In unusual step, Obama heads to the hill Saturday

Washington (CNN) - President Obama plans to address the House Democratic caucus Saturday to make a final plea for the health care overhaul, a day ahead of an expected House vote.

Four Democratic officials familiar with the plans told CNN on Friday that the president will speak Saturday to the lawmakers. The pitch will be made on Capitol Hill, White House aides said. No further details were immediately available.

The House of Representatives is set to vote Sunday on a sweeping $875 billion reform plan that cleared the Senate in December, as well as another $65 billion in compromise changes to the measure.

If the Senate bill passes the House, Obama will sign it into law. If the package of changes is passed, it will be taken up by the Senate.

Democratic leaders are trying to round up the 216 necessary votes to pass the bill. According to CNN's latest count, 29 Democrats plan to vote against the legislation. Thirty-eight Democratic "no" votes are needed to kill the bill.

Multiple Democratic leadership sources told CNN that Democrats have over 200 "yes" votes, though it was not clear Friday night how close Democrats were to securing the votes they need.

They are going to trick these poor democrats into voting for it with the promise of the "fix-it" bill. Unfortunately, that "fix-it" bill will fail in the Senate and they will have voted for this monstrosity as it is. Then their butt will be on the line during their next election. So sad...

No to mention that I just found out the IRS will be the main enforcement body in this bill. They will have to confirm your insurance on a monthly basis and make sure it is up to the "governments standard" of care, whatever that is. If not, prepare for fines. Also, this bill will allow companies to increase your insurance rates if you are overweight or have other issues. READ THE BILL, don't blindly follow!!!

No to Health Care! This is not a 3rd world country to have Obama tell us what is good for us in 200000 pages!

George - sorry to interrupt you over here with a voice from the reality-based community, bot nobody IS calling the bill that will be voted on tomorrow a "National Health Care System."

Except, of course, its fear-mongering opponents.

The bill's supporters are calling it health care reform, or more precisely, health insurance reform.

It modifies and regulates the private health insurance industry to eliminate some its worst abuses.

It adds public-private health care purchase exchanges, so those who are unable to afford the private health insurance industry's policies will be able to do so.

It's about as far from socialism as you are from making sense.

    And I hope it passes.

So please take your finger of the shift lock, stop shouting at us all, and pay attention before you go spouting all sorts of nonsense.

George, you are the kind of uneducated, ranting person that simply can't grasp the concept of "majority". You also accuse your President of things he's never done. He's made his case for health care reform with reason, conviction and passion. He's leading the nation to where it should go.

It will be an improvement to have options if you have a pre-existing condition or lose your health insurance because of job loss. I know people who have lost insurance and were stuck paying lots of money to continue with COBRA. The insurance companies are in it for the money, not because they care about people. This legislation is FOR the people.

I can't believe there are other human beings that believe that there could be a better use of taxpayer money than to provide basic health care to others and who could defend a system that provides incentive to deny care to those who need it in the interest of enriching those who already have it.

All of this fear mongering about the budget defecit and the government "takeover" of healthcare seems similar to chairman Mao's nationalizing the private sector, but from a different angle. Mao levied huge taxes in order to make businesses seek relief from those taxes by asking to be nationalized. He said, "It's like getting a cat to eat chile. Rub it on the cat's ass and when it starts to burn the cat will lick it off and be glad of it." The point here isn't that the government "takeover" is socialist, rather that if as a dictator you want something done, the most efective way to do it is to make the subjects so uncomfortable, that they'll ask for it of their own volition.

It's definately time that Washington, who should work for the people, actually do something that is needed by all the people. WE NEED HEALTH CARE FOR ALL! I work for the people of PA so I have health care but there are those that still, in this day, in this Country where everyone who has a few pennies in their pockets decide to adopt outside of this Country, have children and others that do not have health care.

The American people don't want it. It's a ridiculous plan that will only result in government control of health care. (We've all seen what they've done with our school system). Taxpayers for decades l to come will rue Obama's policies, and democratic socialist ideologies. I'm happy to see the shine of his "cult of personality" is starting to tarnish. With his socialist ideologies and political arrogance, I believe he bringing America closer to the brink of totalitarianism than any President in history.

I urge everyone to look behind is polished speeches, and celebrity aura to his true history, and political trickery.

no, it's not called a dictatorship ... in a dictatorship, there would be no vote, no discussion. get your facts straight.

and they aren't cowards if they are brave enough to do what is right. recall that there was a huge group of people who were against emancipation, yet it was still passed. and, in the same way now, healthcare for everyone is right whether you think so or not.

Spot the issue, ask the Dems, the true majority in Congress, "Do we want to jjoin every civilized nation on earth by having universal health care, or do we want to keep America back like the Republican Party would do?

Has anyone ever noticed that if the comment is not pro Obama it is left for moderation? that is probably why there are only 5 or so comments to slide by moderation. Is anyone suppose to believe only 5 people are awake this fine morning or is it that we are not saying the right things? Maybe if we had taken a ride on air force one we would have said the right things.

George – what poll are you reading? The vast majority want health care reform. The Republican propaganda machine is able to twist the facts to come up with whatever numbers they would like to see. It's too bad we can't just do a national vote and make the outcome binding.

I hope that these Democrats who are holding out don't change their mind. This would be devasting for America's insurance companies, the repupublicans, Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin and Sean Hannity. America cannot afford to pay for this social agenda...we need that money for bombs, state of art aircarfts, espionage technology, nation building and war...war people! If we spend one more cent on social entitlement programs like student loans, unemployment benefits and no child left behind then with what money do you think we'll be able to afford to give tax cuts to the "real Americans" who make this country's economy the best in the world-the rich- Huh? So please

George, get a grip. First of President Obama was elected partly because he promised this bill. Second half the country wants it.

Since there is a tie in the polls, they should follow the more important polls, the voting booths that put him into office for this.

Third, go back to school and get an education, you'd be less likely to be paranoid or fall for partisan garbage.

Obama was elected by 53% of the vote to enact an agenda of his pleasing. So what if he has to hand a few hundred million under the table here and there to get some votes. Who cares if they use Slaughter House 5 rules to enact a bill hovering with around 30% support from the American people. When are people going to learn that the guys who wrote the constitution had it all wrong we don't need limited government with people left with the freedom to govern themselves. Sometimes we need a slick fish like Obama to push against the majority of the entire country to satisfy his ego and move the super mean evil United States one more step closer to a welfare nanny state. That is the end game for Liberals like Obama, welfare nanny state. People think they lost rights with the patriot act? The patriot act, which Obama continues, is nothing compared to what these liberals have in store for us. If they thought they could get away with it they would go take the constitution from its safety vault and start rewriting it today. Cross out life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and replace it with we are all equal parts of one machine working for the good of the whole. They might as well come out and change their liberal banner to communist. Who is evil in the U.S. if you watch liberal news? Anyone who has it better than you do that’s who and until we can redistribute, I heard that somewhere before, the wealth this is an unjust country.
