(CNN) - U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will head to Canada on Monday to meet with other G8 leaders, to prepare for the Group of Eight summit in Canada in June, officials said.
In addition to meeting with foreign ministers in Ottawa, Clinton will visit with U.S. Embassy staff there, according to the State Department.
She also is expected to hold bilateral talks with Katsuya Okada, the Japanese foreign minister.
U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will accompany Clinton, who also is to meet with the foreign ministers of the Arctic coastal states.
Those countries - which also include Canada, Denmark/Greenland, Norway and Russia - deal with environmental and economic issues related to the Arctic.
The G8 - formed by Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States - is an informal group that meets annually to discuss major world issues. The European Union also attends the summits and is represented by the president of the European Commission and the leader of the member state holding the presidency of the EU.

Hilllary was born for this job.
What an improvement Clinton is! Compared to Condoleeza Rice, Clinton is accomplishing a great deal in foreign affairs. Of course, she has the confidence of the president. Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld undercut Rice's efforts and rendered her completely ineffective.
However, Clinton seems to be industriously cleaning up the many messes made by the Bush Administration.
Wonder what sort of human rights violations she'll accuse Canada of. I'm surprised she is even going there, they don't pose any military threat, right?
So glad she ain't the pres, uhmm hmm.
Sec Clinton has shown intelligence, empathy, toughness, broadmindedness-all the while being a tireless (literally-she is _always_ on the go), positive representative of American values and of the good we can help this world achieve.
Kudos to her and her team!
Good! hard at work as usual.
Another worthless attempt at relevancy. Obama is giving the store away so fast that these summits are becoming worthless.
Will she screw up relations with Canada like she has with Israel?
No offense to any nation but this G8 is a total waste. I don't think they bring any change on the promise they make or do anything after the debate is over
I like Joe Biden, but I wonder if Obama can run with Hillary in 2012?
What an unbeatable ticket that would be, and they complement each other so well.
