Pelosi: GOP used fear to turn elderly against health care bill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday that Republicans used a ‘campaign of fear’ to get senior citizens to oppose health care reform.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday that Republicans used a ‘campaign of fear’ to get senior citizens to oppose health care reform.

(CNN) – Republicans used a "campaign of fear" based on false information to get senior citizens to oppose health care reform, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday.

In response to questions at a news conference in her home district in San Francisco, California, Pelosi accused Republicans of spreading misinformation against Democratic health care legislation backed by President Barack Obama, who made the issue his top domestic priority.

"There was a campaign of fear that was launched (at senior citizens) as soon as the president was elected," Pelosi said.

The reform plan includes cutting the costs of Medicare, the government-run health plan for seniors, by about $500 billion.

During months of debate on the health care bill signed into law last week by Obama, Republicans repeatedly said it was impossible to cut Medicare costs by such a large amount without reducing benefits.

Obama and Democrats say the Medicare cuts involve eliminating wasteful spending and fraud.

On Monday, Pelosi called the Medicare cost reductions "essential" to health care reform, and said Republican claims the bill would cut benefits for the elderly are "truly false."

Polls show the American public remains sharply divided over the health care issue. Pelosi said she believes polls in coming months will show more support for the bill as the public learns more about it.

When the smoke clears and the fear-based Repugnican scare tactics are finally revealed about the health care bill, Americans will know that the extremists must be voted out of congress. Adios Agent Orange and Turtleman.

How stupid can pelosi be? The demorats are cutting 500 billion from Medicate and they say Republicans are spreading fear. This is the demorats and nobamas bill and they are the ones causing fear among the elderly. This is like watering weeds then complaining they are growing in the flower bed.

The biggest fear in my life is Government controlled anything. If Nancy Pelosi had to be on the same insurance plan as she has proposed, there wouldn't be any plan. I hate to wish bad on anyone, but I wished that women would take a flying leap to hell along with the P and VP. Anytime the government gets involved with anything, it always goes too far. This insurance is illegal because it forces the people of the USA into a bad bad plan. The cost to the elderly is not acceptable. The increase cost to all USA is not acceptable. Obama and Pelosi and the rest who voted for this bad insurance, should be hung by their toenails.

GOP and the likes of Palin, Rush, Hannity and beck use fear to trick and lie to the American People about everything that our POTUS does. They pray on the gullible and the ones who hate, and the nuts and the easily led. Pathetic.

I find it very unamerican to mislead and tell blatant lies to the people like the GOP has done. They should be ashamed of themselves and be held accountable for their actions.

    Prime Example: Death Panels

I want Minority Leader Bonehead and the rest of those scumbags to stand in front of the camera and tell the people the truth!

    MISSING THE POINT:

I grew up with, lived, and had two companies, with a family member that has a server personality disorder. Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD), which is a very serious illness, so with my over 50 years of experience, including every single day of my life, dealing with NPD, it has become very clear to me the our President, Barack Obama, the commander and chief is inflicted with NPD.

If true, as I believe, these many issues like those mentioned above will only progressively increase while becoming more pronounced.

Knowing how NPD totally destroyed my family, I hope I'm wrong. But each and every day, President Obama validate these very nasty symptoms.

It is simply not possible to produce something more divisive and partisian than this bill. The Democrats now own it. Whatever the results, and those with any basic economic understanding are not expecting good things, the Democrats own it. I am sad for the burden and loss of opportunity our children will experience in exchange for unsustainable empty promises from politicians.

Is that right? Kinda like the liberals like her calling the TEA Party members names, defaming and demeaning their legitimate concerns. Kinda like the Obozo administration and its evil spawn are trying to intimidate it now. Kinda like those folks (probably ACORN/SEIU who are throwing eggs at the TEA Party buses in Nevada. This hypocrite needs to be sent back to the wine fields. LIberals are evil, corrupt, slimy liars.

In general, Republicans have to run campaigns of creating fear and anger. It would be difficult to garner the support of so many mainstream followers if they highlighted some of their real goals, such as enabling the rich to get richer - at the expense of the rest of us.

In her closing statements, she stated that "200 Republican Amendments were added to the Health Care Bill..." saying escentially that the Republicans were included. Trouble is, the Republican used those amendments as reasons why people should be against this bill. For example, Viagra for Pedofiles, etc. I would like to see those Amendments. I'll bet it goes a whole lot deeper than we'd like to admit.

Pelosi is right! The Republicans admitted that they would use health care against the president... for what.. to support and defend the "Medicare/Entitlement" program.. Yeah right!!! (didn't the Republicans try and dismantle this along with social security?)... or was it more for scoring political points in November??!! HMMMM... this isn't to hard to figure out! Why all of a sudden a change of heart for the Repubs.. to seem as they are protecting something when then philosophically don't agree with these programs to begin with! The answer: VOTES

The Republicans agreed to do what they do best.. scare the crap out of people by telling them that President Obama is out to kill them one by one!!! He is coming around the corner with his "Death Panel" ready to strike!!

Did anybody ready the story about the boy who cried "wolf" too many times?? Until the Republicans start acting like adults people won't take them seriously!

Republicans scream about getting rid of waste until the Democrats actually DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT..... then, of course, it's BAD.

And so they did, Nancy. So they did.

Unfortunately for the GOPers, the mid-term election is months away. By that time, most seniors will have received their drug subsidies, Medicare expenses will not have increased, and Social Security checks will not have stopped. All will be well in the world for our Senior Citizens.

Do, though, keep trying to scare our seniors, CNN.

It is sad and frightening what the republican party is doing to our country and the American people.
I have never before witnessed a political party that is so irresponsile,
misguided, power hungry, spewing such lies, distortions, fear mongering , totally sacrificing our country and us.
They are well on their way to becoming our country's most dangerous domestic terrorists. Out to destroy everything.

And what exactly was that campaign of fear that was false, Nancy? The Seniors are not stupid and are very able to read exactly what you and the Socialist Progressive party voted in to law, disguised as healthcare reform. No, we won't forget in 6 months, or 6 years for that matter.

We seniors are smart enough to know Good or Bad. We are also smart enough to see Pelosi's lies. The part of money for your Health Reform is from the elderly benifits cut.
