Patricia that's because there is medicare fraud, ask your republican rep to take care of it and see what answer they give you since they are interested in privatizing social security and medicaid. you need to be thankful for this bill your mother will be able to get "free" preventive care with no co-pay

I am a Canadian but I think that Americans are lucky to have a Pres
of Mr. Obama's calibre-a compassionate, intelligent and far thinking individual who has America's wellbeing at heart.
The Republicans should feel ashamed-and after all their shouting and screaming right from day one, to say that they were not consulted is over the top!!! The World watched them aghast at their stupidilty hypocrisy and vulgarity!!!!

Really, what have the Republicans done in the last decade or so to improve health care? No-thing, true to their just-say-no approach. The answer Bush had was, "They can go to the emergency room." Yeh sure, and thus raise costs for everyone. How can anyone call themself a Republican and also claim to be a Christian? No way!

it is finally nice to live in a country where the elected officials work for the people; I know it's hard for the repubs to accept change but they will either get on board or get left behind and write themselves out of American politics altogether; can anyone say Whig

Think again, your a liberal Democrat so what you call lies and distortion is actually known as the truth and facts. It is no wonder that almost all libs are atheists, you couldn't live with knowing that one day you would have to answer for infecting the world with your selfish, dishonest liberalism.

YAY!!! now i get to take care of everyone else- so much for me having a a family someday. I was saving for a kiddo or two, nice house, and a dog, guess the Government will be taking most of it away for the rest of the trailer trash. I guess most of you enjoy paying your taxes, heck since all of you seem to love taxes so much, pay for mine!!!

Give it time- you will see just how wrong this whole thing is!!! I have no idea where anyone would think that this is a good idea. Nothing is free and you get what you pay for. I have done research on other countries that have this type of health care and its NOT good. Doctors will do what they get paid to do- cheap work!

    Short replies to some comments:
    1. Nothing was rammed down anyone's throats. A majority of America's elected representatives voted for it and America's elected president signed it. That's democracy in action.

    2. Unemployment is now 9.7% (google it) and going down. Job creation is important too. You can count on Conservatives to oppose any and every effort to create decent jobs for middle class Americans. America's Conservative leadership has no interest in jobs. Labor is a cost, like taxes. For conservatives, taxes and wages should be as low as possible.

    3. Some of you illiterate lackwits need to actually look up the word socialism. You have no idea what it means. Calling Obama a socialist is like me calling Ronald Reagan a koala bear. It is not English. Well, it is a form of English that is spoken, I suppose, in Conservative ghettos, like Spanglish and Ebonics. We need a new word to describe it. I prefer "Conservospeak" myself. I invented the word, and I donate it free of charge to all English speakers.

This is a GREAT day for Americans.
Thank you Mr President for standing your ground and finally getting this done. 100 years of obstructionism beaten by a President and Congress who did not fall when the Republican lie machine and the Tea Party HATE group tried to stop them.
Thank you. Thank you, Thank you.

    Fantastic!!
In spite of the republicans irresponsible, hypocritical, unAmerican obstruction we can now move forward on health care for our country.
Course, they will continue with their lies, distortion, fear mongering, support of big business, sacrificing our country and us with their goals of win at any cost, destroy our president and party first, but the American people are not buying or accepting their path to destruction.

  22. A True Centrist

Yes, great work Mr. President. Congrats on passing a bill that 60% of Americans didn't want. Congrats on bribing members of your own party to get this through – I can't wait to start paying the fine people of Louisiana, California etc. Congrats on convincing Representatives to ignore public polls and their chances of being re-elected, admitting that they should ignore the will of their constituents. And finally, thanks President Obama for ensuring that I have to put up with a Republican majority come this time next year. We all know how well that worked out last time.

Washington is broken, and will continue to be broken until some of these knuckleheads who have been there for decades are booted out – aka Pelosi, Reid!

Today is a great day for progressives, democrats, and indeed Americans across the country. For 100 years we've been trying to institute a comprehensive health care program, and for 100 years we've failed. Until today.

This is not a perfect bill. There is no public option, and it's a far cry from a single payer system that I would prefer, but it's a start. Eventually everybody will forget the controversy, and remember the benefits.

And finally, this bill is not unconstitutional. The general welfare clause and the regulation of interstate commerce allow for the congress to do this terrible thing – to catch us up to the rest of the civilized world.

  24. Jesus(the Zombie version)

    Hello Benchwarmers.

How does it feel to completely sit out on one of the biggest reforms of our time?

All for the sake of trying to tear the President down.

And yet you idiots will continue to support the Republican party that instead of entering the debate with useful ideas decided to bluff and say start over.

So don't get mad at this bill because it doesn't have what you want in it. Get mad because Republicans could have put things you wanted in it but decided instead to play politics with reform.

Republicans lose all the way. I'll bet no one questions the amount of tax dolars states will spend trying to repeal this bill all for the sake of political show. Because the Constitution already states Federal law trumps state law.

Any first year freshman lawyer can see these lawsuits are for the elections, yet taxpayers pay for it.

    Where's your voice on that?

Too busy demonizing something that is law?

It would be odd if Republicans asked their congressman to just let it go and start working on jobs bills, this time ACTUALLY PUTTING INPUT INTO THESE BILLS THEY HATE SO MUCH.
