(CNN) - The keynote speaking slot at the South Carolina Republican Party's annual Silver Elephant Banquet is usually given to an up-and-coming voice in the party – often someone looking down the road to a possible presidential bid and eager to meet activists in a key primary state.
GOP heavyweights like Ronald Reagan, John McCain, Newt Gingrich, George Allen and Mike Pence have spoken at the event over the last two decades. The dinner, the party's biggest fundraiser of the year, also hosted two Republican presidential primary debates in 1996 and 2000.
This year's speaker though is someone who likely won't be on the ballot in 2012: Karl Rove.
The former adviser to President George W. Bush, who is currently promoting his new memoir, will headline the dinner on April 24 in Columbia.
"The South Carolina Republican Party is incredibly excited about having Karl Rove speak at our Silver Elephant dinner," South Carolina GOP chairwoman Karen Floyd said in a statement. "Karl knows what it takes for Republicans to win, and our activists are anxious to hear what he has to say."
"We've received enormously positive feedback on having him here for this, and we're looking forward to a great event," Floyd said.

What have I been saying for years?????
The similarities between the republican party & the early Nazi Party are too close to be ignored.
The latest being the use of violence against all those who oppose their ideas.
If Republicans are able to take complete control of the House, the Senate & the Presidency, along with the Supreme Court (which remains in their backpocket), the '8' years under George '3 below plant life' Bush will have been just a warm-up.
Under Bush, they were able to set back Democracy for 8 years in terms of; individual rights, spying, torturing, lying & threats. The republicans were conditioning the USA to even more drastic measures down the road.
Condoling the beating & killing of all those Americans opposed to the republican ideal of White Supremacy is just the beginning. Of course they will (just like Hitler) have a use and a need for some Blacks, Jews, Gays, etc., until they are able to work out a plan for their annihilation.
Read your history & the only conclusion that can be drawn is that the republican party is simply a reincarnation of the Nazi Party.
Same rhetoric, ideas & goals, just a different place in a different time.
Human beings feel threatened because fear mongering leads to fear and irrational thought. The republican party has a strong base. The proof of that is; 15-20% of Americans still believe George Bush did a good job. The worst President in US history, an absolute moron with no ability to lead, make decisions or inspire, cannot be given credit for anything positive in terms of what is good for America.
Whether you agreed or disagreed with other Presidents, they at least had the intellect, the class, some past success and early achievement.
Bush was a coward (his military record proves that), a badly spoken illiterate (his speeches confirm that), a lier (Does WMD ring a bell) and is totally & completely responsible for the "Dumbing Down of the American Presidency."
I rest my case, which unlike the republican base is NOT a GUN CASE!
This man should be in prison, along with the terrorist, Rush Limbaugh, and his sponsors.
Shouldn't this guy be in prison by now??? For war crimes!!
Lets put this guy on the 2012 presidential candidate ballot so everyone can see just how corrupt he really is.
Back in the saddle again, I'm back in the saddle again.
...Tell me why is the person. Not in jail. Next to bernie madoff...Sharing the same cell and same bunk. Tell me why?..............................
Again I ask: Why isn't this person in prison? Speaking to a gop fund raiser so he can fuel the flames of fear and hate is the last place he should be.
Lets see
Santorum speaks at a dinner
Rove is head speaker at a party
Palin is speaker at a dinner.
Sounds like a lot of partying going on for this bunch of losers.
Don't any of you do any work. I know nothing was done from 01 thru 08. But this is rediculous.
Has anyone ever heard Rove get interviewed?
He's a very rude guest, he's a typical Republican, he just keeps talking and talking and talking, then he gets louder and louder and louder, these Klan people truly believe if you just talk and talk and never give anyone else a chance to talk that "they are right", it is so pathetic.
Think about it.....every single Republican does this.
It is quite amusing!
The Paragon of family values himself, the man with the flesh colored hair who told the good church going Christians in South Carolina that John McCains adopted daughter from Bangladesh was a love child with a black hooker....Oh I do admire these Republicans, there's no bottom of the ladder, theres no end to the darkness, they will do and say anything to hold onto their 1860 way of life..
Traitor Rove should go over big in South Carolina. He should be in jail, but the GOP loyalists put party before country and love the guy.
He seriously looks more and more like a pig everytime I see him.
Pkm another gop crook being tried in texas these are these the only kind of moren people the gop can get
The U.S has reached a fork in the road. In one direction the U.S moves
forward with big government and a bureaucracy that will dictate the rules
the American people will live and work by.
The other direction will be moving forward with less government and bureaucracy allowing freedom of choice by the people and independent entrepreneurs.
The bottom line is basically Socialism Vs Capitalism. History shows us the former does not work. Capitalism has its problems but nothing else
can accomplish the freedom and standard of living people desire.
When is this crook finally gong to prison? When will there be justice?

Can't be much of a dinner or event. All the names above, except Reagan, have not become President! And when did Mike Pence become a heavyweight GOP'er?
