In Web video, Neugebauer says he'll continue to speak out

'I'm never going to quit speaking on behalf of the unborn,' Rep. Neugebauer says in a Web video.
'I'm never going to quit speaking on behalf of the unborn,' Rep. Neugebauer says in a Web video.

Washington (CNN) – Rep. Randy Neugebauer, the Texas Republican who sparked controversy when he yelled out 'baby killer' on the House floor Sunday night, is not backing down from his vocal opposition to abortion.

"I'm never going to quit speaking on behalf of the unborn," Neugebauer says in a Web video posted on his campaign Web site.

Referring to his outburst, the Republican also says, "And I will continue to speak with the same passion that I did last night, maybe with a little bit different form, but still with the same intensity."

The video is embedded on the Web page http://www.randyforcongress.com, just above large red button that says "Donate Today."

The congressman thanks his supporters in a note below the video player.

"Thank you for your support and contributions as I stand firm in my commitment against the government takeover of healthcare and for protecting the sanctity of life," he writes.

As Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Michigan, delivered a speech Sunday night on the contentious issue of whether the health care reform bill would allow for federal funds to be used for abortions, someone shouted out "baby killer," from the Republican side of the aisle. It was unclear until Monday afternoon who yelled out.

The outburst was immediately interpreted as being directed at Stupak, who staunchly opposes abortion and who led a coalition of anti-abortion rights Democrats that threatened to withhold their support for the health care bill over the issue of abortion funding. Stupak and his like-minded Democrats reached an agreement with the White House on the issue, thus assuring that there would be the necessary 216 votes to pass the bill. Stupak was explaining the terms of the deal when the "baby killer" outburst occurred.

In a statement released Monday, Neugebauer acknowledged that that he was the person who yelled "baby killer." But the Texas Republican said he shouted out "'it's a baby killer' in reference to the agreement reached by Stupak's Democratic coalition.

Neugebauer reiterated his frustration about the agreement reached between the White House and House Democrats in his video.

"Not only did we see the government takeover of your health care, but we saw the lives of unborn children used as a bargaining chip to somehow get the needed votes to pass this legislation," he says.

I'm ambivalent on abortion, but I admire his not doing the disavowal two-step.

If you feel sure about what you did, don't apologize. It makes you look weak, and only earns you the contempt of your opponents. Whites in particular need to understand this, since they typically have more of a need to "be nice" and smooth over hurt feelings, even at the expense of their own honor. Non-whites, OTOH, seem to have no such compunction.

since he actually said "it's a baby killer" don't you think you should change the first paragraph to read differently so it is not so OBVIOUSLY slanted with political opinion?

As far as I am concern Neugenbauer used a child to get what he want. He do not care about anyone but him self.

Oh, please keep it up. And please encourage the attorney generals to sue all the states. And please keep on having ugly tea parties and making fun of people with parkinson's disease and spitting on congressmen. Because nothing scares me more than a government run by Cheney, Boehner and Cantor.

sir – you are allowed your beliefs without doubt. If you don't want to be considered a disgrace – you might want to find a better way to express them.

    SPIN-MEISTER

Look how Neugebauer spin this issue. No one is asking Neugebauer to shut up! They are telling him to show respect to a fellow Congressman. After all, a Congressman is expected to be a role model for character and professionalism.

The issue is Neugebauer's unprofessional decorum and respect for a fellow Congressman in the sanctity of the nation's house of law-making.

will this man also support welfare for when the mother of the unborn in question, is unable to support her child or if god forbid there is something wrong with the unborn? or if she is forced to marry the father because of ridiculous concern about judgment on her behalf?
abortion should not be used as birth control but people are fighting for their CHOICE in a very confusing and personal time for the woman in question..

Typical bully. Republicans. Think they own the world, don't care about the people in this country. Why does this guy think he has the right to scream and whine and jump up and down with his views. He was elected to represent the people in his district not DO WHAT THE HADES HE WANTS. But then that's the reasoning of republicans I AM THE ONE!! THE DEVIL WITH MY DISTRICT.

Funny, he wasn't yelling out "baby killer" when babies were being blown to hell over in Iraq or wherever. Attach "war" to the event and all is good. Millions of innocent living and breathing people, including babies, dead and gone and it's, "oh well". But terminate the pregnancy of an UNBORN, NOT LIVING, POTENTIAL HUMAN and it's the end of the world. What a bunch or ignorant asses. Nobody is celebrating an abortion but in many instances it's unfortunately the best thing to do. And if GOD has a problem with it I guess the people doing it will have to answer to him not any buffoon here on this earth.
