Washington (CNN) - The 20 Republican members of Texas' congressional delegation have signed a letter to Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison urging her not to resign her Senate seat – something she pledged to do during her unsuccessful bid for governor.
"We understand your desire to go home to Texas and spend more time with your family," the congressmen wrote in the letter obtained by CNN. "But we hope you realize how necessary your continued service in the U.S. Senate is, for Texas and for country."
Co-signers of the letter include Reps. Pete Sessions, Joe Barton, Jeb Hensarling, Ron Paul, Kevin Brady and Kay Granger.

Though she repeatedly vowed to resign her Senate seat during the Republican gubernatorial primary - which pitted her against Gov. Rick Perry and GOP activist Debra Medina - Hutchison never offered a detailed timeline as to when she might step down, saying only that she planned to remain in Washington as long as Republicans were fighting Democratic efforts at health care reform.
Hutchison and her staff have remained mum on her plans since Perry defeated her in the Republican primary earlier this month. Now that President Obama has signed health care reform into law, it would appear that Hutchison's fight against the legislation has come to an end.
But if Hutchison chooses to stay in the Senate, her GOP colleagues in the House are giving her cover.
"We, as Republican members of the Texas delegation to Congress, pledge to you that, if you will stay and fight, we will stay and fight alongside you," they wrote.
Hutchison's term expires in 2013.
Ok, now for a change keep a promise you made to Texans and Americans. Resign!
Must be nice to try to get to be governor, after announcing your Senate resignation, and then after you get hammered in the election, you decide to go back to the Senate, where you can continue to take credit for bills you had nothing to do with in the first place other than voting for them. It must be hard to be an ex-East Texas cheerleader, eh, Kay?
Another Texas moron with a bag full of special interest money heading off to her island hideout and tax free haven. We will rid our state one at a time.
Go ahead..resign. They will find somebodyelse to follow party line orders and vote NO. It will be simple to replace you. We all know how to say NO.
Why all the carrying on? Texas Republicans certainly can't be worried about holding that seat.
I don't agree with Hutchison on much, but I respect her for her integrity. She should do herself a favor and cut lose from the wacko tea-baggers that populate the Republican party now. She is too good for this lower species of politician, and she knows it. They will only drag her down.
"We, as Republican members of the Texas delegation... pledge to you... if you stay and fight, we will stay and fight alongside you".
I'm sure that makes her feel ALOT better! LOL!
She says she resigns to be with her family, but in reality she sees the writing on the wall. The Republican Party is working itself towards irrelevence and she wants no part of it.
As long as the republicans embrace the mentally-ill as their leaders (ala Rush, Glenn), I'm sure we'll see many more member retirements.
Sarah resigned, i.e. quit. Why not Kay? It's the Republican thing to do. Just say "No" to your responsibility like "No" to any new legislation.
If she does go against her pledge, I'm looking forward to the explanation of how that is different from the Republicans' complaints of Obama going against his pledges.
"Now that President Obama has signed health care reform into law, it would appear that Hutchison's fight against the legislation has come to an end."
This fight is just beginning, and it will end poorly for progressives such as yourself, Hamby.
THey should all resign.
please stay to fight the liberal idiots that are in congress and passed this pile of crap legislation.
This is a very interesting statement . I mean after all they said during the campaign that she was to Washington. Now that they drug her through the mud they now want her to stay.
If all the rupukes resign this country would be a better place...I supply the pens...
Let me get this straight......we passed a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it, passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it, to be signed by a president who also hasn't read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes, all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's broke.
What could possibly go wrong????
She promised to resign, so let her resign. Sure Perry will appoint a right wing idiot as temporary Senator until a special election can be held, but when that election comes around Texas could vote for a Democrat, and we could start getting rid of this Republican pestulance.
Thats ok go home to the family. We need new blood in the senate that will not be a GOP senator !
She should keep this campaign promise!
Aww! ...Please Don't Go! ...Whatever! HypocriCNNation Continues Once Again With The Sarah Palin (The Witless Wonder Bra Of Wasila!) Brown Nosing Admiration Society/Wolf "Hound" Blitzer Fan Club.
Stay until the clowns are gone.
Another Republican promise......we all know what they are worth!
Don't let those Republicans tell you what to do Kay. You promised to resign and we know that you are a woman of your word! You hang in there, girl, and don't let a bunch of old men tell you what to do. Resign!
She never intended to resign. Here in Texas we have always known that. Texas politicians don't know anything BUT politics. If they had to go out, get a job and pay for their own healthcare, most of them would be DEMOCRATS!
