Palin's crosshairs spark fundraising plea in Virginia

A Sarah Palin fundraising post on Facebook led Terry McAuliffe to send his own e-mail on behalf of Tim Perriello, one of Palin's targets.
A Sarah Palin fundraising post on Facebook led Terry McAuliffe to send his own e-mail on behalf of Tim Perriello, one of Palin's targets.

Washington (CNN) - One of the Democrats being "targeted" by Sarah Palin is now getting some fundraising help from Terry McAuliffe, the former Democratic National Committee chairman who is staying active in Virginia politics as he mulls a second run at the governor's mansion.

Rep. Tom Perriello is one of 20 House Democrats who voted for health care reform legislation that Palin hopes to boot from office in November.

An image on her Facebook page this week featured crosshairs trained on the districts of the vulnerable Democrats in question – a move that has Democrats claiming Palin is inciting violence against Democrats.

"Sarah Palin has set her sights on Virginia Congressman Tom Perriello – literally," McAuliffe wrote in a fundraising e-mail Thursday sent to his supporters. "She actually posted an image on the Internet that shows a gun sight centered on his district."

McAuliffe thanks Perriello for "putting principles above politics" and supporting the health care bill, a vote that could cost him in his conservative-leaning district. He then asks supporters to make a "generous donation" to Perriello's campaign before the end of March, the next quarterly fundraising deadline.

"Now Tom's principled stand has put him in Sarah Palin's crosshairs," he wrote. "But in 2008, Virginia rejected Sarah Palin and her over-the-top rhetoric. We certainly won't stand for it now."

The FBI and local law enforcement officials are investigating a "suspicious incident" at the home of the congressman's brother. A line to the propane tank on his brother's gas grill had been "severed," an aide to the Democratic congressman told CNN.

Politico reported Monday that a Tea Party activist in Lynchburg, angry over Perriello's vote in favor of health care reform legislation, had posted the address of Perriello's brother online and encouraged other activists to "stop by" and weigh in on the bill. The activist had apparently meant to post the congressman's home address but mistakenly published his brother's.

McAuliffe's e-mail is yet another sign he plans to remain a player in Virginia politics. On Wednesday, McAuliffe and blasted Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for opposing President Obama's health care law.

McAuliffe also told CNN that he is leaving the door open to a second gubernatorial bid in 2013. McAuliffe ran last year, but fell short in the June Democratic primary.

Friend,

Sarah Palin is targeting my friend, Congressman Tom Perriello.

He's had our back in Congress. Now it's time we had his.

Sarah Palin has set her sights on Virginia Congressman Tom Perriello – literally. She actually posted an image on the Internet that shows a gun sight centered on his district.

Together, let's show Sarah Palin that her irresponsible attacks only embolden our resolve to send strong leaders like Tom Perriello to Washington.

On Sunday night, Tom helped us make history. After beating a Republican incumbent in Virginia's 5th district in 2008 by just 727 votes, you could be forgiven for thinking he would play it safe. But Tom stood up for his constituents and the people of Virginia, casting a courageous vote for health care reform.

Now Tom's principled stand has put him in Sarah Palin's crosshairs. But in 2008, Virginia rejected Sarah Palin and her over-the-top rhetoric. We certainly won't stand for it now.

Click here to make a contribution to Tom's campaign before the March 31st FEC fundraising deadline so he has the resources to fight back against Sarah Palin's attacks.

Tom's people-powered campaign won in 2008 thanks to a commitment to conviction politics. In Congress, he's governed with the same dedication. He refuses to put partisanship over policy solutions, spending every day fighting to fix our economy, secure our energy future, and ensure that every Virginian has access to affordable health care.

His reelection in 2010 will send a message that putting principles above politics is a winning strategy. If I know one thing about Tom, it's that he'll always do what's right, not what's easy.

Sarah Palin tried to scare Americans out of supporting this bill, and now she's trying to scare you out of supporting Tom Perriello. It's time to show her that dog don't hunt!

Click here to make a generous contribution to Tom Perriello's campaign today.

Thanks to Tom, 1.2 million uninsured Virginians will have access to affordable health insurance; 93,400 Virginia small businesses will have access to health care tax credits; and countless Virginians with pre-existing conditions will no longer be subject to insurance discrimination. Let's make sure this hero is back in 2010.

Thanks,

Terry McAuliffe

P.S. – Tom promised to work a double shift for us in Congress and man, has he ever. Sarah Palin may have quit her job as Governor of Alaska, but I know that Tom won't quit working for us. Tell Sarah Palin we've had enough. Click here to rush a contribution to Tom Perriello's reelection campaign today.

One of Sarah's target is on our Representative, Gabrielle Giffords. I thank Ms.Giffords for her courage in voting yes on this bill. Palin putting her in the crosshairs of her campaign will just make me work harder to get her reelected. Thanks, Sarah for that extra push toward electing and reelecting Democrats.

All Communists, i.e. Democrats need to be thrown out of office. I for one can't wait till Claire Mcaskill comes up for re-election in Missouri so we can throw her out of office too.

She is just one more radical, out of control wingnut. She and the rest of the GOPers shoulld be arrested and put somewhere where they are not a threat to normal citizens. I vote that they be shipped to an island that is inhabited only by reptiles – they would fit right in.

For people whom are said to be pro-life, why are they so violent ? As an independant I sit back and read the blogs, read the paper watch the evening news and it strikes me odd that the pro-lifers are the more violent crowd. I wonder if the GOP's plan for not supporting health care will back fire. I have seen the polls and spoken with friends and they all seem to be warming up to the new bill. However even my die hard republican friends are growing increasingly tired of the split of the base. Are you an conservitive or a tea bagger ? All this may just backfire for the GOP. Compromise is the word we should learn to accept.

McCain wrote off Palin's "crosshairs" imagery as politics as usual. No big deal, right Mr. McCain? And yet McCAin got his knickers in a twist when Al Franken, doing his job, refused Leiberman an extra few minutes. He was incensed and shocked and blah blah blah. But when Ms. Palin shoots off her mouth from the sidelines exhorting the rabble to grab their guns and target Dems, no big deal. Mr. McCain: Have you no shame? That goes for all the GOP. Have you no shame at all?

CNN, when Sarah Palin calls our President a terrorist, it's ok, but when I infer that Sarah Palin is using fear, which is the equivalent of terrorism, I get erased? Ok, just so I know the ground rules, which are basically: it's only ok if you're a Republican. Got it.

Palin, and a majority of the Republican party, are trying to scare us into voting them back into power. And you do know that these scare tactics qualify as the definition for terrorism, right? Sarah Palin with her crosshairs and reload nonsense, along with her hate rallies during the campaign, along with Republicans and their use of socialist obamacare and it's going to kill your grandma, are using terrorism, and quite successfully, I might add. They need to be called out for what they're doing. They own this and frankly the media is giving them a free pass. So go ahead, erase away. You can't, however, erase the truth.

She should be arrested for inciting violence with her "reload" remark. I am not sure that this country wouldn't be safer if we locked up the entire Republican party.

I am terribly concerned about the direction this country is going in and wonder if this over-reaction to healthcare is not a delayed racist reaction to being led by a black man who I see as a moderate.

She has promoted hate, fear, divisiveness since day 1 she was introduced to the lower 48.

Republicans use her to stir it all up and then discard her.

She's a money-maker (prostitutes her hate and fear). That's all she is.

Palin is a disgusting woman. Not only is she doing this to incite violence she will take her enamored followers donations, not to give to the candidates running against the congressmen in her cross-hairs, but to buy more of her books.

The image IN HER FACEBOOK PAGE speaks for itself.
She's nuts and a loose cannon.
Check out the history books and sites on the web (the reliable ones not those which tries to rewrite History). Many times in the past there were groups that, through violence and other illegal acts, imposed their 'righter than thou' opinions on others in the USA History.
The results? Shame and regrets for the later generations and in more than a few cases very bad news for those who supported them.

I've tired of the "moral equivalency" argument from the Republicans.

Only 25% of Americans identify themselves as members of the Party-of-No.

McConnell, Boehner, Kantor, Bachmann, Palin, Limbaugh, Coltier, ALL bear responsibility for creating a heightened threatening environment in politics.

I hope like heck no one gets hurt. If they do we need to put each and every person above on trial and in jail.

People like Sarah Palin are the real people who should be targeted

Why is Sarah Palin not being arrested for inciting violence?

If something ever happens, there better be payback to Palin and the people who promote these nut jobs

HEY the Dummyctars haven't heard the messages from America so far, but they sure have taken notice to being "Targeted" in the next election! It's not the Republicans that are flirting with the 2nd American revolution, it's the Democrats!

Democrats (and their enabling state-run media propaganda outlets like CNN) are acting like a bunch of paranoid frightened pansies, reading all kinds of portents into what would be in any other political situation just the usual and normal political metaphors, like "battle-ground states" and the Obama "camp", and many others.

Enough liberal spin and propaganda! We're not buying it CNN!

Discovery Communications needs to re-think their TV series with Palin. Foget everything else that's objectionable that she does and stands for; her violent signals to the crazies out there are deliberate. We are not so naive as to think otherwise. Either that, or she really is as stupid as everyone thinks she is.

Thoughts and prayers are with the courageous principles of Rep. Perriello & other leaders, including the safety of their families. Regardless of our political views, no American should be subjected to Palin's irresponsible/incendiary rhetoric.

Our country is better than that.

This woman is one sick puppy and she is fueling the underline-hidden problem in this country. For eight years no one listen to a portion of Americans, and now a new rightwing group is shouting to the current administration no one is listening to them.

When the people who suffered under Bush could not get the republicans to listen, there were no death threats, we just made sure another republican did not get into office.

It makes one wonder which portion of Americans is truly dysfunctional the left or the right.

Honestly, in all due respect, did anyone really expect anything different from Sarah Palin and her totalitarian Grand Ol' Plunderer (GOP) facist movement? Come on folks, give me a break !! The Grand Ol' Plunderers (GOP) solely want to rule the world, almost like the EVIL third reich had hoped for !!

Sarah Palins website may not come out and say "KILL THESE DEMOCRATS" but she doesn't have too, she is sending a subblimable message to all her followers, insighting HATE, insighting domestic terrorism......just like the Republicans that stood on the balconys in Washington on Sunday and cheered to the crowds that were protesting, just like Limbaugh who told his listeners to get rid of the Bastards......and what makes it even worse is that very few of the GOP in Washington has come forward to stop this violence......their lack of words says it all, they appove of it.......they are creating HOME GROWN TERRORISTS......any of these people that Palin has targeted, if any harm comes to them, Palin should be held responsible.......She sits back and collects all this money, insighting all this Hate and stirring up her followers to go out and do harm to these people.......who do you think will get caught and do jail time for these actions......YOU BRAINWASHED IDIOTS.......but not Palin.....And this excuse of a WOMAN says she is so American......this is not the American Way......she is not the patiotic woman she claims herself to be......she is a sick sick lady......and by the way I will not watch her on her New TV Gig......I will no long watch Discovery Channel for having chosen Sarah Bin Laden Palin......a Promoter of TERRORISUM
