FBI investigating Perriello incident in Virginia

The FBI is investigating a 'suspicious incident' at the home of Rep. Tom Perriello's brother.
The FBI is investigating a 'suspicious incident' at the home of Rep. Tom Perriello's brother.

Washington (CNN) - Days after his address was posted online by a Virginia Tea Party activist, the FBI and local law enforcement officials are investigating a "suspicious incident" at the home of Rep. Tom Perriello's brother.

A line to the propane tank on his brother's gas grill had been "severed," an aide to the Democratic congressman told CNN.

"It was enough that he could smell the gas," the aide said.

The Albemarle County Fire Marshal's office confirmed they are investigating the incident - which took place in Ivy, Virginia - along with the FBI.

"While officials are not willing to characterize the exact nature of the incident because of the ongoing investigation, it did not involve an immediate threat to occupants of the residence," Lee Catlin, Community Relations Director for the Fire Marshal, told CNN. "However officials are taking the incident very seriously and conducting a vigorous investigation. Additional details will be released as the investigation continues."

Catlin said county officials joined the investigation late Tuesday after a request from the FBI.

Politico reported Monday that a Tea Party activist in Lynchburg, angry over Perriello's vote in favor of health care reform legislation, had posted the address of Perriello's brother online and encouraged other activists to "stop by" and weigh in on the bill. The activist had apparently meant to post the congressman's home address but mistakenly published his brother's.

Perriello, who represents Virginia's conservative-leaning 5th congressional district, encompassing central and southern parts of the state. He was narrowly elected to his first term in 2008 and is considered one of the most vulnerable House Democrats in 2010.

On Wednesday, Perriello's office issued the following statement:

“My number one priority right now is ensuring the safety of my brother’s family, and I am grateful to law enforcement for their excellent work. While it is too early to say anything definitive regarding political motivations behind this act, it’s never too early for political leaders to condemn threats of violence, particularly as threats to other Members of Congress and their children escalate. And so I ask every member of House and Senate leadership to state unequivocally tonight that it is never OK to harm or threaten elected officials and their families with anything more than political retribution. Here in America, we settle our political differences at the ballot box.”

The inevitable right-wing violence and terror is starting. They have been chummed up into such a wild feeding frenzy of hate that violence is the unavoidable outcome. Expect it to get worse.

The tea party racists and the limbaugh sheep and the religious extremisits of the right should start wearing brown shirts, because that is who they are acting like.

America is headed for some dark times.

Republican/Conservative political rhetoric of hatred and violence doesn't always fall on deaf ears it would appear. This is not the American way!

A read of Saul Alinsky's book rules for radicals which is the playbook for the Democrat party will point them in the right direction, just like the DNC headcorders bombing in Colorado by a national socialist of the Democrat party.

Just another example of the Republican childish backward behavior. This time it is life threatening really. What would make them stop and get themselves educated about issues – for someone to actually die? These tea baggers are pathetic. Ignorance fuels fear and this type of conduct. Be it on congress floor or on the street.

The Justice Department will bring the full force of law down on EVERY Republican that has incited aggression and violence at "so-called" tea party rallies.

I will do everything in my power to hold the likes of Ms Palin, Mr. Boehner, Mr. McConnel, Newt Gingrinch, Rush Limbaugh, RESPONSIBLE for any destruction of PROPERTY, physical ASSAULTs, or DEATHS that can be tied to their words.

These things have caught my eye and I'm sure others as well.

    - Kill him .... yelled during the McCain/Palin campaign

    - Kill the bill ... yelled during this last week's fake demonstrations (with a picture of the President sitting up in a coffin.)

    - Bricks being thrown through windows at Democratic Representatitives offices with notes saying that next time they'll be shooting up the place with rifles.

    - Palin inciting riotious behavior telling folks to RELOAD and TARGET Democratic Representatives using a graphic that includes rifle cross hairs.

Lock these cowards up and put them in the cell with Mustafa.

    To all Tea-Party Activists:
If you are interested in small-government, libertarian philosophy, I'd encourage you to look into Ayn Rand. She's probably the best person to read if you feel strongly about small government. Read the Fountainhead and her Capitalism book.
The hero in Atlas Shrugged is a pacifist (without actually saying so), because he values individual rights. Violence and discrimination are detrimental to these rights. Small government is merely a corollary of this non-violence. Killing someone in the name of 'small government' makes me think you an enemy of the values that small government people champion in the first place.
For the record, I support our president.
Big government, small government, it's the values that matter. People want to look out for each other, and people want individual liberties too. It's a balance, and we just need to pay attention.
Do your homework before you start killing people. Get smart.

The Right and the Extreme Right have lost it. Because they are not in control, they decide to become war like and to go out and harm or possibly kill people because they do not get what they want. Our country is a country of laws. It is based on the will of the majority. People should steer those pent up angers to changing the minds of voters so as to be able to have a majority in the next election. For them to possibly injure or even kill people because they have a position that is different from your own goes against the very fabric on which our nation was founded.

So basically, the GOP runs around sporting tinfoil hats, and the Dems need to run around wearing flak jackets. Lovely.

Can't wait to see what the pseudo-militia weekend daycamp warriors manage to pull off first. It's what we get as a society for sitting idley by while the GOP enrages the right wing lunatic fringe with falsehoods, misdirection, demogoguery and ideological blather. "Death panels," alleged threats to gun rights that have NEVER materialized, the astro-turf Teatard nonsense, using language purposefully intended to echo the American Revolution and Civil War (tea parties, secession, states' rights, etc.) or echoing WWII and the Cold War 1950's (HItler and Nazi references, socialism, communism, Stalin, marxism, the list goes on) and playing up religious social conservatives' not-so-secret wish for a fascist theocratic state....all of it vastly increases the risk of these extremist jerks trying to hurt people and the GOP knows it. They INTEND it. Just wait. When these acts occur, and I guarantee you they will...after all, it's a mid-term election year and we just passed "sweeping" reform of health care that they all think is "soshulizms"...you won't see even one GOPer deliver condemnation of them in a manner that allows any sane, reasonable and rational person to take him or her seriously. They're utterly terrible at hiding their smirks.

With member of the Republican party screaming, calling names and threatening other member of Congress, how else would you expect the lunatic fringes to act?
Liike children mimmicking thier parents, the extremsit see these sort of action as OK.

Is this how we do things in America now? Or is this how we do things in "Real America?" Thank you Palin and all of you radical conservatives for begginning the destruction of America. My America where we reason, compromise and work together. Not the "Real America" where we threaten our opponents to achieve our goals.

Down with conservative radicals! Down with christian conservative radicals!

Rethugs and Tea partiers and that Drug addled Gas Bag Rush (has he left for Costa Rica yet? He should be long gone since we have Health Care Reform now!!!), Hannity, Beck, Palin, should be ashamed, all the hate they incite is disgusting. May each and everyone these "leaders" burn in hell for eternity when it is time to answer to the lord at the gates of heaven.

These people should be held accountable for every act the moronic idiots that listen to them engage in. They have got to realize the level of mentality of the people that listen to them have. I mean none of those people can be very smart, if they were, they wouldn't be listening to these bumbling fools in the 1st place!
