"You lie!" congressman praised by voters in new ad

Rep. Joe Wilson of ‘You lie!’ fame is out Tuesday with a new television ad.
Rep. Joe Wilson of ‘You lie!’ fame is out Tuesday with a new television ad.

Washington (CNN) – He sat down and yelled, "You lie," at President Obama. But according to a new TV ad, he "stood up, when most people have been silent."

That's the sentiment from voters in South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson's new television spot - the first of his re-election campaign.

The 60-second spot features voters defending Wilson's work on their behalf, though not specifically his outburst at President Obama during a health care speech to Congress last September.

"He's passionate about what he does. And I respect that," one person says in the ad. "He says what he means, and he does what he says," explains another.

Brian DeRoy, Communications Director for Wilson's campaign, told CNN that a radio spot complements the television ad - and that both are debuting throughout South Carolina's 2nd Congressional District.

The campaign for Wilson's Democratic opponent told supporters that Wilson's new ad shows the Republican "bragging about his outburst again."

In a fundraising e-mail, Democrat Rob Miller's campaign said Wilson is "scared, because he's spent so much time as a Washington Congressman representing special interests." Miller's campaign said Wilson is spending money raised from the outburst.

Yet the Miller campaign is also trying to raise money off the controversy, urging supporters to contribute.

If the GOP had so much respect for Joe Wilson why did they 1) announce he would give the State of the Union rebuttal which resulted in Eric Cantor giving it; 2) Wilson was suppose to give the rebuttal on health care reform and again they picked the New Sen. Brown. GOP "YOU LIE".

He yelled "You Lie!" He is known for that disrespectful display. Nothing else. So the nobody is only a somebody because he is a disrespectful failure. If the tripe that is in that ad is even semi-correct, he would be known for positive legislation and not negative remarks. Go home Joe! "You Stink!"

  6. Save America, impeach the treasonous republicans

Joe Wilson did lie, but that is a plus for a republican. Unethical and corrupt is the norm for today's republicans in congress.

I have no respect for an elected official who disrespects the President and insults the office of the President during a speech. Sure, Bush was an idiot and deserved the YOU LIE! scream every time he opened his mouth, but that's from us, the public. The elected officials are not allowed to do that.

This man needs to be removed from office and never allowed to run for an office again.

As the Democrats twist and corrupt our laws today to shove a new and unafordable entitlement down our throat behind closed doors, and against the will of the American voters, who could have understood how accurate Joe Wilson was?

Joe Wilson is a neanderthal without the class to be mayor of Wasala let alone a US Congressman. If he were my congressman I'd vote him out of office, but then again, I'm not a neanderthal.

The rest of OUR Country resent the disrespect that Wilson has shown. Just how do they raise people in SC?? First Sanford (and that state is OKAY with his disrepect for his voters) and then this loud-mouth. My sympathies go out to those in SC who fail to see the point. This state is becoming a poster child of what is wrong with politics today. I'd get out of there while you can.

The biggest problem with Wilson's 'You lie' comment was that it was factually incorrect, as pointed out by every analyst, including factcheck.org. But it really doesn't matter, since his constituents will believe whatever they want, regardless of facts.

We have all kind of dumb butt republicans all over the country. too bad they are as stupid as they come.

One thing for certain low class and low character are one of the qualifications of republican politicans. You wouldn't see a Democrat, even tho he does not agree with the President of the country stand up at a State of the Union Address and yell "you lie". They would have more respect for the office no matter who occupies it.And if they could put up with bush and not defame the office they can do anything. But as I said stuff like that comes from being a piece of dung and republicans sure pile it up.

He is an ignorant, boorish, racist buffoon, and a perfect representation of the citizenry of South Carolina. They should vote for him and anyone like him, and secede.

This why the politicians of in the south continue to keep spending on education low, so they can get re-elected. They know that if they educate their citizens they will no longer be in office. The GOP of the south operate on fear and lies, something that educated people can see through. So I'm not at all surprised that Mr. Wilson has supporters who defend him and think he's doing a good job for them. Let's see, the unemployment in SC in very high, yet he votes against the jobs bill, there's probably hundreds of thousand in SC without health insurance, but he votes against the health care bill, SC could use green jobs and you know he'll vote against the energy bill. Yep, he's doing a fine job for the people of SC. Keep them uneducated, stay in office, that's the GOP motto.

I really hope Republicans win and the Health Care bill does not pass.

You see I stand to make a boat load of money if this bill is voted down. Insurance companies are raising their rates again next year to cover the costs of advertising agains the bill and when this bill is killed off they have complete free will to do so.

The great thing too is that all these opponents to HCR think that Insurance companies will reward you by lowering premiums.

Funny, because my brother who works for Aetna says that the company plans to raise rates and drop people in order to make up for the millions they spent on HCR ads.

And since I have thousands of dollars in stock, it's garaunteed Insurance companies profits will rise this year another 5-7%.

Way to go Republicans. I love when you vote down a bill to help millions and dozens get filthy rich as a result.

  20. Nonplussed

As my name indicates, I am nonplussed over....."he stood up when most people have been silent"! Hanh? When has any politician ever been silent, R or D. And talk about ludicrous.....where was his passion when his former "boss" was spending our country into economic chaos, not to mention hauling us into a Iraq on the pretext that somehow that country was behind the 911 attacks. And another thing, here where I live, with state and local elections coming up, it has become quite amusing to see the R's positioning themselves and actually advertising themselves as "Conservative Republican"!

Joe Wilson is a bigmouth in a pork barrel state. The federal government should cut back the Savannah River Site operated by the Energy Department and save some real dollars. Then let's see the good ol' boys squeal.

Funny, didn't Joe the "Heckler" Wilson apoligize for the outburst? To apoligize means to admit wrong. Now, he is using is rediculous outburst as fuel for his campaign? Nice.

As Obama attempted to once and for all squash the rumors of a government run plan to steal the souls of the elderly and use them to kill unborn babies or some such ridiculous crap...Joe Wilson HAD to steal the limelight...HAD to open his big fat trap...HAD to be the narcissist of the crowd who felt his words were more important than our presidents speech.

Sadly, we American's are too stupid to realize Joe the "Heckler" Wilson is just a total jerk – who care's more about his neo-con ties than actually caring for the American People. Shame on him and shame on us for voting this "tool" into office.
