Washington (CNN) - An MSNBC host has taken a full page ad out Friday in The Boston Globe slamming Sen. Scott Brown, R-Massachusetts.
Rachel Maddow accuses the senator of making things up, and smearing her to raise money and, essentially, insulting Massachusetts.
In the ad, Maddow, who lives in Massachusetts, criticizes Brown for a fundraising e-mail that he sent out this week where he suggests she might challenge him in 2012.
"[B]efore I've even settled into my new job, the political machine in Massachusetts is looking for someone to run against me," Brown wrote supporters. "And you're not going to believe who they are supposedly trying to recruit – liberal MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow."
Brown's e-mail then takes a shot at the cable news host. "I just don't think America can afford her liberal policies," he said.
Brown cited an obscure Boston-area blog post from March 5 as the source of the Maddow rumors.
Firing back, Maddow wrote in her ad, which she also posted on her blog that Brown, "made that up."
"I'm not running against Scott Brown," Maddow wrote. "I never said I was running against Scott Brown. The Massachusetts Democratic Party never asked me to run against Scott Brown."
"It's just not true. Honestly. I swear." The cable news host added that Brown "never even tried to find out if it was true."
Instead, Maddow claimed Brown is smearing one of his constituents to "scare donors into giving him more money." Maddow said, to her, that feels like Brown is insulting Massachusetts.
Brown won his seat in a January special election to fill the remaining three years of the late Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy. But he must face voters again, in 2012, to win a full term.

what is MSNBC please??
I like vote for scott brown
Thanks you
Rip 'em a new one, Rachel!
Thank God, Rachael Madcow member of the UBC is not running!
Who cares?
Run against him Rachel, you would dust him in the wind. He's nothing but a pin-up boy, you could out debate him in a minute.
Is the GOP getting its strategies from the mean girls at the local middle school?
It would be fun to watch Rachel tie Brownie in knots during the debates.
Maddow should run for MA Senator...she'd be better than the pin up model that duped that poor state into voting for him.
Brown can only hope that she doesn't run against him. Go Rachel!
What is it with this political party???? Is Scott Brown that STUPID that he doesn't think that Rachel Maddow will call him out on his lies?? What a bunch of lying morons the GOP has become!
Rachel would make a wonderful senator. Any state would be lucky to have someone so intelligent. The operative word is INTELLIGENT!
Who would ask her to run? really... Rachael looks rather mannish in this photo, don't you think?
As if "MadCow" never smeared anyone. Get a life!
Rachel, you totally rule.
I see CNN didn't bother to report that Maddow's show has repeatedly called Scott Brown's office for comment and to invite him to come on her show. Brown's people aren't even bothering to call back.
Maddow, one of the classiest and smartest people on TV, has often had conservative and Republican guests. They know they get a fair shake and better be prepared, because she and her staff are so sharp.
Rachel Maddow 1, Scott Brown 0.
Who cares what Rachel Maddow thinks
I believe Rachel show leave it to her lawyers. I would just handle it that way. He should be sued! Futhermore, the next candidate that runs against him can use this as amunition to get him straight.

I'm a huge fan of Rachel Maddow and she has, for the last three nights, been denying she is running for Senate. Scott Brown is trying to raise money based on a lie. When is this going to stop. This is also, as Rachel pointed out, the same thing that is done, at least now, with Republicans (like John McCain) who are asking for money to reverse the new health care law. Then, as she stated, they get re-elected and do nothing. Bush used this tactic to raise money to fight for same sex marriage in '04. They use issues that attract people to open up their wallets. We need campaign finance reform.
She would lose BADLY!
Has a girls name but looks like a boy. Standard for liberals. The boys are more wimpy than the girls.
Who cares what this NO-OP says?
Her show is pathetic. Her so called facts are often distorted and easily reputed. She is incompentent, and only slighly better than that MSNBC crybaby Keith O.
Now our newest Republican senator fabricates a story out of whole cloth and even when he's called on it refuses to retract it.
What is it with Republicans that they think it's acceptable to lie about absolutely everything?
Why do Republicans think we're too stupid to care or notice?
Why do Republicans so hate America?
Outside of the usual leftist libtard clogging our college campi like an obstructed bowel, no one is going to vote for Rachel MadCow.
Good job Brownie? Looks like you are Pub material for sure... just make it up; it doesn't matter whether or not its true!
I wish she would run against him!!!
