Washington (CNN) – A Texas Republican acknowledged on Monday that he was the person who yelled "baby killer" during Sunday's House debate on health care reform.

Rep. Randy Neugebauer said he shouted out "'it's a baby killer' in reference to the agreement reached by the Democratic leadership" on compromise language that emphasized federal funds would not be used to pay for abortions.
Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak was on the House floor talking about the issue at the time of Neugebauer's outburst. Stupak was the leader of a group of anti-abortion rights Democrats who refused to back health care reform unless their concerns were addressed.
In a statement released by his office, Neugerbauer said that his comments have been misconstrued.
"Last night was the climax of weeks and months of debate on a health care bill that my constituents fear and do not support," he said. "In the heat and emotion of the debate, I exclaimed the phrase 'it's a baby killer' in reference to the agreement reached by the Democratic leadership. While I remain heartbroken over the passage of this bill and the tragic consequences it will have for the unborn, I deeply regret that my actions were mistakenly interpreted as a direct reference to Congressman Stupak himself.
"I have apologized to Mr. Stupak and also apologize to my colleagues for the manner in which I expressed my disappointment about the bill. The House Chamber is a place of decorum and respect. The timing and tone of my comment last night was inappropriate."

And sad to say, this is the truth about being baby killers
Geez, the reTUHGs cannot keep a civil tongue in their mouths! Would like to know how this guy supports the child after it is born, or is that up to the parents. Trouble with them they are only concerned about a fetus, after that let them all die.
Right Randy,
I TOTALLY believe what you are saying(sarcasm). So apparently, this is how you back away from the remark you made. Your mia culpa makes no sense in that the Bill is NOT a baby killer either. Wow, how totally bogus.
"Misconstrued"?
Give me a break. How the heck do you "miscontrue" someone shouting "baby killer"?
I vote that we return Texas to Mexico.
What a disgraceful liar. But then again, he is from Texas and as GW Bush has proven, everything is bigger in Texas. Bigger liars, bigger nut jobs and bigger ego's!
This guy should be demoted to a door greater at Walmart!
Not surprise he's from a southern state...............So do ya think the protesters where students in his and Sara Palin's etiquette class? When we resort to name calling is because we have nothing else to offer. So elementary.
So not only do you disrespect the House, you lie about what you actually said. "Its a" is NOT heard in the audio.
Im Pro Life but I don't want you representing me. You are the typical republican Hypocrite.
This is truly a sad sad day for America!! After witnessing the magnificent spirit of our children of tomorrow, and the anxiety for them to be involved in the magic that is taking place right now in this country, how can those older GOP members be so proud to carry themselves in such a shameless manner. They remind me of people living in the stone age.
Just another typical loser Republicant. This party has nothing to offer except whack jobs like Palin, Foxx, Bachman, dickless Cheney, grumpy mccain, you name it they got one in their party
what a loser this elected representative is.
Republicans have nothing left but wallowing in disgrace.
This comment was not "inappropriate" it was calculated to inflame passions and show his anti-abortion cred. This bill will lead to fewer abortions by expansion of health care not to mention the much needed life sustaining health care for people with pre existing conditions. it's time people realized the republican party is populated with small minded mean spirited people who substitute narrow religious belief, or cloak themselves in it, in lieu of compassion for their fellow Americans.
Oh and by the way, the email I just received from Choice Matters is equally as stupid. They too have little interest in the general welfare.
My new favorite congressman
Imagine that, a Texas Republican. Throw him off the edge of the Earth!
yea yea yea. why is it the republicans are always apoligizing for what they say instead of acting like the adults they are suppose to be!!! tired of the excuses after the fact. such good christian people....ha
Why is it that no one ever yells out "(It's a) woman killer!" when health care is refused or unaffordable for the myriad things that can go wrong as a result of pregnancy, or even the fact that we have a reproductive system that requires unique, lifelong care in order for us to continue the existence of the species? Why? Because we women put up with being forced to be secondary to both governance that marginalizes us and insurance companies that take advantage of us. It'll continue until we say "No more!"
Wilson, Bachmann, Neugebauer all trash. If they want to name call pull their party down even further let them do it. Anybody who would vote for these nitwits is a nitwit themself!
People are losing their minds, can we please stand up and declare this kind of behavior COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE at all times? Where are all the SANE people ready to get to work and find solutions to our problems??? Are we now a nation of screaming babies?
Rep. Randy Neugebauer:
You, sir, and the Republican Party are the REAL baby killers, because you are the ones denying American children and their parents healthcare!
Thousands of Americans die every year because they do not have healthcare!
So, Rep. Neugebauer, you & the Republicans are the real killers.
And his apology makes it ok? This guy should be fired exactly like anyone else would be if they yelled that at work.
Shame on him. Is this type of polititians that the american people wants?
He should resign. If he does not know how to behave......go home
say sorry all you want but the fact remains that you said it. right, wrong, mistaken for more than what it was, it was still your words.
Not all texans feel the same as this nut !!!!
I am completely disgusted by the Repulicans who continue to show their ignorance. You are nothing more than an embarrassment to the entire country. In November, I hope you join your friend Joe Wilson in the unemployment line for the way you conduct yourself.
What's next? A reprise of the caning of Senator Sumner?
Civility is the least we ought be able to demand from our
public servants as they go about the business of the public.
Disgraceful. And unworthy of our Great Republic.
