Washington (CNN) - Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-California, hopes to keep her seat. But a fresh poll suggests she may have a steep hill to climb.
In the latest Field Poll released Thursday, a slight majority of Californians hold a negative view of her.
Fifty-one percent view the senator unfavorably, with just 38 percent having favorable views of her. That's a 12-point jump in Boxer's unfavorable rating in the poll in January.
Meanwhile, Boxer appears to be losing ground in hypothetical match-ups between her and three potential Republican challengers: Rep. Tom Campbell, R-California, former Hewlett-Packard Chairman and CEO, Carly Fiorina, and Assemblyman Chuck DeVore.
According to the poll, there's a statistical tie between Boxer and Campbell, the same between Boxer and Fiorina, and Boxer leads little known Assemblyman DeVore, in the poll, by 4 points.
In January, Boxer held comfortable leads against her potential Republican rivals in the Field Poll.
As for where things stand for the Republican candidates vying for their party's nomination, the poll shows Campbell holding a 6-point lead over Fiorina and a 19-point lead over DeVore among the GOP voters. Those numbers have not changed significantly since January.
And though California voters more easily recognize Campbell and Fiorina than DeVore - the number of people who have no opinion of them remains high: 59 percent, 58 percent and 78 percent, respectively.

She is the perfect 'Poster Girl' for why we need term limits here in California ......Bye Bye Barbara.....
November is a few months away. "People who have no opinion of them remains high: 59 percent......" CNN this article is misleading, making it look like Barbara Boxer is losing her base.
738 people were polled. The state has how many million people? Don't read to much into that one. I would rather vote for Hanky from South Park than fiorona.
Good! Boxer is a complete loon! She is so far left...she has fallen of the scales of insanity! Vote her out California and put someone in there that is worth a flip! I hope she takes Peolsi down with her!
Only in California could she have kept her job this long.
Californian Democrats,go out and vote for this wonderful woman.this is the FIGHT OF OUR LIFES.don't stay home because repubs are not staying home.repubs will stop at nothing.
YAY!!!!
It is the liberal leftest loonies that are going to go the way of the dodo. The centrist ones that can have an original thought may keep their jobs past November. The others are working on borrowed time. The ones that vote for the Health Care Bill might as well punch their cards now. This years elections are looking great to this middle-class, white, male republican. Vote GOP come November for the change you want, not the change you were supposed to believe in. : )
Sensible Californians are now realizing that they have some real loons representing them in Washington(Pelosi, Boxer, Waxman, etc.). I'm glad to see they are thinking about taking back their state. Here's a few more of the results of democrat rule in that state:
From the L. A. Times
1. 40% of all workers in L. A. County ( L. A. County has 10.2 million people) are working for cash and not paying taxes. This is because they are predominantly illegal immigrants working without a green card.
2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
3. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
4. Nearly 35% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally.
5... The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
6. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
I am no fan of boxkers but she does care the gop has wrecked ca what to do
Carly will score a knockout in the first round. Besides being a Democrat in the Senate, which dooms her career to start with, Boxer has been Harry Reid's lapdog for too long. She does not represent California or American taxpayers...just the Democratic party and their greedy leaders.
Boxer simply must go.
It would be a sad day for the Senate if Barbara Boxer loses her bid for reelection. I like to listen to her when she speaks as she is a voice for reason and liberal ideals. Go Barbara Go!!.
A slight majority CNN????
51 percent to 38 percent is a slight majority in your view but the gutless fraud of a President has a mandate to ruin my Country and he won by 52-46???
I also notice 51 was WRITTEN out as fifty-one BUT 38 was written to seem better NUMERICALLY?
Who writes this garbage?
No wonder the cartoon network is CLEANING your clock and where is the MOST WATCHED news network on al of cable – NUMBER 2 in ALL of cable.
GOOD-BYE, BOXER. You've done enough damage in the US Senate.
Boxer hasn't done much of anything for CA, unless you count embarrassing Secretary Rice, and a military officer testifying before a committee. Toss in the bouncing check scandal, and Boxer shouldn't answer the bell.
Good
Time to put it away, Babs. Dorgan did it, well ahead of the curve, I'd say. If you were smart, you'd retire, too.
Boxer in a fight for her job? Now, how can that be? Could it be that she snubbed the majority one too many times? Could it be that Americans will not stand for legislation being crammed down their throats? Barbara, I recommend you take a few minutes away from your fervor to "Deem" and pick up a third grade Civics book. There is something in that book that discusses the principles of "We the People". You see Barbara, you have forgotten the difference between "We", whom you are charged to serve, and "You and your peers" who were put in Congress to represent us and serve at the pleasure of the people. Unfortunately, Barbara, there are difficult lessons to be learned when one forgets whom they serve. In the private world, one loses his/her job. And in Congress? Could it be that the same rules apply? Good luck during Fall midterms, Barbara.
She likes cuba so much, maybe she could get elected there. It would be our gain for sure.
Sure hope she loses. tired of listening to the goofy ideas, hope she takes her sidekick pelosi with her. enough already.
she can thank Pelosi for her loss.
This woman is toast. Good riddance.
First the liberal state of Massachusetts stated they do not believe in this health bill. Now the liberal state of California is telling you the same thing. The majority of Americans feel the same way. So, what does this tell yu about Pelosi and President Obama? It says to us: “who cares what you lowly people want. We will tell you what you are going to get”. They are just thumbing their noses at us; a bunch of arrogant fools.
No surprise here. Name ONE accomplishment from her entire tenure, that is attributable to her. Just one. She along with the other fem dem harpies were ONLY elected as a result of the Sen, Haywood Sexual Assault witchtrials...but when it came to the Sexual Predator in Chief, Billy Jeff Clinton, all that they could do was hiss, tisk, tisk Bill...IT WAS THE GIRL'S FAULT, even though at the time, ML was 3 years older than Clinton's TEENAGE daughter.
Hypocrite, thy name is Boxer, Pelosi, DeGette AND HRC, known for the VAST right wing conspiracy.
