MSNBC host denies Senate run

'I'm not running against Scott Brown,' Maddow wrote.
'I'm not running against Scott Brown,' Maddow wrote.

Washington (CNN) - An MSNBC host has taken a full page ad out Friday in The Boston Globe slamming Sen. Scott Brown, R-Massachusetts.

Rachel Maddow accuses the senator of making things up, and smearing her to raise money and, essentially, insulting Massachusetts.

In the ad, Maddow, who lives in Massachusetts, criticizes Brown for a fundraising e-mail that he sent out this week where he suggests she might challenge him in 2012.

"[B]efore I've even settled into my new job, the political machine in Massachusetts is looking for someone to run against me," Brown wrote supporters. "And you're not going to believe who they are supposedly trying to recruit – liberal MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow."

Brown's e-mail then takes a shot at the cable news host. "I just don't think America can afford her liberal policies," he said.

Brown cited an obscure Boston-area blog post from March 5 as the source of the Maddow rumors.

Firing back, Maddow wrote in her ad, which she also posted on her blog that Brown, "made that up."

"I'm not running against Scott Brown," Maddow wrote. "I never said I was running against Scott Brown. The Massachusetts Democratic Party never asked me to run against Scott Brown."

"It's just not true. Honestly. I swear." The cable news host added that Brown "never even tried to find out if it was true."

Instead, Maddow claimed Brown is smearing one of his constituents to "scare donors into giving him more money." Maddow said, to her, that feels like Brown is insulting Massachusetts.

Brown won his seat in a January special election to fill the remaining three years of the late Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy. But he must face voters again, in 2012, to win a full term.

This is the kind of welcome John McCain gave Scott Brown, "you're one of us now, play dirty, tell lies to smear as many people as you can. Scott Brown should have told John McCain, "no thanks, that's why you lost". Brown has the greatest opportunity of any Republican to embrace Democrats and Independents if he doesn't listen to the good old boys like McCain. Get smart Brown and just say NO to them.

Wow, the personal comments hurled against Rachel Maddow – calling her ugly, she isn't it all, and stupid, she's a Rhodes Scholar and incredibly bright - say some pretty gross stuff about the people insulting her. What are we. people, first graders hurling insults at each other, a la, "Oh, yeah, we'll you're ugly?" Grow the hell up. Spend some time with the average voter and maybe you too will begin to wonder about this thing called Democracy.

How is Brown lying. He said tat "supposedly" she is being recruited. In fact, someone posted on a liberal blog that she was running. Perhaps it wasn's true, but why is repeating it a lie. Same repub bashers who cling to their "Bush lied us into war." What about the 24 Dems who stated on the floor of the Senate that Iraq definitely had WMD and the US must invade. Were they lying too?

So, Scott Brown is that insecure about his re-election in 2012 and he feels he has to launch a preemptive strike now?

Those who are calling Rachel Maddow a "nobody" and making stupid comments about her gender, you should know that she is a Rhodes Scholar, very intelligent, an intellectual, and has a career to envy. Scott Brown is a nobody, not Rachel Maddow.

Rachel is a partisan hack. We have plenty of those in Washington already and don't need more.

Anyone that says she is "smart" & "intelligent" (idiots), just look at her ratings. If she was so smart, don't u think she have higher ratings? Or even know how to put together a decent show that can appeal to a broad base of viewers instead of coming of bias, shrill and a complete and utter moron!!

You idiots are no different fr Rachel

Why can't Republicans run a straight race without smearing the other candidate. If you thin that your better run on the issues not the negativity .

I find it very interesting that someone considers the idea that they'd be a U.S. Senate candidate to be an insult to their state. I guess she doesn't like herself anymore than her enemies do.

    Joseph,
Rachel Maddow happens to be a Rhode Scholar.

Scott Brown sadly turns out to be another lying politician, who does not even have the courage to meet with Rachel after he claimed, "Bring her on." Pathetic.

Close to 100% of the urban legend emails sent out by right-wingers contains blatant lies (Obama is a Muslim, Obama refuses to take the Pledge of Allegiance, right-wing comments falsely attributed to Jay Leno, George Carlin, Bill Cosby, Paul Harvey, Andy Rooney, Hugh Downs, Robin Williams, etc.) etc.. This is right in line.
