Romney on health vote: Obama 'betrayed his oath to the nation'

Mitt Romney is calling for President Obama’s health care plan to be repealed.
Mitt Romney is calling for President Obama’s health care plan to be repealed.

Washington (CNN) - Mitt Romney, who as governor of Massachusetts implemented a health care plan that some liken to the legislation just passed by Democrats in Washington, is calling for President Obama's plan to be repealed.

Romney, a potential 2012 presidential candidate, responded on Monday to the new health care legislation on the National Review's Web site. The president, he wrote, "has betrayed his oath to the nation" by failing to attract any Republican votes for the bill.

Romney's full statement after the jump:

"America has just witnessed an unconscionable abuse of power. President Obama has betrayed his oath to the nation – rather than bringing us together, ushering in a new kind of politics, and rising above raw partisanship, he has succumbed to the lowest denominator of incumbent power: justifying the means by extolling the ends. He promised better; we deserved better.

"He calls his accomplishment 'historic' – in this he is correct, although not for the reason he intends. Rather, it is an historic usurpation of the legislative process – he unleashed the nuclear option, enlisted not a single Republican vote in either chamber, bribed reluctant members of his own party, paid-off his union backers, scapegoated insurers, and justified his act with patently fraudulent accounting. What Barack Obama has ushered into the American political landscape is not good for our country; in the words of an ancient maxim, "what starts twisted, ends twisted."

"His health-care bill is unhealthy for America. It raises taxes, slashes the more private side of Medicare, installs price controls, and puts a new federal bureaucracy in charge of health care. It will create a new entitlement even as the ones we already have are bankrupt. For these reasons and more, the act should be repealed. That campaign begins today."

Yeah? Did he lie about WMD's to get us into a war that is draining this country of all our resources? An 'unconscionable abuse of power"??? Like calling any elected official that didnt support the Iraq War 'terrorist sympathisers' or 'unpatriotic'???

Can someone please spare us this crap!??!!!???

Our current Pretender & Chief has betrayed us from the start. Obama is nothing but smoke and mirrors. A empty suit who excels at one thing and that is lying better than any other politician.

Give me a break! Romney is a joke. Obama did what he said he would do when he ran for office. He put the people of America first. He's shown true leadership and he's accomplished a great goal for his administration.

When people realize this health reform isn't the big scary thing the Republicans have made it out to be, with all their lies, I hope they'll vote Democrat.

    Mitt,

What a ball of twat you are giving now. "Betray"-typical disruptive language from you guys-shame, shame, shame.

Why don't you go ask your Party's grownups if they can spend time on the nation's business instead of twaddling against health care reform for the next year?

You guys keep trying to distract us from the horrendous conditions your eight years left the country in-pretty successful for the past 14 months, I admit-but the trickery has cost us so much in time, money, livelihoods, ongoing lives, and untold casualties.

The Bill is bipartisan, 200 Republican amendments are in it..... Saying Obama broke any promises because the Republicans want him to fail is just ridiculous.

Isn't this the same thing that Enron exec's were charged with, playing with the numbers and falsfying doucments, not to mention bribery. Why is Obama and Pelosi any different. He's a 1 termer unless by the grace of god he is impeached.

The Republicans had every right to want to work with the President on this. From the get go the Republicans didn't want to give him an inch. Jim DeMint said they could make this his Waterloo. Grassley was out there ginning up the Tea Party folks talking about killing grandma. How can any rational person negotiate with people unwilling to negotiate? He did the right thing and will be rewarded for it.

Come on Romney – President Obama could bend over, hold his
ankles and NOT ONE REPUBLICAN OBSTRUCTIONIST would
vote for health care reform or many of our new President's
    initiatives.

Give it a break Romney – what a sore loser you are.

Congratulations to President Obama and the Democrats who
voted to move health care reform forward – we are very proud
of your good efforts to move our country forward.

I hope the next time it do not take him so long to betray you and your . I am so happy this bill has pass. How come Mitt Romney can have taxer money to pay for his Health Care and we middle class people can't. I hope he can get the chance to stand in line at the unemployment line soon.

I think Mitt has it wrong..There was a Republican vote for the Senate Healthcare bill when the Senate passed it. But I digress.. Who was it that said that the GOP were going to break President Obama and make HCR his waterloo? That set the stage for what the GOP had planned all along, OBSTRUCTION. I guess the GOP had their waterloo handed back to them on a platter. The only thing we can do is make this bill better, and we will. It's about time. If the GOP want to help with that, so be it. If not, get outta the way.

Way to kick the butts Obama, America will remeber this President for decades to come. To bad Bush was not on his game, I would have back him if he would have been for the people instead of the corporation.

Romney is correct. Obama is in the process of creating a huge slum out of the country. He will finish the destruction of America that was fueled by the Wal Street scum that actually thought they were owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in bonuses each for the "profit" created by the Government bail out.

This Mormon millionaire hasn't a clue about the struggles of average Americans. Ask him about the social structure of his LDS church. Give ten percent and redistribute it to the poor. Against stem cell, against abortion, but send your young sons and daughters to war for what? I hope this clown runs, we need to expose him for what he really is!
