Palin's crosshairs spark fundraising plea in Virginia

A Sarah Palin fundraising post on Facebook led Terry McAuliffe to send his own e-mail on behalf of Tim Perriello, one of Palin's targets.

A Sarah Palin fundraising post on Facebook led Terry McAuliffe to send his own e-mail on behalf of Tim Perriello, one of Palin's targets.

Washington (CNN) – One of the Democrats being "targeted" by Sarah Palin is now getting some fundraising help from Terry McAuliffe, the former Democratic National Committee chairman who is staying active in Virginia politics as he mulls a second run at the governor's mansion.

Rep. Tom Perriello is one of 20 House Democrats who voted for health care reform legislation that Palin hopes to boot from office in November.

An image on her Facebook page this week featured crosshairs trained on the districts of the vulnerable Democrats in question – a move that has Democrats claiming Palin is inciting violence against Democrats.

"Sarah Palin has set her sights on Virginia Congressman Tom Perriello – literally," McAuliffe wrote in a fundraising e-mail Thursday sent to his supporters. "She actually posted an image on the Internet that shows a gun sight centered on his district."

McAuliffe thanks Perriello for "putting principles above politics" and supporting the health care bill, a vote that could cost him in his conservative-leaning district. He then asks supporters to make a "generous donation" to Perriello's campaign before the end of March, the next quarterly fundraising deadline.

"Now Tom's principled stand has put him in Sarah Palin's crosshairs," he wrote. "But in 2008, Virginia rejected Sarah Palin and her over-the-top rhetoric. We certainly won't stand for it now."

The FBI and local law enforcement officials are investigating a "suspicious incident" at the home of the congressman's brother. A line to the propane tank on his brother's gas grill had been "severed," an aide to the Democratic congressman told CNN.

Politico reported Monday that a Tea Party activist in Lynchburg, angry over Perriello's vote in favor of health care reform legislation, had posted the address of Perriello's brother online and encouraged other activists to "stop by" and weigh in on the bill. The activist had apparently meant to post the congressman's home address but mistakenly published his brother's.

McAuliffe's e-mail is yet another sign he plans to remain a player in Virginia politics. On Wednesday, McAuliffe and blasted Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli for opposing President Obama's health care law.

McAuliffe also told CNN that he is leaving the door open to a second gubernatorial bid in 2013. McAuliffe ran last year, but fell short in the June Democratic primary.

Subject: Palin Politics

Sarah Palin is targeting my friend, Congressman Tom Perriello.

He's had our back in Congress. Now it's time we had his.

Sarah Palin has set her sights on Virginia Congressman Tom Perriello – literally. She actually posted an image on the Internet that shows a gun sight centered on his district.

Together, let's show Sarah Palin that her irresponsible attacks only embolden our resolve to send strong leaders like Tom Perriello to Washington.

On Sunday night, Tom helped us make history. After beating a Republican incumbent in Virginia's 5th district in 2008 by just 727 votes, you could be forgiven for thinking he would play it safe. But Tom stood up for his constituents and the people of Virginia, casting a courageous vote for health care reform.

Now Tom's principled stand has put him in Sarah Palin's crosshairs. But in 2008, Virginia rejected Sarah Palin and her over-the-top rhetoric. We certainly won't stand for it now.

Click here to make a contribution to Tom's campaign before the March 31st FEC fundraising deadline so he has the resources to fight back against Sarah Palin's attacks.

Tom's people-powered campaign won in 2008 thanks to a commitment to conviction politics. In Congress, he's governed with the same dedication. He refuses to put partisanship over policy solutions, spending every day fighting to fix our economy, secure our energy future, and ensure that every Virginian has access to affordable health care.

His reelection in 2010 will send a message that putting principles above politics is a winning strategy. If I know one thing about Tom, it's that he'll always do what's right, not what's easy.

Sarah Palin tried to scare Americans out of supporting this bill, and now she's trying to scare you out of supporting Tom Perriello. It's time to show her that dog don't hunt!

Click here to make a generous contribution to Tom Perriello's campaign today.

Thanks to Tom, 1.2 million uninsured Virginians will have access to affordable health insurance; 93,400 Virginia small businesses will have access to health care tax credits; and countless Virginians with pre-existing conditions will no longer be subject to insurance discrimination. Let's make sure this hero is back in 2010.

Terry McAuliffe

P.S. – Tom promised to work a double shift for us in Congress and man, has he ever. Sarah Palin may have quit her job as Governor of Alaska, but I know that Tom won't quit working for us. Tell Sarah Palin we've had enough. Click here to rush a contribution to Tom Perriello's reelection campaign today.

i mean, I don't like this lady as she is just another neo-con, but to say that the targets on the website incites violence is just plain, just plain stupid.

GOP has all of the answer. None of the violence is there fault! They are against violence. The just believe in encouraging it by comments, pictures, words and ads. They are loving this. To the person who said that this is a new low for Democrats, what is this for the GOP. First the party of NO, now HATE, and VIOLENCE. Except it is not their fault. No way, no how. I have voted many times for a republican in different elections. No more. No way in hell with any member of the GOP ever get my vote again as long as they are going to set such standards for the public and young people to go by.

Sarah Palin is not very smart. Sarah Palin is mentally unstable. Sarah Palin is a loose cannon and her handlers are always telling us that she didn't mean what she said.

As a Liberal, I would love for Palin to run for the Presidency just for the embarrassment it would cause Conservatives. As an American, I'm terrified that she might win.

Please, Republicans, support anyone else: Gingrich, McCain, Boehner, McConnell, Quayle, Beck, Limbaugh, Huckabee, Romney, Miss California, the DA from Law and Order, Kate Gosselin, the Octomom, anyone but Palin.

I for one don't think with the threats and violence being around on this bill has nothing to do with what the leaders are saying or doing, let alone if they may be persuasive or influential is another story but I ain't surprised how far this has come. And if there's anyone who should be blamed for all of this is our President. Maybe it may be a bit premature considering his stances on various issues and ideology, and also onsidering his lack of dissonance but he was the man of "change." Being influential is not about getting your priorities straight, is about whether you make people gets their straight.

Even I admit and confess that I go out of line at times, might make fun of people, make uncalled for comments, stirring up the stove, etc. But I don't threaten people, I just do it in a symbolic way. And it is true, we cannot make ourselves look good if we make another person look bad, especially with deragatory comments and blasphemous statements. And I am doing it in the poll when it comes. And yes I am angry, and yes I feel betrayed by our President, and all of the opposite but that don't mean I have a right to go out of line. It is true, people should vote when the time comes and get em out and that's what I'll be doing.

Whether how far this will go only time will tell but in a country like ours, it doesn't matter who's got the biggest stick, it matters a hella of a lot more who's swinging it.

Come on people! The cross hairs on the map are set on DISTRICTS. Does this mean the evil Palin plans on killing everybody in that district? It' s not like she has the crosshairs centered in on somebody's forehead. Dems just want some cover from the mess they created for themselves in the next election and are blowing this violence issue way out of proportion. The crosshairs are only meant to signify those areas will be targeted by Palin for intensive campaigning. You people know that! I'm surprised it took this long for political correctness to apply to politicians.

What Sarah Palin and the Tea Party / Republicans don't realize is that if one of these Democrats or their family members were to get physically hurt behind the nonsense / threats that the Republicans are promoting all hell is going to break loose. Sarah Palin need not forget that idiots in this world also know where Alaska is and that she too can become a target behind her stupidity.

If the Republican Party claims to be the party of high christain values and morals then they should ask themselves "What Would Jesus Do"

Sarah Palin when was the last time that you attended church or had a personal one on one talk with God. Do you know God as your Lord and Personal Saviour.

Hatemongers won't make it into Heaven

Lets face it Sarah Palin isn't the brightest crayon in the box, stupid people do stupid things. She has this mentality that violence and threatening people is ok. Be careful Sarah there are other idiots in this world like yourself that don't care about hurting people.

The Republican Party uses scare tactics to try to get things done. Sarah used the scare tactic that Obama pails around with terrorist but did it do any good, no she still lost the election.

My advice to Sarah Palin is don't be a copycat, pick up a book (Bible) and read it, you just might learn something.

Sarah palin is still the biggest joke in American politics, she is a nobody in 90% of Americans eyes. she has no political experience at all other then a half term as Alaskan governor. she quite that position due to the numerous ethics investigations there were on her and her family. john McCain has said numerous times he regrets ever choosing someone as pathetic as Sarah to be his running mate . Alaskans have voiced their opinions about how incompetent she was as acting governor of their state. My 14 year old son is more in touch with American politics then she is. she totally embarrassed herself her family and john McCain and all his staff when she was speaking to the journalists during the campaign. and all the clueless people who think she is qualified to be an American politician are just as ridiculous as Sarah herself is .the republican party is fazing out of American politics slowly but surely.the hipocracy the lies, the lack of ethics , the illegal actions of the last 8 years of republican rule . the so called conservative initiative they stress after having a 200+ billion dollar surplus and putting this country in to debt more so than at any other time in history. should stop them from using the conserve tactics. but they are after all hypocrites and lairs to the end . trying to rewrite history like liz Cheney trying to say how her father and the bush admin kept us safe for 8 years... like we forgot whos watch it was when he were hit on 911. and then we find out they had months and months of warning before 911 happened . nothing but lies, lies and more lies from Cheney and his family. now we have hillbillies calling and threatening democratic senators and congressmen and women because a black man had enough power to pass a bill that would go against everything republicans stand for , helping the American people. as apposed to giving more tax breaks to the big oil and insurance companies . those morons who are threatening these people are soulless, uneducated, scared, morons who stopped taking their meds . they aren't heroes standing for something good. they,re total piss-ants who are frightened little children in a grownups body. with nothing good to offer up to this great country of ours . just empty threats and yelling to the top of their lungs. we need to treat them like we would a prepubescent teen that thinks the world is going to end because the night of the prom they found a pimple on their face. . seriously , these idiots who use religion and the fact that their own families think they,re crazy as a badge to cause chaos and disrupt meetings and threaten people like its ok to do so because they don't agree with whats going on. well wake the heck up morons millions of Americans haven't agreed with republicans for the last 8 years , lying to the people just to go to war, giving drug companies 800 billion of American tax payer dollars for bribes from lobbyists , causing our men and women in our military to die, and then not pay them after they come home with injuries . republicans have had control for to long of this country. and the final result was the financial collapse of wall street that lead to the collapse of main street due to bush getting rid of strict financial regulations and letting wall street do whatever they wanted with our money. that's right America wake up. it was republicans who almost destroyed this country that's why obama won his election with overwhelming results. he won because the republican actions and views were destroying this country . and so far he has kept his word on change. finally the American people , the middle class have new policy and laws that will protect them and not the insurance companies and the drug companies and not the richest of this country but all of us who are Americans. so whine and lie some more republicans keep egging on the threateners and the tea party idiots who only want fear and chaos . and when your party never bounces back from this mess you've dug for yourselves it will still be a 2 party system , the independents and the democrats who more or less see things eye to eye anyway. your motives and ideology is outdated and more socialist and hitleresk then anything democrats and independents have ever pushed for.and you all know it.

I WILL DONATE! ALL THESE HORRIBLE THINGS SHE HAS DONE WILL COME BACK TO HAUNT HER. I AM REALLY AFRAID FOR AMERICA WITH THE LIKES OF LIMBAUGH AND PALIN AND BECK TRYING TO INCITE PEOPLE TO VIOLENCE. How can anyone who professes to be a Christian support this woman on the basis of her being a Christian role model? Now you can see all the nuts that have come out and threatened people with wishes of cancer and disease and harm to their children. This is what she invokes, how can anyone decent support her.

The comments of reloading and using crosshairs may have been used figuratively, but there are enough "literal" thinkers out there that they take such comments as approval to attack others. I think next time, Mrs. Palin should consider her words and pictures more carefully.

McAuliffe is still clueless. Virginia didn't send a message last year by electing McConnell by an 18% margin did they Terry? It was a message that the people of this country reject socialism. The democratic party has dissapeared and has been replaced by a bunch of liberal socialistic morons that are destroying our country. You can bash Palin all you want but she is a lot more desirable than your marxist counterparts. DEFEAT BETSY MARKEY AND JOHN SALAZAR IN NOVEMBER. FOR THE STIMUBUST AS WELL AS CAP AND CON AND THIS BOGUS HEALTH CARE BILL

is politic in American that simpleton that a person with no vested interest in the well being of the citizens of Virginia actually have an impact on how they vote. Interpretation–what is Palin got to do with Virginia.
Why should voters in Virginia listen to someone who lost interest in representing people in her own state. Is someone actually looking Palin in the eye an telling her she can have an impact on this election.

Wow– money can buy a lot of things, I did not know making voters act stupid was one of them.

If the average citizen would have posted a crosshairs map on facebook and used domestic terriorist language...the FBI would be looking very hard at them. Why not Palin? She IS inciting violence and some idiot out there will do just what she is suggesting to do. She would be a co-conspirator. She needs to be arrested. If the gas line to her house would have been cut, OMG, she would be on TV crying...poor me!! She needs to stop before someone gets hurt. Oh, and this would be her policy if she were the leader of our country??????

Palin, the "teabaggers" and the rest of these republicans are getting out of hand! they look and sound like hateful, racists, ranting children! These types of postings Palin has along with the devisive words and actions by republican leaders etc....words like "let's get Palin lined up in the Firing Line" by michael Steele..sends that "message" to some loon out there that may take that as "let's shoot the house speaker" down right irresponsible and frightening!

Also, these tea partiers plan to have an all out gun rally on April 19th, which by the way is the anniversary date to Timothy Mcvay's bombing of the federal building as well as Waco Siege of 1993...these gun crazed, right wing, tea partier individuals are crazy! they are nothing but racists and filled with hate in their hearts!...enough is enough!
