Washington (CNN) - Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-North Carolina, has a message for fellow conservatives on National Census Day: "I'm worried about this year's census."
In a post Thursday on the conservative Web site RedState, McHenry expressed concerns about "blatant misinformation" about the census "coming from otherwise well-meaning conservatives." Some on the right have claimed that the census is unconstitutional, he wrote. Others fear that its results will be politicized by the Obama administration.
"They are trying to do the right thing," McHenry wrote, "but instead they are helping big government liberals by discouraging fellow conservatives from filling out their census forms."
McHenry warned that low participation among conservatives could result in Democrats having a big advantage in the next round of congressional re-districting.
"Few things make will make Nancy Pelosi happier than large numbers of conservatives failing to respond to the census," he wrote. "If we do not respond, we will not be counted and if we are not counted, then we effectively will not exist."
McHenry was one of three GOP congressmen who rebuked Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minnesota, last year when she urged conservatives to avoid filling out their entire census form. She said at the time that it would be unconstitutional to provide any information other than basic family details.
In his RedState post, McHenry told conservatives to avoid leaving any questions blank.
"No one has advocated a direct boycott of the census but there have been calls to only partially fill out census forms – even though that would be a direct violation of federal law," he wrote. "Those calls are the problem."
Sorry, but the supporters of the party of no will get exactly what they deserve if they fail to complete their census – and then they'll find a way to blame the dems for it.
But, but.... It's a big government conspiracy to take over our lives and destroy America.
"but instead they are helping big government liberals by discouraging fellow conservatives from filling out their census forms."
Mr. Henry it was Michelle Bachmann, a Republican, and many others who've been discouraging conservatives not to fill out the census. You remember right? She, Mr. Pete King, Fox News, etc. were just frothing at the mouth talking about, "Obama will know your address to come take your guns away, big brother gubmint is looking at you, and other assorted fearmongering nonsense."
On top of that Mr. Henry, the RNC themselves were called out for their attempts to send out phony census mailers that fearmongered the real the thing. So you need to look to your friends if you want to lay blame.
What's wrong with GOPer? and what federal law Democratic violate? I don't care Republican or Democratic we are eat same food and live in same country also, the Politic are the same why the GOPer don't want to count them.
The Census is ordered by the Constitution, isn't it? How can it be unconstitutional? I filled out my form and I don't see what makes people so scared. Can we just count people without knowing how old they are or what's the racial makeup of the nation? That's all there is to the Census. I listen to these people telling others not to fill out census forms all I hear is a load of nonsense with zero logic. I heard a popular talk radio host railing agains public education today. There is a dumbing down process going on and their audience is getting obese on misinformation.
Don't listen to him ...do what Ann Coulter says and destroy the form.
