House members report increased threats since health care vote

Washington (CNN) - House Democrats are concerned about their security due to increased threats since Sunday's vote to pass the health care bill, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Wednesday.

Hoyer told a news conference that "a significant number, meaning over 10," had reported either threats, vandalism or other incidents.Capitol police officials have briefed House Democrats on reporting suspicious or threatening activity and taking precautions to avoid "subjecting themselves or their families to physical harm," said Hoyer, D-Maryland.

Earlier Wednesday, the Albemarle County Fire Marshal's Office in Virginia confirmed the FBI was investigating a suspicious incident at the home of Virginia Democratic Rep. Tom Perriello's brother, days after the brother's home address was posted online by a Tea Party activist.

An aide to Perriello told CNN that a line to the propane tank on his brother's gas grill had been severed.

I live outside Chicago and my neighbor across the street is one of those racist hateful, where'd my white America go people. I was thinking last night – why do the people who proclaim themselves to be true Christians turn around and do extremely un Christian things. Health Care for example. I think Jesus wants us to help the poor but these Christian Republicans say screw the poor people with no health care, I got mine so screw everybody else. I don't understand why these people don't see their party is all about corporations hidden inside phoney reteric. I'm not even a proclaimed Christian but I try to be a good person. These people are sad.

All Americans need to speak out against those that are threatening the House Democrats, or threatening anyone. This is a CRIME and decent Americans WILL NOT STAND FOR IT. We are a Civilized Society and WILL NOT LIVE BY MOB RULE.

What do you expect when the radical right is manipulating ignorant gun-totin' paranoid nutjobs to "stand up for their rights"?

When they they denigrate "patriotism" to the level of a spoiled 5 year old by winking at destroying property, threatening people, spitting on them and calling them vile names?

When these looney-tunes see their own "leaders" transparently pandering with cynically crafted "emotional outbursts" interrupting the President of the United States? The very office that a short while ago they were crying to anyone who would listen that them commie libruls "weren't respecting"?

Front page news! Show those people for what and who they are!! Their ancestors were probably wearing brown shirts in Germany during the 30's. And they call themselves "patriots".........just as the brown shirts did.

The GOP (Grand Opposition Party) has incited hate and the Tea party has incited fear and this is what comes from all the lies and hate. These Republicans, Sarah Palin, Limbaugh,Beck, Hannity, Bachmann all sit on their piles of money that have made by spreading hate, fear and lies. What a great country when you can get all your cult members to do your criminal deeds, while you count your cash.

Democrats may have verbally trashed Bush & Co. over their disasterous 8 years in office, but there were never physical threats or intimidation. The GOP and their Tea Party have become America's Taliban. We ought to consider treating them like terrorists. They hate America, and only want to bring chaos to the political process.

There were predictions weeks ago that since this was going to be so close that the Democrats would begin manufacturing false reports of threats. Appears as if that has begun.

    Of course they are concerned.
The opposition have become refractory to logic and truth, so all its needed is an idiot with a gun and there's a 'patriot act' (for the crackpots like Repent Amarillo) or an abject act of treason (for the rest of the US CITIZENS) to happen!

When Bush was president it was chic on the part of the smart set (Dems, Hollywood, CNN types) to favor his assasination. But CNN never gave it a headline like this.

Does anyone else see the irony in Limbaugh and Beck screaming "fascist! fascist!" while their 'officially unaffiliated' brownshirts engage in intimidation and (now it appears with the Perriello incident) actions that clearly cross the line from free speech into criminal action? I am gravely concerned that the flames these mouthpieces are fanning will soon be beyond their control. I am forced to wonder: if even one person (average citizen or politician) suffers physical harm as a result of these irresponsible tactics . . . will Rush and Glen stand up and admit that they are the true enemies of democracy?

What an incredibly sad commentary on Americans.
How pathetic it is to first of all want to deny every American decent health care coverage.
But more importantly, how pathetic that we as human beings would suggest resorting to physical violence just because we disagree with someone.
Truly a sad commentary on the loss of civility as human beings.

Domestic terrorisms warrants a swift and powerful response from the Secret Service and FBI. If we can lock up teenagers for a few years for possession of a half pound of marijuana we should lock up those that threaten our government for decades.

If someone is harmed, this idiot as well as the the Republicans (Rush Limbaugh, Hanity, and the like) should be sued for inciting violence!!!

The prelude was Palin whipping up the mob with her "terrorist" comments. It's the incivility at town meetings. It's guns brought to events where President Obama is speaking.

Notice that most of the threatened violence is against Democrats. Someone is going to get killed and the right-wing "entertainers" who enjoy great ratings (huge bucks) for encouraging hatred had better watch their inflamed rhetoric. Not all the people who listen to them have elevators that go all the way to the top!

More instances of domestic terrorism...when will the news media and the law enforcement admit that flying planes into IRS buildings, shooting federal officers, and other acts of violence and intimidation toward the governement and government officials by American citizens is terrorism and respond accordingly?

All that is absent here are the lions and tigers and other assorted beasts of the earth in an amphitheater venue like the Roman Coliseum with the RNC being the Romans and the Dems as the Christians. But in this day and age, the RNC would be selling PSLs.

This is predictable. From the beginning of President Obama's campaign against John McCain the rhetoric forward from the right has escalated to the degree that insult and vilification of President Obama has reached historic heights.

It's not hard to make the assumption that the idea of having a man of color in the "White" House is the underlying impetus to this madness. This, now, translates into violence towards those who have voted for legislation that allows the President to fulfill the hallmark promise of his campaign. Imagine that! – against all odds – the President kept his word!
