House members report increased threats since health care vote

Washington (CNN) - House Democrats are concerned about their security due to increased threats since Sunday's vote to pass the health care bill, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said Wednesday.

Hoyer told a news conference that "a significant number, meaning over 10," had reported either threats, vandalism or other incidents.Capitol police officials have briefed House Democrats on reporting suspicious or threatening activity and taking precautions to avoid "subjecting themselves or their families to physical harm," said Hoyer, D-Maryland.

Earlier Wednesday, the Albemarle County Fire Marshal's Office in Virginia confirmed the FBI was investigating a suspicious incident at the home of Virginia Democratic Rep. Tom Perriello's brother, days after the brother's home address was posted online by a Tea Party activist.

An aide to Perriello told CNN that a line to the propane tank on his brother's gas grill had been severed.

All these "Right Wing Nuts" like the individual in Albemarle County, Virginia (egged on by a Tea Party Activist Site) and the nut case outside of Birmingham, Alabama who is telling everyone to commit vandalism and is now telling everyone to clean their guns should all be locked up. This definately goes beyond the First Amendment Rights of citizens. This is just plain insane!!!!!

Latest polls showed that 49% of Americans agree on what Obama is trying to do with the Health Care problem. There were 40% who were againist this. I just cannot understand how stupid the latter group is. I wonder how many of the 40% are Republicans?

I have a feeling that this is going to break the Republican Party...Universal Healthcare has been successfully installed in all developped countries in the world. It is going to succeed in the US as well. When that happens, watch out...the two party sys will not be there. There will be a huge Democratic Party and a bunch of small insignificant, angry white men & women running around killing each other!

    Trust me on this.

I do not agree with death threats against these people and violence is not the answer, however what they have done by not listening to the American people and running their destructive agenda through as they did, has millions of people fighting mad. It seems everyone on the streets is raging against this piece of legislation and what it will do to the nation.Maybe they need to listen closer.Everyone needs to calm down and let the fight be in the voting booth.Instead of threats, take action and vote the ones that voted for this bill out of office in 2010 and 2012.

I guess that means a white sale is going to be on at JC Pennys this weekend. Some people are going to be out shopping instead of saving their money for a BETTER cause! These people are getting repudiately redundant and monotonous. Where have peoples morals and values gone!!!...Sam

Just goes to show you the true colors of these people...racist, violent, evil, and hateful. Keep it up and Obama will be the President again in 2012-16 no matter how bad you hate him.

It seen to me like the republicans are trying to start a civil war. They need to work for ALL americans, not just the wealthy . Oh what ever happened to the money that came up missing from Iraq while on there watch ? They had control of the White Houes for 8 yrs. so much money unaccounted for in the bank bail out. All they are doing is trying to put fear in the people about the health care bill. They should put more effort in being a little fair. Instead of being the NO party.

So sad, and horrifying. To think that people elected to represent the interests of all of us have to be afraid to do their jobs, to vote for what they think is right for the country, and to have to live in fear for themselves and their families- This is a form of terrorism and it should not be allowed to fester in a free society.

This is unfortunate. But my vote against anyone who had anything to do with this lousy legislation is not a threat. It is a promise. I can't wait to get to the polls in November, just like everyone I know.

If this violence becomes a trend I sure hope law enforcement has the guts to track down these cowards and thrown them in jail. It doesn't matter what their politics – terrorism is terrorism and I've always believed that the greatest terrorist threat in the United States is the home grown variety.

These are some really sad, pathetic people making these threats.

This whole thing is being blown out of proportion.

According to someone I know very closely who is an insurance broker this bill will be good for most people.

It takes this for them to be concerned with "The American way of life." I'm afraid that the tax-paying people doing these things do not want the Government controlling other aspects of their lives. That is anti-American. It is not the proper response, but their voices are not being heard.

No matter your viewpoint on the debacle, violence is NOT the answer. Using the power of your vote IS.

Come November, there will be less Progressives in Congress.

  17. OMG These people are NUTS

Have these so called Tea Partiers forgotten that this IS a democratic country, meaning that the government was lawfully elected by the people of this country. If they don't agree with the results of the election, well good for them. That's their right. But it doesn't change the fact that just because they disagree with policy that they have the right to threaten, intimidate, or harass the people that they disagree with. I hope that all threats are reported to the proper authorities and these people are arrested and punished to the full extent of the law. The democrats being threatened have to stop being the nice guys and trying to defuse the situation by telling authorities to just let them go. It's time for common sense to come back to the people of this country.

The Timothy McVeighs of the world are starting to step up.

We the people need to be vigilant against these domestic terrorists. Remember, just because these idiots are screaming the loudest and threatening us, doesn't make them right. They are desperate because they know normal non-ideologues are going to end up liking most of what's in this bill, which in time is going to cost them politically.

    I don't believe you.

All you idiots in Congress do, and I mean both parties when I say that, is attempt to spin up stories and mislead the voters by misrepresenting facts, demonizing the other party and their followers.

If I were to listen to you, I would have to accept that everyone that follows Obama must be a pinko commie, while everyone that votes Republican must be a right wing Ruby Ridge freak.

None of you deserve to be members of Congress !

Te republicans are looking really bad. They lost ugly and the continued denial of reality and the ugly threats just makes them look really, really bad. People don't respect poor losers.

McCain, he lost with great grace.. and in that moment it reminded all of us why we liked him. Maybe not his ugly base though. The republicans are not longer a dignified party that inspires greatness. It's sad. The republicans seem like the chicken little party. They always rave how the sky is about to fall. They seem crazy and mean.

The Democrats lost lots if battles in the past and I don't recall them acting as these riotous, rage-infested folk do. I am sure those very folk will the first ones to need help with this new health plan. If nothing else, they will have to be treated for their mental health. Of course, jail would be better for these vicious souls.

The Republicans, the insurance industry and Fox news can take credit for these threats and acts of violence. They were successful at creating hatred and spreading misinformation. Unfortunately, these disgraceful tactics work do with a certain segment of the population.
