Perriello responds to incident at brother's house

Washington (CNN) - Rep. Tom Perriello, D-Virginia, released a statement Wednesday responding to the investigation into a "suspicious incident" at his brother's home in Virginia:

"My number one priority right now is ensuring the safety of my brother's family, and I am grateful to law enforcement for their excellent work. While it is too early to say anything definitive regarding political motivations behind this act, it's never too early for political leaders to condemn threats of violence, particularly as threats to other Members of Congress and their children escalate. And so I ask every member of House and Senate leadership to state unequivocally tonight that it is never OK to harm or threaten elected officials and their families with anything more than political retribution. Here in America, we settle our political differences at the ballot box."

I hope the FBI finds the culprits in all these mean things that have been happening lately.

I suspect the more Bachmann and Palin incite, the worse it will get.

Well said sir. The republican leadership has not come out to denounce these acts. Sarah Palin is the one inciting this hatred.

Tea partiers were way out of line since the first mafia signs were exposed. I think the Tea Partiers are a bunch of nutty bullies! some with the "Nepoleon Image" of themselves carrying guns. It went too far the very first time I seen a gun toting NRA idiot on T.V. from nearly the beginning of Obama Presidents. And they say they are NOT raciists?
    Many of them "ARE"!

That's where the health care issue should have been decided; at the ballot box! If it had been put in the hands of the American voters, then the will of the people would have been met. In this case it was not met and now those responsible will have to deal with a very angry public. This simply goes to show just how out of touch our 'leaders' really are. Deal with your troubles mister, your responsible for them. We will vote you out when the time comes. This is a free, free market, capitalist country. The recent steps taken are unconstitutional and a violation of public office. The overspending in Washington will be the death of the U.S. economy and our elected officials are completely responsible.

"...I ask every member of House and Senate leadership to state unequivocally tonight that it is never OK to harm or threaten elected officials..."

So it's okay to harm or threaten people who aren't "elected officials?"

How about harming them by soaking them in taxes? Or threatening them with fines for not being good little peons and buying the health insurance that Big Brother has ordered them to buy?

We don't need to worry about the terrorists from Afghanistan, we have a new breed of terrorists right here at home, known as the tea party.
I am ashamed of my fellow Americans.

And Sarah Palin and the rest of the far-right wingnuts who advocates violence should be charged with Aiding and Abeting. They know exactly what they're doing and so do we since the beginning of this President's term.

As a lifelong Republican I must say that unless our party gets a handle on the growing issue of "wingnuts" that appear to be a part of the Rep. party we will not only save the Dems from what should historically be a tough election year for them ,we'll cause them to gain seats not lose them.

Fiery retoric that Sarah Palin ,Michelle Bachman and others have been fond of using has consequences.

    We better learn...and QUICKLY!!!

I am appalled at what is going on. Racism, violence, and pure, unvarnished stupididty.

While my long time democratic congressman from the 9th district was too spineless to vote for the health care bill – this gentleman did what was right and decent.

I am hoping that all constituents of districts that voted against health care would support Mr. Periello. These are our new heroes...voting for us, and suffering severe consequences for it.

    Let's do the right thing.

It's time to start rounding up all those Right-Wing Tea Bag Terrorists and put in in the FEMA camps Dick Cheney had built. Ironic eh?

"Here in America, we settle our political differences at the ballot box."

Yeah...try telling that to SteveBob, who's spent his entire mulletheaded life being told that democracy means you get what you want or you shoot people, while he practices for it every weekend while listening to scary stories about communism around a bonfire of burning tires, drinking radiator fluid colored moonshine, shooting cans with the word "yankee" or "liberal" painted on them and pretending he's in a guerrilla warfare revolutionary freedom militia poised to defend Amurika from the pinkos, jews, n-bombs, those godd-mn canadian rascals and Hall & Oates cover bands.

    Where's the FBI?????
They need to stop this at the root – limberger, beck, quitter, vonbeugh(sp?), faux news.
This is NOT funny and it's very dangerous and scary when they are now going not just after the elected representatives but their families.
They hae gone from brick throwing to scare tactics of hits on their children.

Why not ask Boehnor, or Cantor, or McCain, or Bachmann, or Limbaugh, or Beck, or Palin, what they know about this...they are inciting people to violence and should be held accountable.

    GOP = Domestic Terrorists.

Militia "leaders" are calling on people to throw bricks through the windows of those lawmakers who voted for the health care reform bill.

Sarah Palin has a map of "targeted" Representatives who voted for the health care reform bill – complete with gun sights showing where the Representatives reside.

Teabaggers are carrying weapons to rallies, with signs saying they're willing to "go to war" to block health care reform.

Sounds like domestic terrorism is on the rise. Perhaps we should take a page from the Bush/Cheney play book and arrest these people, don't charge them with anything, and hold them indefinitely without benefit of legal counsel.

There's plenty of room for them at Gitmo before it closes. I'm sure they wouldn't mind, since they are all for keeping our country safe from terrorists.

This came directly as the result of a Tea Party organizer placing this Democratic lawmakers brothers physical address into the hands of the rabid tea-party wing-nuts and then urging them to go to that address.

Some of them obviously did and CUT that man's gas lines which could have murdered that man and his family and burned his home to the ground.

Fox News and these psycho-babble rabid tea-party organizers should be held fully accountable for such offenses and actions by its viewers and members in my opinion.

This must stay political, scream to the top of your lungs while you still can and vote out the trash. But dont by any means resort to violence.
As much as Odumbo has split our country in half, we the people still have to live together and make things better our selfs.
If you disagree, make your voice heard in 2010 and 2012, that will make our goverment think. Well maybe.

    2010/2012 REAL Change is coming

The Republican "leadership" (I use the term loosely) in Congress is complicit in this domestic terrorism unless they decisively condemn it. They also need to apologize to the country for knowingly stirring up the venomous hatred and overheated anger that is now boililng over. Shame on them.

Unfortunately, in this country, you have the Democratic Party and you have the Grand Ol' Plunderers' (GOP) movement along with ALL their followers. And the Grand Ol' Plunderers' (GOP) movement is made up of a bunch of Nazi-Loving FASCISTS that basically want to have totalitarian rule over this nation of ours, sort of like Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, to bring the lower and middle-class citizens TO IT'S KNEES !!

These people are on the wrong side of history just like the people who where against the civil rights movement . Americans will not respect this thuggish behavior, this may seem like the right thing to do now but history will compare them to people like Bull Conners and George Wallace. Is that how you want to be remembered???

So very sorry that you and your family are being threatened, it is totally disgusting. I believe it is way past time that the police/feds, etc. cracked down on the parties responsible for the ongoing (political) violence in this country. There are certain political parties that are advocating hatred and violence, and it has got to stop. They have gone too far...enough is enough. I am just afraid these political parties (and we all know who they are) will keep up the violence and hatred until someone is either injured or killed.
