Obama to sign health care reform into law, then promote it on the road

Washington (CNN) - President Obama will sign sweeping health care reform legislation into law at the White House on Tuesday.

Obama also will hit the road to sell the measure to a still-skeptical public, giving a speech Thursday in Iowa City, Iowa, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said. Obama launched his grass-roots drive for health care reform in Iowa City in May 2007, according to Gibbs.

The bill, which constitutes the biggest expansion of federal health care guarantees in more than four decades, passed the House of Representatives late Sunday night with no Republican support. It was approved by the Senate in December.

A separate compromise package of changes also passed the House on Sunday and still needs to be approved by the Senate. The officials noted that the Senate cannot begin debate on the package before Obama signs the underlying bill into law.

If this were Bush he'd promptly take a 4 week vacation after signing the bill into law.

Can anyone out there help me to understand this: Is it possible to challenge any law which is already in implementation. Is the health law different from any other law?

Congratulations, Mr. President. I am so proud of you and so proud of being an American. You are a man of dignity, compassion, inclusion, fairness, and intelligence and by being all those things, you lift us up as a nation. May God bless you, your family and all those Americans who know the value of lifting all to make American a better place, rather than destroying it through their hatred, intolerance and pettiness.

"Selling" the snake oil after he signs it into law. The "Candy Coating" Tour is about to begin. Typical behavior of an empty suit – Obama doesn't even know everything that is in the bill. Neither do many of the lemmings that voted inn the House in favor of the bill.

I assume this "tour" will be fully staged and any dissent trampled by Obama's jack booted thugs.

  10. Waterboarding the Republicans WORKED!

This is the best day I've seen since Obama was elected by the American majority! The prick bastard Rephuqagain (small "p") party did everything with what little power they had – AND THEY FAILED! Glory to GOD in the highest! God is good and he chose Barack Obama to straighten out the disastrous results and wrong direction we were headed into. And oh, by the way, the only majority who disapproves of Obama is the majority of Republicans! But the American people decided in Nov 2008 that the Republicans don't count and certainly do not represent what the majority of Americans believe in and will fight in the streets for – freedom from ass wipes like Glen Beck, Race Limbaugh, Nuisannce Getrich, Senator Limp Boehner, Dickhead KAching$$$$ Cheney and Jarge Bahoooooooosh.

    Obama-Biden in 2012!!!!!!

  14. An 8 year old ELEPHANT dung heap, does not transform into compost in just 1 year!

God bless you President Obama you have done something no President has been able to accomplish in the last 40 years, health care for 32 million working class Americans!

It was also telling that NOT ONE republiKKKan speech Sunday gave two hoots about constituents just that the number one party of NO agenda was to make you “fail”.

Well they “failed” I am both glad and proud to say that you did what is morally right ands won against bold faced selfish greed as advocated by the Rabid Riech.

Also, a win for the American people will definitely give the Dems a club to beat up on the Reds in November.

It will be interesting to see how in the months running up to November, the cons spin that they voted NO for keeping kids on their parent's plans until they are 26, voted NO to prevent the continued process of allowing insurers to dismiss medical insurance and a NO vote to prevent discrimination against folks with pre-existing conditions.

How they voted NO and would deny both pre and post-natal care to those precious zygotes they proclaim to care so much about. Voted NO to prevent well baby care from reaching the working poor single mothers. Voted NO on closing the donut hole in Medicare for Seniors.
Voted against the middle class and for their "god" money

Rove and Newt will really twist themselves into a pretzel trying to explain that one! Every time they turn around there will be a Dem ad reminding the citizenry!

I want the Dems to be able to paint the entire party of NO as just that. That way the point can be made there is not a shred of compassion in the hearts of even one republiklan.

I will chuckle every time Dem candidates remind America that the Reds were looking out for 31 insurance companies, while the Dems were looking out for 31 million working poor Americans!!!

Running on the Party of NO platform to alienate 32 million voters is fine with me, your only filling up a revival tent now, and this brilliant campaign strategy will turn it into a parasol, to protect you from the sun at the KKK rallies in the Southern states!

You tea bagging clowns have underestimated the political savvy of President Obama and did it at your own peril. Your party has now been painted into a corner by an “empty suited community organizer”!

Of course, your party is either too stupid or arrogant to realize just what you will have to explain to the American electorate since your still screaming "socialist" and "baby killer".

I think I envision ABBA‘s "Waterloo" as the background music for some of those Dem ads.

Next voting opportunity, I will vote all Republican! I am disgusted with the socialist party democrats–they sure know how to spend–just can't seem to get the budget figured out–so they send the US over the deep end–stagnation, unemployed, broke-

Pardon me, but isn't this backwards? Aren't our "representatives" supposed to get our input before a bill becomes law? Makes me wonder why it's so important to get it enacted before we are fully informed of its provisions . . . hmmm . . . .

I have now heard enough from Mr. Obama. I listened during the elections, I voted for him, I gave him a chance. He thanked us by taking money out of our checks during hard times so he can buy free healthcare for Welfare recipients and illegal immigrants. I don't care to hear anything else the man has to say, and he will not get another vote on anything in his favor from me on anything. I think much of the country feels this way.

I think if Bill Clinton also take's to the roads and promote's this people will listen. With Obama some people won't even give him a chance sadly because we as a nation just haven't moved on from our prejudice's, the young crowd has but the old idiots just can't learn to look passed and look at the substance.

What the Republicans plan to do is what McCain said yesterday, "That they (GOP) will not work with Obama and his administration the rest of the year"......so what's new they haven't worked with this administration yet......remarks like this and the protesters that yelled racial remarks and spit on one of the House members Sunday, the Senator from Texas that yelled "BABY KILLERS" shows the low class of the GOP and the people that are their followers....The GOP is not for the American people or this Country they are all for trying to win back seats for their Party....that's all they care about.....they wanted this Health Care to Fail, they tried Fear and Scare and stonewalling every chance they had.......remember Republicans the so-called-party of Christrians.......you Will REAP WHAT YOU SOW.......you want failure for this President but your actions and lack of working with this Administration will bring FAILURE UPON YOURSELVES AND YOUR PARTY

We can be really stupid sometimes. This is one of them. We voted this man in to give us Healthcare reform. He gives it to us, and some of us are spitting on people and yelling crap like it was 1960 all over again.

He could be working on the next item on his agenda: jobs for and in America. But we're acting like we don't have the good sense that God gave us. Oh well.

How about them Rethugs wasting money on going to court over this. Your 15 minutes were up November 4th, 2008. Time to move on.....

WOW!!! This is just too much to absorb. I went to bed last night after watching a little news, and I came to one conclusion, when you do wrong you are paid back ten fold. Now I understand why so many Woosy Dimocrats voting for this healthcare sh–t, I believe one hundred percent that Obama promised each of them "40 acres and a MULE!!! Just like that empty headed woman says Obama is going to give them (the blacks) money, she did not know where it would come from other than Obamas STASH!!!, wow, it is those kind of MORONS
that has deflated a country. Maybe they should have been left in
africa, they should be thankful for what the white man did for them, If anyone should be upset it should be the American Indians, but, look what they have done, they make their life happy, they just want to be left alone before they become as corrupted as the ungrateful blacks
Betty. Hey STUPEK how do you feel now??>????

Congratulations, Mr. President! I totally support you and the great work you do for our country! It's a shame that there are so many (Republican) losers in this country... Any team, or country, is only as strong as its weakest link; the more we can do to build up and help the disenfranchised among us, the better we as a nation are. God bless the President and his family!

He can give his speeches at the local ACORN offices. Oops, my bad there is no more ACORN and by November no more liberal Dems in Congress. Amen.
I see Teddy Kennedy's widow says his life long ambition has been realized. Evidently, the bill contains funding for booze and women.

Pat Caddell, who was a key democrat strategist under President Clinton pointed out that the party has stopped listening to the people and have moved away from being hte "people's party". They will suffer in November.
