefit of the doubt or too much credit for having a brain.

Its super to see John Edwards set new records for scum-bag of the century. What a creepy guy.

I feel bad for Elizabeth. But each time another cheap, creepy, self serving "event" hits the media, it means more wonderful entertainment for the world.

For example, apparently Ms. (Mrs.?) Hunter is flashing some panty in her GG pictorial. Fabulous.

When did the Democratic party start behaving like the Republican party. I thought only they stuck to sleaziness, picking up gentleman in airport bathrooms or having an affair with your childhood best friend's wife and campaign manager (Ensign).....

Where has decency gone in this game! Isn't it enough that these two people chose to behave in this manner; that his wife had to go through the embarrasment and pain behind this tryst.....do you still have to wipe it in her face all the details of how you seduced her man. Where is the heart? We are all the same people, we hurt, we cry, we fall and....eventually we STAND......let Elizabeth stand now!!! You've made your point, you've ensured that her marriage is over........ that their children know the weaknesses of their father. You've also ensured that you will reap as you've sown. Be gone

Life Long Democrate – It takes two to tango and it's obvious the Edwards in the mood to dance. He is just as much to blame as he is. Shame on both of them. It's hard to see your Golden Boy turn out to be just another jerk.

Whatever happened to morals? How can a person be faithful to his office and/or his country if he is not faithful to his wife even? If a guy is not committed to his oath of matrimony, how can he be expected to be committed to the presidential oath?

Yuck,Yuck,Yuck! They deserve each other, and they are equally at fault. He was married, she knew he was married, both should have stayed away from the situation. Her "belief" system was that she believed she had gaffed a wealthy and influential man so she could get on the gravy train. I'm pretty sure by age 42 you know how babies are made and know how to avoid getting pregnant. Even if they didn't use protection there's always the morning after pill. I think it's hillarious that she wanted him, and his power, and by getting pregnant she wrecked the power that attracted her to him. Now she's stuck with a has-been, who is a laughing stock at best, and vilified at worst (albeit still a wealthy one, until Elizabeth gets done with him). It'll be even funnier if he tries to legitimze the situation by marrying her to get back in America's good graces. I predict if they stay together it will last a few years at most. Every day he'll look at her and know that but for her, he could have been waking up in the White House. He can grow old, re-reading his press (the good stuff from before the scandal), when he was a contender. He won't have much else to do when Rielle has moved on and his kids have shunned him for breaking their dying mother's heart.
Rielle- you should have kept your mouth shut, you came off better when you took the no comment high road. Stop slagging Elizabeth and her "wrath", you only have the cheater's word re:Elizabeth and their life together. The road to adultery is paved with cheating spouses' tales of woe and loveless homelives-FYI generally fiction to justify cheating on a spouse that's done nothing to deserve it.
"Johnny"...hope the sex was worth it. Your family, a shot at the presidency (or vice-presidency), your political career, and half your assets is a pretty big price tag for some rolls in the hay with Rielle...

    @Wilt:

"Classic Democrat love story"? Not to defend Edwards in any way (I always though he was full of crap) but the Republicans aren't exactly poster children for monogamy either

We really don't care. Hunter either has the I.Q. of a flea or she, like Edwards, for whom we had actually considered voting, is totally self-centered and shallow. This poor child deserves better than parents whose comments are showing no consideration for her future feelings about the events surrounding her birth.

Please move on to the economy and the desperate need for accessibility to health care for all. People are dying.

Well I guess there's one thing we can't accuse Ms. Hunter of – class. There is a woman out there with stage 4 breast cancer, and a family, who has to be subjected to this crap. It makes me sick.

Wilt, don't be so narrow-minded to limit this sort of failing to only Democrats – all people in power face temptations and choices, and sadly, their falls take a toll on many people, not just their immediate families

This is when two garbage cans ran togather though has nothing to do with other people so why do you Republicans continue always dragging others into this affair?
Look around you have more than enough from youir party of No to go aroung the world twice with some left over doing the same thing as J. Edwards and we don't have to go searching rest rooms or the Appalachian Trail to locate them time catches up with them.

Rielle Hunter is a scum bag and so is John Edwards. If she believes she is the first woman that he gave his hotel number to, she's a fool. Elizabeth doesn't need all this extra crap in her life and that scumbag didn't even think twice about what she was doing to this family and John Edwards is even more to blame because he did know what it would do. They are both selfish people who deserve each other. Too bad the innocent child has to grow up and know what a "ho" her mother was.
