Funny how CNN and the others IGNORe the other group of Nuns that agree with the Bishops, but that wouldn't help "moving those numbers forward" would it CNN?

How about the story where in the LIBERAL New England Journal of uh, uh, uh, uh, uh MEDICINE, Doctors are on RECORD as saying they WILL QUIT if Obamacare is passed, QUIT.

Maybe a story on the CVS, Walgreens and WalMarts that are NO LONGER going to take take prescriptionsbecause they are LOSING MONEY.

Nah, "we don't need no stinkin' facts".

    See you in November.

A true showing of compassion. I applaud these nuns for sticking to their principals despite the underhanded tactics of Republicans to paint it in another light.

The bishops are bought and paid for by the Republicans who know the magic word 'abortion' whips the blindly religious into a frenzy. Maybe THEY should read the bill and stop spreading lies.

I'm glad to hear Amanpour has left fascist leaning CNN. She's a better fit where there are true journalists that write and speak of issues and don't just run "little clips" here and "little clip" there.

The priests and bishops of the Catholic Church have lost any moral authority they once had. Nuns, by contrast, have not been involved an any scandals – certainly not sex scandals – as a group. The Church would be better served if faithful women took leadership formally. They could begin the process of rebuilding the Church from the ruin it has become. America's Catholic citizens are not being well-served by this institution which has lost its way.

Meanwhile Congressman Stupack (Stupid-Pack?) insists that he listens only to the Bishops – because Catholic Nuns don't count.

Doesn't that sound a lot like a Male Authoritarian psycho type who takes to denigrating women ? They used they used to call these guys "Chauvinist Pigs"

I guess Stupack prefers to be in the company of the "Pedophiles for Jesus" crowd.

Good for the nuns! The Chruch hierarchy seem to have gotten it all wrong once again. Their atempt to support a back door attack on a woman's right to choose not only her health care, but her own decsion to have an abortion is rather transparent. This is a good bill, not great. It will solve many heath reform problems for millions of insured and uninsured citizens, as well as cut the deficit. Aside from that it is the moral and just thing to do. Moral and just decsions appear to have been seriously lacking by bishops in the Church in recent decades...just ask any of the victims of pedophile priests who were protected by the bishops for decades. Go get 'em sisters. you have the moral highground, not the bishops.

I would think the Bishops are in enough trouble with the child molestation charges floating around. Maybe they should listen to nuns who seem to be much more in tune with morality and ethics that these old men.

As the argument goes over the past 24 hours, these nuns are the experts because they work in healthcare. Therefore, their opinion should be taken above the positions of the Bishops.

    Three comments:

    1) The bishops have also consulted many persons who work in heathcare – for decades in fact. Many of them doctors, nurses, and I would daresay religious sisters as well. Those persons have advised the bishops.

    2) Other "coalitions" of religious sisters have responded in kind today, in support of the position given by the Catholic bishops. They have not been covered by the press.

    3) These NETWORK religious sisters insist (rightly) that the opinions of professionals in the healthcare field be consulted (as the bishops have done) and given more "weight." Then one has to wonder what to make of the fact that across the board not one organization that opposes abortion – organizations in many case headed and staffed by career healthcare workers themselves – has retracted their positions and seen things the way NETWORK does.

I guess taking the Hippocratic Oath was just smoke and mirrors. Looks like doctors value money over human life. Good, now we know.

As for your story about Medicare, isn't that happening NOW? Wouldn't passing this bill address those issue?

Or are you stupid enough to think that if this bill fails we will bring up HCR in the country ever again?

Well, it sure is nice to finally see some real Christians following the word of Christ, as opposed to all the phony "Christians' who support war while refusing to help the poor.

thank you sisters. we all know its the nuns who care for the sick in catholic hospital, never the bishops. stupid stupack is thinking with his little head again instead of thinking with his big one. the male dominated catholic church is showing their hated of women again. what do you think jesus would say if he came back today? do you think he would be happy with the catholic church? i think he would be very upset with them as he was in the temple with the money changers. thats what the catholic church is, money changers. they (the bishops) have no business telling the american people how to vote. when they pay taxes then they have the right to tell us how to vote. do they vote? they have no business telling our congress people how to vote. church and state separate remember?? shame on the catholic church, if you are so pro life how about caring for the life that is here now and breathing?? how dare you tell a woman its a sin to take birth control. you who have everything in your life paid for and taken care of by us!

As well as being a Nun this woman is an attorney who has carefully read the bill and understands what's in it. She also stated she doesn't understand what the Bishops are reading in the bill or if in fact they have read the bill.

Bless the nuns. They have guts.
As opposed to the bunch of criminal and corrupt sex-offender
bishops, who continue to try to brush all the filth under the carpet.
Including the Vatican. They are the worst.

No where in the bible is abortion condemned. I am pro life but Stupark is pro choice for decriminating against millions of lives for the unborn. He is a liar and hypocrate. How is he pro life while supporting wars all over the world?

  21. The Clear Thinking Independent Voter

I don't normally give much weight to religious people commenting on politics but given the fact the these Catholic bishops have stuck their noses in this, I think it very appropriate to hear from an equally [more?] pious group of Catholics as an antidote.

The language in the bill has no bearing on abortion. Nothing would change the status quo.

Instead of just letting Bart Stupak bluff them ... the members of the media should be asking him to detail where the HCR bill enables abortion with federal dollars. Those correspondents (Wolf Blitzer, Chuck Todd, etc.) should be armed with the language in the bill [cite the page number] that refutes the claim.

If the media won't do it's job and call people out when they are lying rather than just put their propoganda on the air .... then MAYBE they don't deserve any 1st Ammendment priviledges.
