A new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll reveals that 51 percent of respondents disapprove of President Obama's job performance.

Washington (CNN) – For the first time, a CNN poll has found that a majority of Americans disapprove of President Obama's job performance.

According to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Monday, 51 percent of respondents disapprove of Obama's job performance and 46 percent approve of it.

Obama's approval rating has dropped steadily each month since December, when it was 54 percent. His highest approval rating in a CNN poll was 76 percent in February 2009 shortly after he took office.

The new poll was conducted before the House on Sunday narrowly approved the Obama administration's signature domestic policy proposal: health care reform.

The measure, which Obama plans to sign on Tuesday, represents the biggest expansion of federal health care guarantees since Medicare and Medicaid were enacted more than four decades ago.

In fact, health care was the policy area that drew the second highest negative rating, with 58 percent registering disapproval. The highest negative rating was 62 percent for his handling of the federal deficit.

While his performance ratings have slid, Americans personally like Obama. The poll found that 70 percent of respondents approve of him as a person, and only 25 percent disapprove.

On the economy overall, 54 percent disapprove of his work and 43 percent approve. He scored well for his handling of the environment and education, as well as on national security.

"Obama scores some of his best numbers on 'commander-in-chief' issues - Afghanistan, Iraq, and terrorism," said Keating Holland, CNN polling director. "In January, 51% approved of Obama's handling of Afghanistan; that number is now 55%, an indication that the public has a positive view of the latest military offensive in that country."

The CNN poll was conducted on March 19-21 through telephone interviews with 1,030 adult Americans. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Gee...I wonder why...the poor guy inherits Bush's war and the worse Financial crisis. He has been pounded literally daily by the far right on the radio and TV.......and the GOP which ruined things has literally stayed together and had NO game pln of their own except to create fear again and hope they can stall until the fall elections.

Anybody would have these kinds of ratings with that crap going on.

I applaud Obama for sticking to his principles....poor GOP of course have none...ie..."you lie and baby killer"

I APPROVE and I am the silent majority --MODERATE

What is WRONG with you people? Releasing poll data ONE DAY after a MAJOR win for our President isn't just irrelevant - it's plain stupid. Like, give it about a WEEK - and let's see if your little poll still matters.

I am guessing that it won't matter at all.

Didn't he read the newspapers before pushing through this bill. Didn't he hear the voice of the people. I fear that he and Nancy, and Harry will have a great time in the next months as they trip over themselves trying to persuade the people of this great nation that they were just doing what they thought the people wanted.
Pick up the newspaper and find out what the people really think of you Barack, Nancy and Harry – you might have to do a little backpedaling to see where you really stand with the American People.
    WE WILL REMEMBER IN NOVEMBER.

joy comes with the morning...today is morning in America! Michael the
archangel has stood with our beloved President Obama and the good law makers that ended MEDICAL DISCRIMINATION. In contrast the
angel of darkness stood with Congress representatives that voted
to protect and preserve MEDICAL DISCRIMINATION. Rush is right
these 'bastards' who support the systemic abandonment and killing
of sick people should be voted out of office as fast as an Angel can fly.
God is doing a new thing this Easter....all the apostles, martyrs, prophets
saints, holy men and women sing and pray with our beloved President
Obama for delivering good and faithful americans and end to medical
discrimination....Blessings and prayers for all who support this
moral and holy act...!!!it it it is morning in America..Easter too Pastor

Bush's numbers dropped for not listening to the Will of the People also. Obama's got big enough ears, shouldn't be hard to listen.

i wonder when people will figure out that these polls are not a true representation of how a large number of people feel. there is no way in the world that a poll of 1030 people can represent the feelings of over 200 million adults. and yes, i know that polling millions of people would be impractical & expensive, but these polls seem to be nothing more than inaccurate talking points.

People have finally awakened to the fact that obama is a FRAUD, a Liar, and a Charlatan who does NOT belong in the White House.

    What took them so long???

obama is a disgrace to America.

obama cares ONLY about his Personal Agenda, not the Agenda or Needs of Americans.

The man is sick with arrogance and ego, ego, ego.....and POWER.

obama should be relieved of duty As Soon As Possible......
Citizens Must do What Is Best For America.

The 51% will soon be 75%....

I think Obama's is doing remarkable, considering the condition of our country when he took office. People have short memories and some are still in denial. Keep up the good tenacious work. There are alot of people who really appreciate your honesty and integrity,

Not for the first time, it's been that way since day 1. Can someone come over and clean up the puke? I puked all over when I saw the debacle. At least it smells better in my house that it does in their house.

Regardless of whether this President gains grounds with the voters or passes bills that drive his agenda, or whether is he is re-elected in 2012..... Obama will go do in his as the most devisive President in US history.

He has made no genuine effort to bring this country and its different political parties together, he is driving a wedge into our nation by taking an elitist, take it or leave it, I'm the president approach.

Who do you poll? I don't think your poll is very accurate especially when you poll only a little over 1,000 people.

Al Sharpton stated that people voted for Socialism because they voted for Obama! No wonder Obama's approval rating is sinking like the Titanic. Citizens are discovering just how far left this guy really is! Obama and his cronies in congress will spend us into oblivion. We cannot sustain the current rate of spending on entitlement programs. the next step will be to follow the European Solist model and implement a Federal Sales tax to be charged on top of the State and local sales taxes. Estimated are the Federal income tax will be as much as 10%. The leftist Socialists don't care as long as the non-producers are given the same standard of living as the producers. Is this what you want. I worked 60 to 80 hour weeks to make a decent living. Now I will be working at least half time for the takers!

Fifty-one percent of nuts who want to be dropped from their insurance carriers when they get sick, or even better, can't get insurance due to preexisting conditions. Please stop the Republicans from preying on these stupid people. Does anybody remember the nightmare we call George Bush, I mean Dick Cheney?

If nobama was attacked like President Bush was by the lame brained liberal media, his numbers would be alot lower. I guess the media is still trying to find all the 57 states nobama has visited.

Now CNN, you and rest of the US media can throw a big party. Mission accomplished by you and your impartial reporting. But not to worry. This is the information age, and the world watches everything America does. So not to worry.
