How big were Tea Party health care reform protests?

Crowd estimates differed for Tuesday’s Tea Party rally in Washington.
Crowd estimates differed for Tuesday’s Tea Party rally in Washington.

Washington (CNN) – Just how many people showed up for Tuesday's rallies on Capitol Hill to protest health care reform legislation?

It depends whom you ask.

The Democratic National Committee said their unofficial count was around 300 people.

"There are more people on the blue line during rush hour than there were on Capitol Hill today at the tea party code red rally," said Brad Woodhouse, DNC Communications Director.

The DNC says Tuesday's crowds appeared smaller than crowds at recent events in favor of passing health care reform that were put together by Organizing for America, which is a wing of the DNC.

"Clearly the momentum is on the side of those who believe that we cannot wait any longer to pass this critical legislation," added Woodhouse.

But Levi Russell, spokesman for Tea Party Express, which organized the main rally Tuesday, told CNN that some 2,500 to 3,000 people attended their event, and he says even more activists are in Washington protesting the bill.

"The people simply will not allow this obese bill to be shoved down their throats by the Obama administration. They want to save their careers, but we are here to protect our nation, and there are far more of us than there are of them. The crowd today proves we will not stop," Russell said.

Well, 300 racists cons tea bagging one another at the KKK rally is too many but not nearly as bad as 3000.

Yeah, we know, all 300 are pissed there is a black man in the White House!

I think the picture of the child holding a sign of President Obama in a casket with "Kill the Bill" as text pretty much says it all. It's shameful. The tactics used by this group are dangerous.
As far as the crowd size, it's already been shown using photos of previous rally's that the numbers were grossly inflated. I'm guessing it's the same this time too. It's a small but very noisy bunch.

Why is Obama in the coffin on that little kid's poster? Didn't one of his parents look at this and think it may be inappropriate?

Did they walk on air to get to DC? I am asking because they came on the same roads while continuint their stupidity of take the government out of my life. Isn't that kid supposed to be in schoold? Oh right, they wouldn't want their spawn to be educated. Small crowd of losers. I should say a small crowd of mostly older, probably retirees, who are probably on Medicare. Are they giving that up so that they have to go back to work to make ends meet?

Tea Party bosses are know to lie about these numbers in the past. How can they be grassroots when GOP leaders like Palin and other elected GOP office holders are doing the speaking for them? Not grassroots, not independent, and not the majority. They are extreme right wing nuts who think it is OK to hold up signs of the president of the United States in a coffin.

  7. DIVERSE GROUP OF PEOPLE...HA

Once again I see alot of diversity in this crowd(sarcasm here). Why isn't that kid holding the sign in school? I can see how republicans are fooled by the nonsense Rush and Beck feeds them. You're a bunch of uneducated, trailer park trash, booger eating, incest having racists.

The Tea Party turnout doesn't matter, no matter whose figures you choose. The point is that patriots are not going to allow the democratic dictators, to take over the country.

Obama in a coffin??? They are extreme right wing nuts who think it is OK to hold up signs of The president of the United States in a coffin. Not grassroots, not independent, and not the majority. GOP leaders freely shout while standing in a crowd of people with this signs like its no big deal. Don't recall elected dems doing the same thing with Bush.

I don't know how many people were at the protest today but i do know this....there will be a massive amount of people show up at the polls in 8 months to vote the democrats out of office. And in 2012 there will be massive amounts of people show up to vote out the rest of the democrats along with the little dictator Obama....if he's not impeached before that.

You mean the old white people who are afraid of change movement?! Have you ever looked at the diversity of people in the tea party crowd?? I haven't seen any Black , Hispanic, Asian or any other nationality involved in this hate parade!! I don't hear any solutions to fix our nation other than the typical name calling.. socialist.. communist!!! You are all morons because the road you traveled on to get to your protest was paid for via "SOCIALISM" aka TAXES!!! The military you stand up for everyday is also "SOCIALISM" aka paid with our TAXES!! You know that public school you send you kids to.. guess what.. "SOCIALISM" paid with TAXES!! The list goes on and on! If you are so against communism then throw out all of you belongings because most of them were made with communist hands in CHINA!! We owe the communist money!!!! The communist paid for our invasion of IRAQ !!! HYPOCRITES!!! The Republicans are going to use you with all of your ignorant hate for votes this November! You think you movement is independent of any party, but we all know thats a lie! A little advice: Don't live your lives in fear!

  16. Save America, impeach the treasonous republicans

By the time the Beckerheads get the estimate from Fox, it will approach several million. There is that 'shoved down the throat' verbage again, all that is missing is the republican's 'bending over' to get their pay from the big insurance industry.
