Teenager takes Biden to task over cuss word

(CNN) - A 17-year-old student from South Pasadena High School in California took Vice President Joe Biden to task Friday for his use of an un-choice word this week whispered into the ear of President Barack Obama.

"This is a huge deal," McKay Hatch told reporters. "Many kids and adults all over the world look up to Vice President Biden as a role model. He needs to be a good role model for kids and use clean and appropriate language."

Hatch was referring to Biden's "This is a big f............ deal" sotto-voce remark Tuesday to his boss during the signing of the health care bill that was picked up by microphones and amplified around the world.

Hatch called on Biden to apologize, then packed a "No Cussing Club" T-shirt, wrist bands and penalty jar into a box and carried it to the local post office, cameras documenting his every move and utterance. His goal: "to remind him to use good language."

Hatch said he was not opposed to Biden exercising his First Amendment rights. "He has the freedom of speech to say what he wants, but he can't choose the consequences of what he says," the student said. "We need as a country to get back to the basic values and come together and treat people with civility."

Hatch acknowledged that even he is not perfect. "I'm just trying to ask him, you know, think about what you're saying next time. This is about self-control. He's doing a good job; I'm just asking him, you know, try a
little harder."

Hatch's Web site, nocussing.com, claims more than 35,000 members and lists his more than 100 appearances on local and national television programs.

It also sells his book "The No-Cussing Club" ($19.95 + $5.50 postage and handling) and his DVD "The Story of the No-Cussing Club ($29.95 +$6 postage and handling) for sale.

You people kill me. Attack the kid for calling out the VP for a supid, irresponsible remark. When will you Dems realize that Joe is a moron and a liability to your Messiah. Sure, everyone has let fly with an expletive from time to time. The problem here is the VP SHOULD KNOW BETTER! And yes, I will accept like-minded crticisim of GW and Dick. In the mean-time, the left can continue its march toward electoral obsolescence.

Biden needs to grow up (he's already pretty OLD now) and buy a Thesaurus – he could have made his point without profanity. You go kid!

That's right–hold everyone to the same, common-denominator low standard–don't hold anyone to any standards at all. If the comments here are a reflection of how the voting public thinks–if they are reflective of the quality of people in this country, then this country really is on the decline.

way to capitalize on a stupid remark kid. There is allot of money in it for you, nice job making a few dollars on this. Wish I had the foresight and lack of humility to do something like this and make a few bucks. Nice eye kid, whats the next scheme?

Oh, please. It's just a word. Kids hear from adults that they shouldn't cuss, so it's no wonder that kids suddenly turn into the profanity police as soon as they get the chance. See what happens when you tell the kids they shouldn't cuss? They do things like this. Shame on the adults for being hypocrites!

Its good to see that people in office are still human. What difference does it make that he dropped the "f-bomb" or if I do? We're both people and people are not perfect. He was just expressing his feelings about the bill and his words were not intended to be heard around the world. Besides, if this kid is in high school I'm sure he swears on a daily basis..

Where was this young man when the Red Vice President candidate was trotting Bristol Palin and her "baby daddy" around the country as stage props, while pregnant and unmarried AND ditching high school?

That was an example of "family values" the "christians" whole-heartedly supported.

At least one four letter word was does not involve an innocent new life.

Seriously kid, grow up. Welcome to the real world where people use profanity, even church leaders use it from time to time. I think it's time to "nut up or shut up".

Expecting the those in our Administration to be more careful and discreet with their imperfect language is one thing, how far this kid is taking it is another.

Kid you're too young to already have yourself up on a cross looking down at all the imperfect people.

Grow a thicker skin otherwise you'll grow up angry at our government flying planes into buildings.

Get a grip and take up a cause that is beneficial to mankind, not one that is judgmental of mankind

Listen kid...stop trying to get attention. Yeah ur absolutely right, you should always watch your language at work, esp on TV but face it....it happens. Not a big deal.

Is it any wonder there is no civility left in our country, when you just accept this as everyday language. It is sad, and I am sorry to say our children and grandchildren are the ones to pay. Yeah it is just a word
but there was a time when men and women watched their language out of respect for others. Now no one cares what the other guy or lady thinks, anything goes. Very Very Sad.

Good for him. I think as a society that we have gotten very liberal with our use of language, to the point where our children think using derogatory comments to address one another is appropriate.

As far as I'm concerned, if you have no problem with Joe Biden dropping the f-word at a formal ceremony, then you shouldn't be upset when anyone else uses inappropriate language in a political setting. Just keep telling yourself "it's just a word, grow up, get a life" when you hear a Republican do it or hear someone screaming the n-word at a protest.

Words only have the power we give them, right?

I see I sent a post at 1:42 and all of the other posts started at 3:24, is there a reason this would not be posted:

I wonder what you hating liberals will say about this. I believe this is the same kid that was behind the "no cuss week" in California. They actually were working on a resolutions in Cali (land of bankruptcy and wasting tax payers dollars) to provide a "No Cuss Week" that would be each I think March the first week.

Liberals=Do as I say not as I do!

Are thou afraid of the double standard. The fact that the resolution was offered up my a democrat in Cali???????????

Way to go, McKay! It looks to me like you're well on your way to being a good representative who's not afraid to show others what it takes to be a sound, clear thinking adult who has backbone and stands up for his convictions. (btw-I hope your book sales allow you to make a few bucks off of a foul-mouthed politician)
