MSNBC host denies Senate run

'I'm not running against Scott Brown,' Maddow wrote.
'I'm not running against Scott Brown,' Maddow wrote.

Washington (CNN) - An MSNBC host has taken a full page ad out Friday in The Boston Globe slamming Sen. Scott Brown, R-Massachusetts.

Rachel Maddow accuses the senator of making things up, and smearing her to raise money and, essentially, insulting Massachusetts.

In the ad, Maddow, who lives in Massachusetts, criticizes Brown for a fundraising e-mail that he sent out this week where he suggests she might challenge him in 2012.

"[B]efore I've even settled into my new job, the political machine in Massachusetts is looking for someone to run against me," Brown wrote supporters. "And you're not going to believe who they are supposedly trying to recruit – liberal MSNBC anchor Rachel Maddow."

Brown's e-mail then takes a shot at the cable news host. "I just don't think America can afford her liberal policies," he said.

Brown cited an obscure Boston-area blog post from March 5 as the source of the Maddow rumors.

Firing back, Maddow wrote in her ad, which she also posted on her blog that Brown, "made that up."

"I'm not running against Scott Brown," Maddow wrote. "I never said I was running against Scott Brown. The Massachusetts Democratic Party never asked me to run against Scott Brown."

"It's just not true. Honestly. I swear." The cable news host added that Brown "never even tried to find out if it was true."

Instead, Maddow claimed Brown is smearing one of his constituents to "scare donors into giving him more money." Maddow said, to her, that feels like Brown is insulting Massachusetts.

Brown won his seat in a January special election to fill the remaining three years of the late Democratic Sen. Edward Kennedy. But he must face voters again, in 2012, to win a full term.

She would be great... intelligent, articulate, and willing to hear both sides. Haven't seen a Republican like that in years and don't have any hopes of it either. Let the bigots, racists and haters keep posting because they sound like just what they are.... ignorant fools.

First, Brown was referring to a Democratically-leaning, liberal group calling for her to run. Geez, I don't think it's a lie if a Democratic source wants her to run to say that Democrats want her to run. So, NO RACHEL IT'S NOT A LIE.

Second, anytime a politico starts protesting loudly at calls by taking a public stance against running (say taking out a full page ad and talking about it on her radically liberal show) then you know they are testing the waters to see how many people start echoing the call for him or her to run. Obama did it, as have many others on both sides. It's a tactic that goes back to Marc Anthony offering the emperors laurel to Julius Caesar with Caesar refusing only to be upset that the crowds were happy (based on the play, maybe not history). So, RACHEL'S AD PROVES THAT SHE IS THINKING OF RUNNING.

Finally, I'm a moderate independent (before you say I'm not) and I can tell you that Rachell Maddow makes some of the liberals in congress like the late Ted Kennedy and Obama look down right conservative. Talk about the wrong person for the job, that's it.

    Just saying.

give me a break....how about running some serial murderrers for politicians...they should have an equal shot with the rest of these degenerates that enter politics on a daily whim and basis.

Please run for public office, Rachel. Someone smart, well-informed, and with her heart in the right place is the much antidote we need to counteract the self-interested liars who have invaded Congress.

Scott Brown wouldn't dare go on her show. She would eat him alive. He's wrong on the issues and he's just not smart enough. I wish she would run. I'd consider moving to Massachusetts just to vote for her. Smartest person on TV.

  9. American Patriot - a true "tea partier"

You know, given that MSNBC is one of the more intelligent news channels and Rachel Maddow is so well known, so well respected, incredibly intelligent and has an awareness not only of politics but the pulse of the American nation, she'd be great as an elected official.

She serves the greater public in an incredible way on her tv show. Her ratings are through the roof. She gets to the root of the problems with dignity and humor. I think that technique, style and ability is needed in Washington.

What a slanted article. How about saying that Brown has not issued a retraction letter - even after KNOWING it isn't true?

During Cheney/Bush, the Republican tendency to ignore reality was very weird, but I thought it was just them. Now it's getting downright scary. Are they ALL like that?

The republicans are becoming so good at lying, that they are starting to believe their own lies. Isn't this a form of mental illness.

Rachel is incredibly smart in analyzing the story and total clarity in her presentation of news. Rachel Maddow show has become one of my favorite political news shows.

Ms. Maddow is too smart to run for Senate. She earns more with her current gigs, not to mention she has very little patience for stupidity.

Our political system is not a reality show.

Funny, this are rumors but republican idiots like Scott Brown jumped all over it and attacked her before finding out if this was a true story or not.

    Ridiculous.

I wish she'd run... but nobody ever roots for a logical figure in Politics beyond Obama.

Another GOP scare tactic, same a Palin, Rove, Cantor, McCain and the rest of the members of the "Party of NO". Not to mention their attack dog, the biggest idiot on TV...Glenn Beck.

They can't win by telling the truth about themselves, their lousy ideas and lack of ethics, so they resort to slamming the opposition....

What a bunch of idiots.....them and those who put them in power.

I live in Virginia, where our Republican Governor is willing to waste money suing over the passage of the Healthcare Bill, but has no problems eliminating poor kids school breakfast and firing teachers to keep his budget down.

    That's what Republicans do.....

I think Scott Brown was better off using the Playgirl photos. A pretty smile only works until you open your mouth! lol

Seriously, though, she'd make a great candidate for office. I think it was poor taste to smeer her before she's even commented on the idea, let alone declared candidacy.

Come on, dude. Couldn't you at least have shown the lady some props for her attributes before you turn this into a circus?

If it were true, Massachusetts would be lucky to have her as their representative. Dr. Rachel Maddow, PHD and a Rhodes Scholar...

She has the smarts and the charisma to give our super intellegent President a run for his money, if she chose to. In fact, the two of them together would be a progressive's dream. BE STILL MY BEATING HEART!!!

    OBAMA/MADDOW 2012!!!

    Mr. Obozo is an Idiot,(2:35pm),

You say all of Maddow's facts are "easily reputed." Gee, but that's so complimentary of you to say the facts she presents are famous in some way.

Or perhaps you, Mr Obozo is an Idiot, really meant "refuted." Uh oh. Who's the idiot now?

(By the way, Maddow is a Rhodes scholar, with a PhD.)

Why would she run? It's easier to sit back and mock everything anyone does rather than actually try to do something about it. Her Limbaugh, Matthews, ALL of them are great at talking the talk, let's see them walk the walk. I don't agree with much of what Senator Brown says, but I do give him credit for DOING something. He ran.

I would be thrilled to see Rachel run against Brown. I watch her show and I am a fairly liberal person. I had hoped that Brown would be an "independent" thinker as he prcolaimed he would be, but he is just as conservative as the rest of his Republican Washingotn cronies.

    This is great.
Step 1: Have someone blog something that you can attack.
Step 2: Attack the blog post idea as bad and dangerous for America
Step 3: Use the blog post to appeal for money

Who cares about reality when you can make up your own?

It's amazing how Neanderthals like Lou, Mike Joseph, etal. have only nasty bigoted replies to anything that enters their rock-lke heads? Rachelis a brilliant woman. Why is it that smart people frighten conservatives? No, you're not conservatives. Because there are and have been many highly intelligent conservatives. Lou, Mike and the rest are just angry ignorant guys who's entire world consists of the three feet around them. Never giving a thought to other peoples thoughts, needs or feelings. If you don't like it then it's bad for all the world. You rail against elite, intellectualism because of a self-esteem problem. Because you can't understand abtract thinking you fight back with child like insults and laughable machismo. Maybe you aren't bad guys at all, but your ugly remarks suggest that you are really pathtic men.

More people read her ad in the Globe then watch her show. Rachel is smart biut biased and twisted. I occasionally watch to see how badly one can twist the facts.
