Obama advisers expect Russian support for Iran sanctions

Washington (CNN) - Two of President Barack Obama's top advisers said Sunday the new nuclear arms treaty with Russia will help bring Russian support for sanctions against Iran over its nuclear ambitions.

David Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett, two senior White House advisers, said increased trust with Russia through the START treaty expected to be signed on April 8 would bring increased cooperation with Moscow in the dispute.

"I believe we'll have a strong regime of sanctions" against Iran, Axelrod said on the CNN program "State of the Union," adding that he believed Russia would support the sanctions.

Jarrett, on the ABC program "This Week," said the new START treaty helps pave the way for cooperative steps against Iran.

Russia & obama are all kissy face now that dictator obama gave Russia drilling rights in the Gulf of Mexico! Why is it that we didn't drill there? Does obama have an excuse for that? Maybe drill bits were too expensive – cheaper to buy oil from Russia? What pitiful excuse do you have for that?

Obama knelt before the Kremlin, gave them what they wanted, and now hopes that relations will improve.

Obama is the 21st Century Neville Chamberlain.

  4. Iran and N. Korea have no fear.....

of Obama. They see him as an extremely weak president. And so they
both will be nuclear powers and we will pay the price for having a community organizer as Commander in Chief.

@phoenix86 – Doesn't the headline and story states that Russia will support us with sanctions against Iran???

@Rachel – "...Two of President Barack Obama's top advisers said Sunday..." I am sure there are more advisors but these are the TOP!! Who was Bushes TOP ADVISORS that spoke for him???

Those who want to HATE are not Presidents. If Russia does not go along with us in the sanctions against Iran – then Hate on Russia – not the President!! The American people need to know that the world is watching and this hateful bickering back and forth does not help us as a nation.

What is wrong with saying..."We, as American people, are optimistic that this deal would go through with Russia and Iran would be put into its place when sanctions are brought against them!!" Go against the ENEMY and not the deliverer!! No, that's too easy and CIVIL!!

I know it is difficult to give credit to a "African American President" who has made us safer. Russia and the US are the leaders in Nuclear Weapons. A treaty to eliminate them is a good thing. We need to work together with the countries of the world.

President Obama has energy and is working extremely hard for all Americans. Unfortunatley, some people in this great country are racists and it does not matter what he accomplishes. The GOP from day one have said they want him to fail. Some of you need to stop listening to Limbaugh, Coulter, Hanity and Fox News. Folks, they do not tell the truth and they spew hate and fear.

We need to come together as intellectual country and support our leaders. When we have differences discuss them in an intelligent manner, debate and come up with common ground for the good of all Americans.

" Two of Obummie's top advisors said Sunday the new nuclear arms treaty with Russia will help bring Russian support against Iran over its nuclear ambitions." Translation.........We just bent over and got it from Russia again. These guys and Obummie are so stupid it makes me sick. What did we get when we pulled our missiles out of their defensive position earlier this year. Answer...NOTHING!!! We won't get get anything from this either other than being less prepared to defend ourselves. This isn't the amateur hour. I pray we don't get the 3am phone call with Obummie and his band of fools in office.

Before Russian RPGs were being used to kill Americans in Iraq – American missiles were being provided to the Taliban to kill Russians in Afghanistan.
Pretty soon we will be purchasing oil more from Russia/China than the Mideast. Best make friends now, and remember we're all in this to prosper peacefully.

While we are at it, I think we should also garner support for sanctions against Israel.

When it comes to the Russian government our Chicago gang in the WH, found their matching gang at the other side, so we will not know what is real and what is not, and the other gang can still out-gang you!

It looks like the treaty is going to be signed soon in Prague.
Although Obama's decision to install medium range rocket interceptors in Romania prompted Medvedev to declare that START II will suffer consequences, it appears now that President Obama kneeled the russian bear.
Good point for Obama, I think....

Obama caved to all the Russian demands on the arms reduction and in return gets some worthless Russian agreement on watered down sanction that are 5 to 10 years to late to do anything! Everything is just a political PR game to this White House!!!

Russia continues to sell to Iran everything they want for their atomic weapons program. We can count on Russia to enforce an embargo to stop Iran? Follow the money and you can find where the delays and political dialogue are delaying tactics to make more money. We have no policy except appeasement, and hoping we get something after we give up our leverage against Russia. We have children handling the future of our country.

What can you expect from a political hack? Russia will continue selling material to Iran and laugh at Obama for being a total patsy. I thought we learned our lesson with Carter that appeasement doesn't work. Any real leader understands that you can only negotiate from a position of strenght, but then Obama isn't a leader he's just a Chicago hack.
