Palin opens Tea Party protest in Reid's hometown

Searchlight, Nevada (CNN) - Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin kicked off a Tea Party rally Saturday in Sen. Harry Reid's hometown, encouraging disgruntled Americans to "take back our country" while attacking what she called the "Obama-Pelosi-Reid spending spree."

"There's no better place to kick off the Tea Party Express than Harry Reid's hometown," Palin said at the rally, dubbed "Showdown in Searchlight," aimed at conjuring up support for the Senate Majority Leader's defeat in November elections.

Activists - some of whom are calling the gathering the largest retirement party in the world - hope it will carry a strong symbolic message.

Reid, the Senate majority leader, is credited with helping push through Congress the controversial health care bill that President Barack Obama signed Tuesday, as well as the so-called "fixes" measure that passed Thursday.

"Washington has broken faith with the people that they are to be serving," Palin told the crowd, which numbered in the thousands.

Palin said the message to government leaders was "loud and clear."

"The big government, the big debt, Obama-Pelosi-Reid spending spree is over. You're fired," she said, prompting cheers from the crowd.

Palin's speech Saturday echoed many of her recent appearances at Tea Party events as she promoted "common sense conservative values" and decried "elites in Washington" and big government spending.

She addressed recent criticism of a post on her Facebook page that called for conservatives not to retreat in the wake of the health care vote, but "reload." Some critics have suggested the post encouraged violent acts against those who voted in favor of the legislation.

"Let's clear the air right now," she said. "We're not inciting violence. Don't get sucked into the lame-stream media lies about Americans standing up for freedom. it's a bunch of bunk that the media is trying to feed you. Don't let them try to divert" attention from the issue.

Your one sided news coverage of this event is unheard of and ridiculous. Your commentaires and news briefs are SO one sided that I have decided to get my news elsewhere. You are not running a news show, you are running a political caucus. Hope you are getting money from the Democrats, if your not...you should be.

Claudia to answer your question regarding the Tea Baggers chant of "Take Back our Country" I would say the answer is simple.......

White Supremacy is not only a mindset still among us, it's responsible for one of the most hanous crimes against humanity, Slavery.....

This mindset has reared it's ugly head because a Black Man "President Obama" leads our country and is trying to move it progressively forward...

In short the answer is "Racism".......!

Why does one get the feeling this chick Sarah Palin "personally HATES" President Obama. Is it because she is a redneck racist? Or is it because Obama is all the good and wonderful things she is not?

    1) – Obama is POTUS; and Sarah quit the governorship after two years?
    2) – Obama is a Constitutional lawyer with advance scholarly accomplishments; and Sarah took 7-years and 6-colleges to complete her BS?
    3) – Obama spouse also has advance degrees and matching accomplishments; and Sarah’s husband Todd’s claim to fame is that he races snowmobiles?
    4) – Obama speaks truth to heads-of-state; and Sarah spews lies to the gullible?
    5) – Obama has a Nobel Peace Award; and Sarah finds ways to be divisive and destroy peace?

Somehow the tea party folks believe that our democracy is jeopardized ONCE Obama was elected president, simple as that.

He's a socialist, facist, communist, joke, etc...because he's fighting for the middle class, fighting to get them affordable health care coverage, expand education and green energy, get the economy back on track, end the wars, etc. So yeah, he's a horrible guy for looking out for the best interest of the American people.

The American Dream was founded upon the Christian-Judeo principles and not in the efforts of man-made political policies.

Katrina is a perfect example of American Government in action.
Once a disaster strikes the end results are ignored and buried in
a heap of rubble that continues to surmount. Such as Katrina, so
will be the results in years to come through HR 3590 Healthcare Bill.

Once again, history will teach us it is not a respector of man nor a nation. Of our own free will in Votes tallied and lesson soon to follow -once freedom is lost it will never return.

Claudia, there's several possible answers to what "take back our country" means, but the one that stands out for me, after seeing these people for months traveling around the country embarassing us with their hateful bigoted signs and inability to answer a simple question like What Are You Protesting, is they're upset there's a black guy in the white house. What other conclusion is there? He's a Kenyan Muslim Communist Nazi Marxist Socialist anti-Christ and a Democrat to boot (all snark, by the way, but only on my part). I have no better answer than that. And he had the audacity to put his feet on the desk in his own office, which sent these people into a frenzy for a day or two.

I'd like to know who is funding this "grassroots" movement. Who bussed these people to Nevada and beyond and is putting them up and feeding them? Dick Armey, do you have an answer to that question? And what is Palin getting for each appearance, just because I'm nosy? I've never seen a VP candidate cash in like this.

Palin is a hypocrite of the highest order. The Bush administration took a budget surplus from the Clinton administration and then:
    1. Lowered taxes for the rich
    2. Engaged in 2 wars without providing funding
    3. Passed the largest entitlement program (Prescription Drug Program) without providing funding.
    4. Supported deregulation of the financial industry leading to the financial meltdown.

And she has the gaul (or stupidity) to accuse the Obama administration of spending too much? Give me a break. So far all his spending has been to stop the hemorraging created by the previous administration.

I love how Palin constantly bashes the "media." Is this not the same woman who is a correspondent on Faux News? And the same woman who just signed a deal for her own reality show? Oh that media is just horrible. Except when they are willing to pay Sarah of course. Then they are fine.

Its a logical and very obvious thing. Losers always cry over spilt milk. They want to take back their country(sic) run it like a cabal and start unnecessary wars to the peril of right-minded Americans and the world at large...

As a lifelong Republican we better get a handle on Palin,Limbaugh and the other wingnuts out there or we'll be driven further into the minority!!

This idea of running on the basis of repealing the health care law is insane and if followed will be as damaging as Palin is!!

We want our freedoms back meaning not having government rationed health care crammed down our throats, smaller government, politicians who work for the people who pay their salaries, government officials who listen to the people who pay their salaries, taking our country back means stopping all the useless wasteful spending. Taking our country back means not having to listen to whiny cry babies blaming past administrations for all the mistakes they are making. Taking back our country means keeping our country safe not destroying our relationship with our allies and cuddling with our enemies It means using all of our own national resources and not giving drilling rights to Russia or funding Brazil to drill in their country. AND most of all taking our country back means governing from the Constitution and not from every little whim that comes from any and every socialist or progressive that pops up on the scene.

I think the Tea party is current politically confused and manipulated, not unusually for newly formulated interest group. The Republican party is manipulating them and may drive the Tea party to extinction. Sarah Palin spoke to inspire the Tea party to do dangerous and violent things. She indicated she did not mean reload as in reloading a gun. But, What are they going to reload? Who are they fighting? Why are they fighting instead of utilizing the constitutional process? If you view the Republican’s logic for the Tea Party, it is for the party to fail. The Republicans understand that the Tea party will do more harm to them then the Democrats.

During the civil rights movement, if Black people or people who helped in the civil rights movement said less and did less, than the Tea Party and conservative in the Republican party, they would have been arrested. Members of the Black Panthers were arrested for several years and some member fled the country. Our history shows that the violence or abusive conduct by people for political ends is very unbecoming of Americans, and progress is not made. Peaceful acts of change in America can occurred, and are provided for in the Constitution of the United States, and progress can then be made. The constitutions is ours, we the people’s, contract with U.S. Government. Therefore, ‘we the people’ who developed the Constitution can act under the guidelines of the Constitution to make change.

I believe the majority of the members of the Tea Party are good people, but are currently politically confused and manipulated. I think the Tea Party, as an interest group, could form for a much better purpose. Interest groups play an important role in our American democracy to check on the government and the private sectors. “Tea Party, don’t let the Republican Party’s anger, control and influence you, and ultimately destroy you.”

At some point Palin is going to have to run for some elected office or even her most ardent followers will realize that she is only participating for her own financial gain. She can read volumes off of her palms, but until she is in a position to decide legislation, she is just another mouth piece. Showing up at an event or TV station and reciting bumper stickers is not a position of actual power. And making other failures feel good about themselves is not going to improve America in any way.

Fortunately she will never run for office again. She cannot handle criticism, being caught and corrected when she is wrong/lying, which is quite often, and most of all she has demonstrated that she has exceptionally poor decision making skills.
