News Release

Richmond Police Investigate Cantor Building Vandalism

March 25, 2010

The Richmond Police Department is investigating an act of vandalism at the Reagan Building, 25 E. Main St., Richmond, Virginia. A first floor window was struck by a bullet at approximately 1 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23. The building, which has several tenants including an office used by Congressman Eric Cantor, was unoccupied at the time.

A Richmond Police detective was assigned to the case. A preliminary investigation shows that a bullet was fired into the air and struck the window in a downward direction, landing on the floor about a foot from the window. The round struck with enough force to break the windowpane but did not penetrate the window blinds. There was no other damage to the room, which is used occasionally for meetings by the congressman.

The Richmond Police Department is sharing information about the incident with appropriate law enforcement agencies.

At this time there are no suspects.

It was a random hit, not aimed at the window. Breathe, Mr. Cantor. It wasn't aimed at your office.

So whoever fired the shot wasn't necessarily shooting at the building. I knew Cantor was blowing htis out of proportion. Republicans are not the victims here, they are the suspects.

WWOW...There's the Repubs for you. Now they'resaying its the Democratics that are causing all the attempts at violence. We aren't the ones that are yelling. Our bill was passed and we awaiting for it to take place. They are the ones that have crowds screaming and throwing bricks at windows, spitting on people and calling them names. You Repubs are the sorest losers that ever lived and your day to disappear will come with the next election.

Did anyone hear shots fired? I notice a stoplight nearby – any cameras on those stoplights?

  9. Randolph Carter, I'm no expert but...

Fired into the air, hmmm..... One would think that a determined nutcase would fire directly into the window. This sounds more like some gang-bangers firing into the air as they are wont to do now and again. A child was killed around these parts in a similar incident not long ago. But I'm no ballistics expert. Have a nice day!

Personally I find Eric Cantor to be a reprehensible person. But that is no excuse for people to shoot at him or his offices. All this violence should be forcefully condemned by all political, religious and social leaders.

Pretty darn convenient if you ask me? You've gotta give it to these guys though, they know how to play to the crowd.

Shame on Cantor, that bullet was shot AT his office, it was shot in the air and so happen to go IN his office. Just another twisting of facts by the GOP.

Let me see if I understand this correctly: Rep. Cantor is accusing the Democrats of stirring the flames of violence? Heck, it wouldn't surprise me if Rep. Cantor tried to shoot himself in the foot and missed and then decided to blame the nearest Democrat walking down E. Main Street.

Come on, Rep. Cantor, you're a Congressman...for God's sake, grow up and play nice.

The Democrats have not been fanning the flames of violence. It sounds more like something a right-wing gun nut would do so what did Cantor do to tick them off?

Democrats don't need to resort to those type of tactics.

Bullets flying randomly on E. Main St. in that part of downtown Richmond is like playgrounds and picket fences in the suburbs – the fact that it hit the building which houses his office sounds more like a random Tuesday night than anything else.

I don't hear anyone in the Democratic party or supporters condeming this. So, I guess this is okay.

What Palin did on her entry was totally unacceptable and as well as what happened to Rep Cantors office.

    Neither is acceptable at anytime.

Not once did they report say that the bullet was fired at Cantor's office.

Cantor is make a weak and stupid argument and should have some respect for himself and his Jewish community. The Jews have nothing to do with this ugly mess Mr. Cantor.

Call it what you want, this is violence gone wild. If you are not concerned regarding all of the slurs, etc, then that is a problem. I have watched the mischief that the Republicans have stirred up. They all need to be voted out of office if they don't plan on working to make this country better.

I think its good that people are starting to stand up and started do something, no matter what its for, health care, economy, education. That reminds me when all of those college student rallied because of rising school prices, did there words help keep the price down, or where they just heard and pushed aside. Keep taking action. The Revolution Begins.....

Another "sick Republican" who thinks he has the intelligence and integriety to defeat President O'bama in 2012. No republican on the political scene has what it takes to challange this man. Suck it up.

Cantor is shameless for blaming Democrats for the threats and violence by those opposed to HCR. Accusing Democrats of violence without any evidence, just promotes more violence in retribution by the lunatic fringe.

Really? Why now? The eternal constipated cantor just can't let the democrats be the targets of the quitter and vandebough. I don't believe him. Does he own a gun? They better check it.
If anyone has fanned the flames it's the repugs! Just in case you don't get it loser, we won the election in 2008 and the citizens of the US won healthcare reform.
Even if those protesting the loudest and spitting at our elected officials don't realize that they are already receiving government help because they are too stupid and too set in their white sheet ways to understand this!
